I am writing to raise serious concerns regarding the care and treatment of my mother-in-law, [Her Full Name], who was admitted to Callands Care Home in late May 2025 following a hospital stay due to a broken right leg sustained in a fall. She was placed at Callands for assessment
Upon visiting regularly with my wife, we observed a series of unacceptable practices and apparent neglect that we feel compelled to report:
Inadequate Supervision & Unsafe Room Placement
Despite her known fall risk, she was placed in a far room (referred to us as "the furthest room") where there was little to no staff presence. As a result, she suffered multiple falls while under the care home's supervision. The repeated bruising on her body was visible and disturbing, yet we found no evidence that these incidents were being recorded or responded to appropriately.
CQC should pay a visit ASAP
I am sorry to read your review of your experience of our home. We have fully investigated your concerns. Every incident in our care home is thoroughly investigated and logged on our incident management system and we constantly review staffing rotas to ensure that there are adequate staff members to care for our residents. With all clients who have a falls history we use sensor technology to detect movement so that we can try and prevent them. We also keep in constant contact with Next of Kin whenever an incident occurs. We would like to reassure that we have taken your complaint extremely seriously and always believe that we can learn from all feedback and incidents.

At times, our team may be attending to residents or supporting during mealtimes, which can occasionally cause a short wait at the door. We understand this can be frustrating, and we're looking at ways to improve our response times. Your feedback is appreciated and has been shared with the team.

Thank you for your review, we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. We greatly appreciate your kind comments about our team and management who dealt with your concerns in a timely manner. Staffing is continually monitored via our dependency tool, and we can make any changes as and when required. Since receipt of your review, we have revisited our staffing levels and found them to be appropriate to meet the individual needs of the residents currently residing in the home. We have requested our property team look into adding a canopy at the front door to protect visitors whilst they wait to gain access to the home.
