Thorncliffe Grange Nursing Home

from Lisa M (Daughter of Resident) published on 6 February 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Thorncliffe Grange Nursing Home provided exceptional care for my dad during his 8-month stay. From our very first visit, my mum and I knew we had found the right place - the warm family atmosphere was immediately apparent.
What sets Thorncliffe Grange apart is their long-serving, dedicated staff across
all departments. The continuity of care proved valuable as my dad had lost his sight and the familiar voices of his carers provided him comfort and reassurance. Every single person treated him with extraordinary dignity & respect.
The staff didn't just provide care; they became our friends, sharing laughs and creating a genuine family atmosphere. Their approach to care was consistently outstanding and they went above and beyond to ensure my dad's comfort and well-being.
If you're seeking exceptional care for your loved one in a warm, professional, and dignified environment, Thorncliffe Grange should be at the top of your list. The level of attention and genuine care they provide is truly remarkable.

Thorncliffe Grange Nursing Home

from G G (Brother of Resident) published on 14 August 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

When my brother had to leave hospital for nursing care, I had two recommendations about Thorncliffe Grange, one from a nurse whose Grandmother was looked after there before her passing and another from a care worker who had placed many people in there over many years. Both said although the home itself
looked 'tired' the care provided by the staff was second to none. I visited the home on spec' and from the moment I was welcomed through the door I felt the warmth of feeling from all the staff. Just listening to the conversations between the staff and the residents was so comforting, they were singing together, laughing and joking. After my brother moved in, I found this to be exactly the same across all staff, not just the management but the cleaners, the maintenance staff, the doctors, the nurses and of course the hands-on carers. I cannot speak highly enough of all the staff, they were brilliant. If care is what you want either nursing or residential, this home is the best!

Reply from Sarah Hitchcock, Manager at Thorncliffe Grange Nursing Home

Thank you so much G for your lovely review, we know how precious your brother was/is to you and your family - you all did him proud with your dedication and advocating on his behalf. It was our pleasure to support you all caring for him - a very gentile man. I try my best to employ caring, family-orientated, fun-loving staff to promote a sense of belonging for our residents and families. Work is being done in the home but it is like Fort Bridge lol. Take care of yourself and your lovely family.

My dad came here for palliative care, have to say the team are amazing. The support given during a terrible time for us as a family was just great. My dad loved being here and was cared for so much, shout out to two staff member in particular for their compassion and expertise. We are forever grateful.

Reply from Sarah Hitchcock, Manager at Thorncliffe Grange Nursing Home

Thank you so very much for choosing us for your lovely dad, a true gentleman in every sense! From the minute he arrived, he showed us his sense of humour and was always so very gracious about everything. I am just so glad he got to live near you in his final weeks to spend his time with you his loving son. Take care of yourself.

I visited a friend today and I must say I was very impressed, the staff appear friendly and caring and I particularly liked how they interact with residents, I also met senior carers and they were professional and caring. My friend even said to me that he couldn't wish to be in a better place. Very
warm and welcoming and my first impression is I am extremely impressed.

Mum was a resident in Thorncliffe for about 18 months, it is always a difficult decision placing a loved one in care. We can not thank the staff enough for not only caring for Mum but also for us as a family and for their endless support, particularly in her last few days of life.
Thorncliffe may not
be the most aesthetically pleasing but the care and compassion are unbeatable they genuinely care and go above and beyond.

Reply from Sarah Hitchcock, Manager at Thorncliffe Grange Nursing Home

Thank you so very much for your lovely review and I do hope you and the rest of the family are coping after your tireless visits and love for your mum. Your mum was an absolute pleasure to care for, our passion is very much for the care of our residents and actually since Mum was here the home has had all new flooring in all the corridors and today having a new kitchen whoop whoop! You keep up your good work too!

I have no worries leaving my mother at Thorncliffe Grange, the management are really caring on the ball and it shows how the staff interact with the residents. My mother arrived the 2nd of February and she has settled in lovely. Thorncliffe was recommended to us by a social worker and it was the best
thing we did for Mum. It was our mum's 90th birthday last week and I have to say they did a fantastic job. They put a buffet on and a beautiful cake with 90th candles. They made it really special for Mum and for us.

