I visit my friend on a fortnightly basis, all the staff from the managers to the care team at millbeck care home amaze me they are so friendly, helpful and very compassionate nothing is ever too much trouble, my friend has lived at millbeck for a number years now due to a deteriorating health condition,
it is such a comfort to myself to see my friend happy and healthy but more importantly very well cared for from the staff, my friend states the meals are wonderful with plenty of choices and very tasty I have to agree as I myself have stayed for meals by pre booking before visiting my friend the day before, my friends room is comfortably decorated with a spacious room and an excellent view of the garden and maintained to the highest of cleanliness, activities are very well planned and displayed throughout the care home with the staff doing some excellent fates throughout the year, I would highly recommend millbeck to my friends and family if they ever required a care home facility.

Kirkley Lodge

from A A (Next of Kin) published on 18 March 2025

First impressions were actually okay but there's a clique amongst staff here and if a resident is of the more challenging nature, then Staff who are part of the clique are really quite antagonistic and argumentative towards the resident. Staff not in the clique are really quite kind, caring, patient
and understanding. My relative didn't like only being allowed one bath or shower a week and felt intimidated by Staff on more than one occasion. There is a strong smell of urine at this home which I think could be eliminated with the upgrade of hard flooring and protective furnishing.

Reply from Anna Bracey, Home Manager at Kirkley Lodge

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. All feedback here at Kirkley Lodge is hugely important to us and providing the best care for our residents is our priority. Feedback regarding our staff has always been very positive and we have an all team approach to ensure the wellbeing of our residents and to support their loved ones as appropriate. All our residents are offered a minimum of two baths/showers per week unless requested otherwise by the resident. Our housekeeping team have robust rotas in place to ensure Kirkley Lodge is regularly cleaned. We take this feedback very seriously and would be keen to discuss this further to ensure we can understand and implement actions accordingly. My door is always open or please do call me anytime. Thank you again for your feedback.

My Auntie became a resident in Kirkley Lodge following an admission to hospital and prior to that had been living alone, where she was not coping and had become quite depressed.
But since being in Kirkley Lodge, she is thriving on the care and attention she receives. She has a great relationship with
the carers and both her and I have had nothing but praise for all the staff.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Kirkley Lodge to anyone looking for a care home.

I have a very good friend living in Millbeck and I have not seen her looking so happy & healthy in many years. Staff at Millbeck treat her with dignity & respect at all times. The home always smells lovely & fresh at all times, the activities are outstanding & staff go above & beyond during fetes at
Christmas & in the summer, always involving residents. From management to house keepers, they are a fantastic team.

Skelton Court

from D S (Son of Resident) published on 4 March 2025

Care home appearance is very nice. Internal decor bright and clean. Care staff are very caring and appeared to enjoy their work but at times a bit stressed due to times when there does not seem to be enough staff to care for all residents, especially on the dementia level. Food at times does not look
too appetising, especially to someone who likes (no frills food) i.e. basic egg and chips, meat and veg. Couple of items, glasses/wallet have gone missing and not recovered. Find this hard to believe as all residents on level 1 don't go anywhere so would have expected them to have been located somewhere on level 1. Cost is excessive for food and accommodation but care from staff good and caring.

Reply from Antony Griffiths, Manager at Skelton Court

Thank you for taking the time to review Skelton Court. We are pleased you rated our care/ support as excellent. The safety and wellbeing of our residents is always our priority, where we use a dependency tool to calculate the required number of colleagues on each shift to provide the best support. Thank you for taking the time to discuss food with us, where our menus are cooked freshly on site to suit our residents' dietary needs and preferences. I apologise that items have been misplaced and I'm happy to discuss this and any other feedback at a mutually convenient time, where my door is always open.

My dad has been a resident in the care home for nearly a year. He has settled in well and both myself and my sister are very happy with the care he has received. We are always informed by staff if there have been any issues/incidents involving our dad. If we have asked for anything to be done for dad,
the staff have usually acted straight away. The staff are all very kind and caring to all the residents. The activities they have are amazing. My dad seems to love them. The home is very clean, the laundry is clean and fresh, the food is wonderful. It is a very warm and welcoming home.

