Abbeycroft Residential Care Home

from Dennis M (Brother-in-law of Resident) published on 14 January 2025

I found the care home to be well-organised and professional with excellent safeguarding facilities. There is a caring environment and an emphasis on the encouragement of the residents to take part in enjoyable activities. All in all a secure, safe and caring home. One minor criticism is that very little
fruit is offered in the diet.

The whole of the time my mum was at Abbeycroft she was treated with care and compassion by everyone that worked there. The staff were always friendly and accommodating to both me and my dad when we visited, whenever we visited and it was obvious that the residents were cared for and looked after to
the best of everyone's ability.
A group of lovely people doing a tough job in difficult times for little financial reward, they have my gratitude and deep respect.

My sister has settled in very well at Abbeycroft. The staff have taken the time to untangle her matted hair, and encourage her to have showers/baths where initially she was reluctant.
My sister particularly likes the food and having a choice of meals. She may even be putting on weight!

Abbeycroft Residential Care Home

from J G (Relative of Resident) published on 15 May 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My relative has been living at Abbeycroft for more than a year now. She has settled in well and has gained weight and increased in strength thanks to her attentive care. She is safe, comfortable, calmer and less anxious about day to day happenings since moving in.
The care home staff manage all her
medical needs and accompany her on any hospital visits as this is impractical for us. We visit her at least weekly and every time we visit her the whole care home is fresh, clean and well managed. All the staff are professional, approachable and treat my relative respectfully in a dignified, kind and friendly manner. Other residents we see appear relaxed and happy too.
We are kept fully informed regarding our relative's care needs, health and welfare and the manager is very happy to answer fully any enquiries we may have.
We do not hesitate to recommend Abbeycroft.

I have been extremely impressed with Abbeycroft since my mum has been a resident for several months.
The facility is well-run and well-staffed. The place is nice and warm and very clean. I feel that my mum is being well looked after and is safe.
Special shout out to one member of staff in particular
who seems ever-present and gives me an update whenever I visit.
Very pleased.

My husband is looked after at The Laurels. The staff are lovely with him. I get feedback on how he is. The home is lovely and clean. My husband seems happy here. He loves his music and the staff see he has music on. He had been in two homes previously, I brought him out of these as I didn't feel he
was looked after. I'm so glad I found The Laurels.

My family and I couldn't be happier with the care my dad received at Abbeycroft. Anything we asked was never too much trouble. The staff were caring, compassionate and attentive. Thanks to the care he had, my dad was a much happier person throughout his time there. We couldn't recommend Abbeycroft enough.

My mother stayed at Abbeycroft for a period of rehabilitation following hospital admittance. During this time the manager and her staff of professional carers treated my mother with exactly the care and support that was needed for my mother at this delicate time.
By the end of her stay, they had nursed
her back to the level of health she had before her period of illness.
I cannot overstate how dedicated and respectfully professional the team at Abbeycroft are and wholeheartedly recommend their services to anyone who would benefit from them.
Thank you Abbeycroft for the care and dedicated support not only for my mother but for all you do for the residents in your care.

My sister was discharged from the hospital to Abbeycordt for an initial 28-day period for end-of-life care. She wasn't mobile and needed a hoist to be moved. I found all the staff to be very kind, caring and compassionate to both my sister and myself, keeping me updated on a regular basis and preparing
me for the end, when it came in December. Although the home is not by any way luxurious, the quality of care was exceptional, which really is all that matters for end-of-life care.

My mum has been a resident here since September 2020 and has always been cared for very well by the manager and her wonderful care team. My mum is very happy with how she is cared for here and she says herself the food too is always nice. The home is always clean and welcoming when we visit. My mum
doesn’t take part in activities due to her condition but these are always offered to her. If she did want to participate then staff would ensure that she was included hence why I am unable to comment personally on this.

Review of

New Victoria Nursing & Residential Care Home

from A C (Daughter of Resident) published on 28 April 2023

Mum has been in The New Victoria for just over three years now. She has always been well-fed (she loves the food). The staff are always cheerful and happy and mum loves this. Any issues she has had have been brought to the attention of the staff by myself and family members and acted upon to make the
situation better.
Mum has deteriorated over time now and we are still happy with the care she receives. All the staff work so hard even though they are short-staffed. Sadly mums appetite has reduced now and she can't communicate well anymore but we know she's still happy there and that's what matters.
A suggestion for improvement is for all staff to wear name badges.

Avoid this place at all costs. My mum has been here just over a year. It's the most petty, pathetic place I have ever known from the bottom two to the very top!
The food is a disgrace most days, soup sandwiches or chips. My mum lost that much weight it's disgusting. I take food in for her but now they
have started to throw it away (Indian takeaway) taken the night before for Mother's Day, in a sealed container with her name, room number on for her tea. Day after, thrown away. When questioned, the manager said no date on it, in the bin! The night staff knew, my mum knew, she doesn't have Dementia. They only had to ask her but no, thrown away and brand new unopened ice cream dessert thrown away. Why, why would anyone do something so nasty? disgusting!
The Management especially the manager complete waste of time.
Thinking of moving mum after this, it's just so nasty. Horrible people but she is now 91 sound of mind but frail body, not strong enough. Shame on them.

Reply from Janet Moutrey, Manager at New Victoria Nursing & Residential Care Home

As we have previously stated we have to abide by food hygiene regulations. We were informed that the food had already been reheated through in our microwave the night before. Therefore it could not be reheated again for consumption by one of our residents. We appreciate that everyone has their likes and dislikes when it comes to food. Which is why all of our residents are offered alternatives to the main menu, each day. When we are informed of any meal requests we do our best to ensure it is provided through our service providers.
