My stay in Hazel End was as a temporary resident for respite care due to a lengthy stay in hospital. The care I received has aided my recover while my home was being adapted. The help and kindness shown to me has benefited me greatly.

The care, premises, management, staff, food and drink are superb. The effort that goes into every aspect of the resident's care is remarkable. There have been quite a few changes in caring and other staff, but seem to have gone through smoothly without affecting residents. Continuity of staff and routines is of paramount importance to residents suffering from Dementia/Alzheimer's conditions, and this has been handled by management and care
staff most admirably. Thank you

This care home has been fantastic for my mother. She has her every wish granted, by just clicking the call button around her neck. The home always is very caring, both for my mother and myself They are very aware it's not easy for the family either. Unfortunately, my mum isn't interested in participating
in the entertainment that is organised. However, from what I've seen, it always looks enjoyable and gives the residents a lift to be together.

My mother has been a resident of Hazel End for nearly two years. The surroundings, both internally and externally, are lovely and spacious. The total ambience is very friendly and welcoming. The food is plentiful, with lots of healthy options. The entertainment and social activities are regular and
well organised. But by far the best asset of this care home is the staff. They go out of their way to make us feel part of a big family. They are caring and kind towards the residents (some of whom can be rather challenging), and efficient in carrying out their duties. I would love to mention staff individually in this review but would end up mentioning all of them! The manager should be proud of herself for leading such a fabulous team. I regularly recommend this care home to friends and acquaintances and will continue to do so.

Layston Grove

from Lee B (Grandson of Resident) published on 4 November 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5

My Nan stayed there. I came into her room to see her flat out on the bed when the 'carers' gave her breakfast whilst perched on the edge of the bed. Not in her chair like normal or with any support for her back.
She couldn't lift her own body weight and suffering from dementia, so her opinion was mentally
unreliable.
How long had she been there? She couldn't get up, I was even more shocked to discover she did not have her emergency pendant around her neck. So if I hadn't arrived how long would she have been laying there? Possibly choking on her breakfast too! How could she have alerted the staff if I hadn't arrived?
Clearly, I complained, and the same standard responses were received. No suggestion of a refund or sorts for such a potentially catastrophic level of 'care'. The purpose of me writing this review is to offer a warning to anyone considering this care home. Why risk placing your most vulnerable in such an unpredictable, basic and disrespectful level of care.

This truly is an exceptional home. Clean, tidy and well looked after. The care provided is second to none. The staff regularly go above and beyond looking after the residents but the family is well. From the lady on reception to the seniors to the manager, an amazing care team in between, my mum receives
outstanding care and is very happy and settled at Layston Grove. Would not hesitate putting a loved one in Leiston Grove and making it their new home.

Friendly staff from reception to carers. My mum's room is kept clean and tidy every day. Mum is fully supported by the amazing care team. Sometimes she may comment that the food could be better. The bedroom is very hot so perhaps an upgrade to have air conditioning would be good for the future.

Well, what can I say but thank you so very much for a wonderful successful happy visit. My mum went upstairs for a clothing shopping trip. A beautiful range of clothes and Mum chose her own. 2 pairs of trousers, pull on, 3 short-sleeved jumpers immensely soft and a long-sleeved cardigan on order. All
clothes were taken to the laundry immediately following purchase for labelling. What an incredible care home. I drove for 3 hours but today an accident and heavy rain. However, I leave a very happy 93-year-old lady who made her own choices. As a carer of many years, this has been such an incredible visit and so worthwhile. Thank you to an amazing team of staff.

I called ahead to let the staff know I would be visiting my mother with a bucket of flowers to say how grateful we are as a family for all the care, love and even a birthday cake recently. My mind is always peaceful and our mother told one of my children never to worry as everyone is so kind and she
never wants for anything. A huge thank you.

My dear mum, aged 93, has been at Layston Grove since the start of 2024. She settled in very quickly, although she has Alzheimer's and is not a naturally sociable person. She loves her room, appears to enjoy the food and is eating and drinking much more than when she was at home with carers visiting.
She is encouraged to join in with suitable activities, has her hair done regularly in the on-site hairdressers and sees a GP in the home if required. I visit regularly and always find the staff to be cheerful, watchful and respectful of residents' needs and wishes. The home is beautifully decorated and furnished and appears to be very well maintained and managed. I am very grateful my Mum has been able to move into Layston Grove and only wish she could have been there sooner!

From viewing the home which we found by chance and the difficulties encountered trying to get mum to view the home to respite care then moving to a full-time resident. We cannot fault anything. The staff are all amazing and incredibly caring, kind and compassionate. I have complete peace of mind that
my mum is looked after and enjoying her later years in a wonderful environment.

from Elaine T (Daughter of Resident) published on 12 June 2024

My father moved into Hazel End in September last year and as he was 99 and still living independently, we had started looking at the possibility of him moving into a care home and when a room became available, we were not going to let the opportunity pass him by.
At first, he didn't want to stay (I
believe he was home sick sadly), but this was not the case for long and gradually he has become part of the Hazel End family.
He has so many friends there, both residents and staff and once more, he is somebody and not just an old man living on his own.
He loves the exercise classes there, adores his cheeky chats with the staff and is so happy with the folk who he shares a table with at meal times.
We are convinced that if he hadn't made this move, that he would not longer be with us, but he is and he is absolutely thriving and looking forward to turning 100 in a couple of days.
We cannot thank the staff enough, for their kindness, compassion, patience and professionalism, you're amazing.

Hazel End is a very welcoming and friendly home. The home is of a very high standard in care, cleanliness, private facilities and friendly communal areas.
The medical care and support are very good and any NHS service is arranged quickly whenever needed.
For me, one of the best facilities is the
lifestyle ladies, who offer residents daily activities to keep them active and entertained.
I love reading the daily social posts which provide comfort whenever I spot my mother taking part. The lifestyle team celebrates any special day, holiday, or birthday so something is happening every day.
The food is mostly very good.
Both mum and I find the staff very helpful, friendly and supportive.

Our relative has been at Hazel End for 16 months and is a different person. The home is very well run and all the staff who are caring, kind and helpful to residents and visitors are dedicated to their work showing passion in all they do. The medical and personal care is very good. All rooms are clean,
bright and airy and the communal areas are spacious. There is a Garden Room which is quiet and peaceful, cinema room for film shows or musical singalongs, a tea room and hairdressers. The chef is very good providing a well-balanced choice of nutritional meals and snacks often from different cultures. Entertainment is excellent, there is always something going on ie, birthday celebration or special occasion, craft group, exercise classes and various games there is something for everyone if they wish to participate. Relatives and friends are also invited and encouraged to join in. We are very satisfied with the overall care received and would highly recommend this lovely care home.