Overall a very nice care home but the rooms are getting shabby. Feel they are due some redecoration. Also if we could know the door code to get in would be better instead of waiting outside in the cold for someone to open it. Also my mum says needs more variety in the food options.

Reply from Debbie Dowd, Manager at Millbeck

Thank you for taking the time to review Millbeck and we are pleased that you rate our care/ support as excellent. I appreciate you taking the time to discuss your feedback with me in terms of your Mum's care. We're happy to update our residents' rooms as needed, by re-decorating and arranging new curtains etc. Our residents help plan our menus, which are updated each season. However, there are always alternatives available for our residents. The safety of our residents and colleagues is our priority, so our main door remains secure and requires a colleague to open this for visitors. At busier times, this may take a little more time. I'm always happy to discuss all aspects of our care day-to-day life at a mutually convenient time.

Mum has been at Kirkley Lodge for over two years now and is very happy there. The reason being is that Kirkley is a lovely place and the staff are exceptional with the care and compassion they show. Not just to Mum but all the residents.
Mum loves the company of the other residents along with the activities
provided and she likes a laugh with the staff. We as a family know Mum is being looked after which is a relief to us all. Thank you Kirkley.

Both my Father-in-law and Mother-in-law are in the home, they both receive the most excellent care from every member of staff. They are treated like a member of their family and shown the same love. We as their family are truly grateful to each and every one of them as it gives us peace and satisfaction.
We couldn't be happier with every aspect of the home.

It's just over the 12-month anniversary of both my parents entering Kirkley Lodge and it has been a wonderful 12 months, the previous few years where we tried to look after and care for my parents had been very tiring and extremely stressful for both my brother and his wife and my self and my wife.
Despite our best endeavours, the task was becoming beyond us and the relief and joy we got from seeing our parents in a secure safe welcoming, and very loving environment has been literally a lifesaver.
The staff have been fantastic from the outset and have in effect become extended family and made our and especially our parent's lives so much happier and stress-free.
I couldn't recommend this place any stronger to any potential customers as an ideal solution to a difficult situation for all.

My mum has been at Kirkley Lodge since May 2024 following a stroke. To say we were apprehensive about her moving into 24-hour care is an understatement. Having worked in health and social care myself for many years I've seen huge variety in the type of care and support people receive. I chose Kirkley
Lodge after visiting many other care homes in the area and I now realise how fortunate we were that Mum got a space. Everyone from the kitchen staff, carers, team leaders, administrator, deputy manager, and manager are friendly, welcoming, and genuinely caring. In a few short months, both my mum and myself have built relationships with the staff and I feel I could approach them about any issue, which is incredibly reassuring. The high standards are set by the manager and her leadership is evident across the home. There is a real sense of community within Kirkley Lodge and high-quality person-centred care.

My father is very happy at Millbeck. He has an excellent relationship with the staff, who are all patient and kind. As a visitor, I find the staff polite and helpful. They take a genuine interest in my father and do everything possible to make his life in Millbeck a comfortable one. He also tells me
that the food is usually excellent and he can have a glass of wine with his meal!

In recent months and after a number of medical challenges Mum decided to give up her own home and moved to Milbeck Care Home. We were concerned that Mum might not settle having been in her own home for so long. In reality, Mum has settled in really well and has been made to be very welcome. All the
staff have been brilliant in supporting Mum to use all the facilities, take medication and join in the social events - no complaints about the food too!
We are very pleased with how everything has gone over the last months and it's great to see Mum settling in so well.

I first knew of Millbeck when a lovely lady I cared for in her own home moved there. So when another lady I cared for told me she was going into a home, I immediately recommended Millbeck. I'm always made to feel welcome by all staff. The lady I visit now has a lovely room withe everything she needs.
There is always a member of staff popping in to ask my friend if she needs anything.