Reply from Sarah Hitchcock, Manager at Thorncliffe Grange Nursing Home

Ahh thank you very much for your lovely words and thanks for looking after your lovely Mum and I will certainly pass on to the staff member who took care of the food that day, we are very fortunate to have such lovely family members of our lovely residents and it is very much appreciated that you have taken the time to write a review. Thank you again, Manager and all the team at the home.

My mum was only at the home for just over 4 months but I have to say that we couldn't have hoped for more care, compassion or love at a time when Mum was very poorly and deteriorating.
The staff at Thorncliffe are all amazing people, the residents were the focus of everything they did and their interaction
with my family when visiting was more than we could ask for with staff always available to answer questions on health and more practical matters.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Thorncliffe Grange, it really is a home for the residents.

Reply from Sarah Hitchcock, Manager at Thorncliffe Grange Nursing Home

Thank you so very much for your lovely review it really does mean an awful lot to my team to hear and read comments like yours, as you know from being here the staff do work really hard in circumstances a lot of people could not cope with and it makes me very proud of the whole of the staff. Your Mum was a lovely lady and a pleasure to care for and you and your family were always so gracious and respectful to us all and this is priceless to us!

The experience we have had at the nursing home is amazing. The care for my uncle was great, the nurses and managers were always lovely when we visited, this home doesn't just look after the patients they take care of the family as well. There was someone always around when you needed them. My uncle
was very comfortable here and very safe. They always called if he was ill or seeing the GP they kept us up to date all the time. Would recommend this nursing home to families, it is amazing.

Reply from SARAH HITCHCOCK, MANAGER at Thorncliffe Grange Nursing Home

Thank you so much for taking the time to review the home as it means such a lot to us all as staff. Your uncle was an absolute pleasure - such a gentleman! As were the rest of the family, clearly very precious to you all.
I will pass your very kind comments on to all the staff - thank you!

I couldn't have wished for my Mum to be better looked after during the last six months of her life. All the staff at Thorncliffe Grange are absolutely amazing, she was so well taken care of and they also made us feel so welcome when we went to visit. She always seemed so happy to be living there and
would refer to the carers as her 'little friends'. Thank you to everyone for all your hard work and support.

Reply from SARAH HITCHCOCK, MANAGER at Thorncliffe Grange Nursing Home

The 'little friends' brought a lump to my throat-how diddy Mum was. Your Mum was an absolute pleasure to have with us, and you both were always so lovely and understanding during visits. You must bring in the wedding pictures of your beautiful daughter when the big day has been. Your Mum was clearly loved so very dearly by you all and as you know we always loved the weekly calls from New Zealand to speak to 'granny'-so cute! Thank you for taking the time to review us, it does provide future families with some reassurance.

My mum first went to the home for assessment but has stayed on as a resident, she has vascular dementia and although quite a character can be very challenging, I would like to thank the staff who are all lovely and managed to get her to interact with others as she has not for years.
Although she hates
being in a home she regularly says the staff are lovely and she is not known for giving out compliments for no reason.

Reply from Kerry Sumner, Manager at Abbotsford Care Home

Thank you, Michael.

Thorncliffe Grange Nursing Home

from Martin F (Husband of Resident) published on 3 January 2024

I was first put in touch with this place via our adult social services rep, the manager of the care home came to the house to meet my wife and to gain a better understanding of her needs. I must say she was absolutely outstanding and within minutes of meeting her and seeing how she interacted with my
wife put me at ease, it was only then I believed that I was making the right decision. We then were given a day to attend with both myself and my wife to meet and greet the staff, they were all adorable and so genuine and heartwarming. Then I knew it was the right decision for both my wife's happiness and my well-being. Within a few days my wife was laughing and engaging with the staff. I honestly want to say that we both feel like part of the Thorncliffe Grange family, they are true heroes in our journey and have helped me and will continue to support us for the remainder of our journey, much love to them all.

Reply from SARAH HITCHCOCK, MANAGER at Thorncliffe Grange Nursing Home

Aww thank you so much for your very kind words which I will of course be sharing with the staff. You have done such an amazing job of looking after your wife solely at home it has then made the transition to us much easier knowing how much she is loved and cherished. We all know what a difficult predicament you were both in but we just fell in love instantly with your lovely wife and she has such a vibrant and fun personality she makes us laugh! Thank you again.

Since admittance over twelve months ago, we have seen constant improvement and the introduction of activities. The care itself is excellent - care and love are shown and dignity is maintained. Residents are regularly given ‘a cuppa and a biscuit’, all their needs are met. We feel our family member is
in a safe and caring place.

Reply from Wendy Estlick, Manager at Firbank House Residential Care Home

Many thanks for the wonderful comments - I will ensure that the staff are informed and as always, we continue to strive to be better, it is important that we work with families and friends to ensure the best and most personal care is given to each resident.

My mother stayed at Abbotsford Care Home for a few months at a difficult time in her life. She really appreciated the care, patience and good humour of the manager and the carer team, as did I and the rest of the family. It was a relief to know that she was being looked after by such an attentive team,
who were always on hand, whether it was with welcome cups of tea or providing more hands-on, supportive care. Thank you for all you've done.

I recently visited a friend at Abbotsford Care Home. He was a good friend we had lost touch with until a staff member informed me that he was at Abbotsford and l believe it’s his second period of respite there as he is so well cared for and looked after there. He appears to be thriving under their care.
I only met two staff members who were both lovely and l could tell what lovely caring natures they had! I’m glad my friend is doing so well thanks to Abbotsford - it seems a lovely home which put residents first. Clean and comfortable and clearly well managed - well done!

from S F (Niece of Resident) published on 18 May 2023

From the exterior, Cleggsworth House doesn't do itself justice. It looks tired and in need of decoration. However, the care of the residents is what is important, and from our experience, the care our Auntie and sister received was sincere and genuine. There appears to be a true desire to make the residents
feel that Cleggsworth House is their home and that each resident is valued as an individual.
The staff work tirelessly to provide the care with thought and respect for the adults who live there.
Thank you from a sister and two nieces of a recent, former resident.

Mum went to Abbotsford Care Home in December 2022 for 7 wks for respite after being in hospital. Mum is now back home. Can't thank and praise the staff enough for the care they gave my mum. The manager was lovely and always very helpful, if she wasn't available a staff member who worked in the office
was always at hand to offer any help. The care staff were lovely. I got to know the 3 senior care staff (who worked the day shifts) they were very efficient, knew their job, polite, always happy and very caring and nothing was too much trouble for them, the care staff were lovely too especially the daughter of one of the senior carers (sorry can't remember her name.) Always happy and had a contagious laugh. I met 2 of the cooks who were lovely and got to know mum. The care home was clean and mum's room was spotless, warm and cosy. I take my hat off to you all for doing a hard job look so effortless. I can't thank you all enough. Lots of love to you all.

I cannot thank the staff at Abbotsford Care Home enough for the care provided to my mother. There is no harder job than looking after elderly people who are in poor physical and mental shape, and the staff have gone above and beyond what I would have expected. My mum is now in a much better shape than
before she went in, and is now clean, appropriately dressed and is eating well - she always compliments the chef when I visit. I know a care home is not what my mum had originally intended for herself, but her dementia and other problems worsened to the point that she needed to be kept safe and happy. The staff are the key part to making the care home work as well as it does. They are exceptionally kind, cheerful and passionate about what they do. Thank you so much Abbotsford. I would wholeheartedly recommend this home to anyone.

My father went to Abbotsford Care Home in December for a short stay respite from the hospital. I was worried about the move as he wasn't himself whilst in hospital and had deteriorated mentally. Upon arrival at the home, we found the care staff to be very welcoming and I instantly felt relief, I knew
my father would be looked after. I was able to visit any time and was always made to feel welcome. Abbotsford Care Home is a lovely home and I would definitely recommend.
