Cornwall Park

from C C (Daughter of Resident) published on 7 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Mum was admitted to Cornwall Park after a crisis and we have been nothing short of grateful for the excellent care she is receiving. We were immediately struck by the calm and caring ethos when we first visited and this started at our first point of contact with the manager. Staff at all levels, are
kind, respectful, patient and pay attention to detail. Of course, it took some weeks for Mum to settle (not helped by the fact that she is visually impaired) but we were reassured by the effort made to help her e.g. moving rooms to a quieter area and immediate communication if there were concerns. It is a huge relief to know that Mum is safe and well cared for.
My lower rating for 'value for money' is based on the fact that self-funded full-time care costs are absurdly high where ever, so this is not directed specifically to Cornwall Park.

Reply from Georgea Buckle, Operations Executive at Cornwall Park

Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback. We're so pleased to hear that you felt welcomed and reassured by the team's care and efforts to support your mum. It's wonderful to know she's now settled and safe - that peace of mind is so important. We truly appreciate your kind words about our staff and the care we provide.

Merse House is probably fairly ok due to the amount it costs every week, which is still a fairly substantial amount! My mother as far as I and other family are aware is well looked after. She has issues sometimes relating to food. After the review, I find the managers are far more forthcoming now i.e.
regarding the welfare of clients and anything else that is happening. Staff I have always found to be very approachable and friendly. Very caring and attentive to their elderly clients. Hopefully, Merse House is on the right track now!

My mother has been in residence here from 3rd August 2024. I have nothing but praise for all the staff. So helpful and caring towards my mum. She did take a while to settle but that was due to her losing her independence etc. They always pop in when passing and have a chat. Their care is excellent as
my mum has lost her mobility she needs a lot done for her but, nothing is an issue, lots of cups of tea. Food has been a bit inconsistent of late and as my mum was a cook she does comment a lot. All in all an excellent service.

Reply from Phil Benson, Executive Director of Operations at Munches Park House

Thank you so much for your kind review. We're so pleased to hear that you've had such a positive experience with our staff and that your mum is receiving the excellent care she deserves. We understand that adjusting to a new environment can be challenging and we're happy to know that our team has been able to offer her support and companionship during this transition. We also appreciate your feedback on the food and we'll take that into consideration as we work to improve consistency. Thank you again for your trust and for acknowledging the care your mum is receiving - it truly means a lot to us!

My wife who suffers from Alzheimer's Disease has been resident in Charnwood Lodge for some five and a half years. In that time, she has received exemplary treatment from all the staff and she is always happy and contented. She is well fed, and always well dressed and kept neat and tidy with a weekly
visit to the hairdresser on site. I visit her regularly and I cannot fault the management and staff who make me feel welcome and keep me fully informed of her health and condition.

I can only praise the staff at Charnwood for the care and attention my mother has received since becoming a resident in their care. It does appear at times that staffing levels are not what they should be but they work hard to provide a good standard of care at all times. I am aware that recruitment
is an issue in most care homes.
Attended the Christmas party which was a great success enjoyed by residents, families, friends and staff alike. Thank you for all the hard work that made it a memorable afternoon. Keep up the good work!

With so many problems recruiting in care homes, Charnwood Lodge is no different. However, staff (from local management to auxiliary support) work hard to ensure residents receive excellent care.
This year's Christmas party was a highlight and many staff who could have been off were there to support
residents to enjoy themselves. Great afternoon of singing and dancing and every resident was made to feel special. Also good to see so many family and friends of residents in attendance and hopefully lots of money raised to enable the purchase of the specialist tablet for residents.
Thanks to all involved in making the party such a success. Mum had a great day!
Overall, very happy with the care given (and staff, who really go an extra mile) but feel that owners of Charnwood Lodge need to ensure the premises and facilities are brought up to a satisfactory level as commented on in the last Care Inspectorate report. Additional recruitment would allow staff to spend more quality time with residents.

The care my mother receives is excellent, the staff in her unit go above and beyond, they treat the residents like their own family. They are so welcoming when we visit, we could not ask for more.
The management keep you well informed with what is going on and call for medical assistance if or when
it is required.
They all take away so much worry for the family.

My dad is relatively new to the home but the care and assistance in helping him settle in has been a great support to my dad and the rest of the family.

My mother has been in Cornwall Park now for almost 2 years. She is 96 and has all her mental facilities. She is not capable of looking after herself and needs support with physical elements. As a family, we have found the staff and management to be very good and do a great job. One downside is my mother
is alongside dementia sufferers and finds it a lovely place sometimes as no one to talk to properly.

Reply from Phil Benson, Executive Director of Operations at Cornwall Park

Thank you for the kind review. I am going to ask the home manager to reach out to you to see if we could do more to support your mother with the issue you have highlighted.

from Irene S (Daughter of Resident) published on 12 December 2024

Although my mother has only been a resident for a number of weeks, she has settled in extremely well due to the care and kindness she has received from all staff members. All her physical and mental health needs are being met, and although encouraged to participate in activities, when she does not wish
to her decision is respected. In her own words, "she wants for nothing". As daughter of a new resident, I have found the Manager, Seniors and Care Staff excellent at communicating information I need to know about my mother's wellbeing, or about the Home in general. They were also very approachable and understanding of the initial stress and sadness experienced by both my mother and myself when she first became a resident, leaving her own home.

My brother has been a resident here since 17/6/24. He was an extremely confused, angry and very challenging resident but is now contented and (mostly) compliant, solely down to the patient, compassionate and long-suffering staff. They have always been positive. The manager has a lovely, upbeat approach
and did everything in her power to help him settle and succeeded in doing so! She always gets a smile from him which is lovely for family to see. When he has had medical issues staff are just wonderful. Although I can see stress and tiredness etched on their faces they play it all down. I can't praise them highly enough. His personal care is always a priority as he can be difficult but again it's amazing how staff develop little strategies to get him to comply. The food is brilliant! He ate virtually nothing before entering Munches but is enjoying all his food so much which is a joy to see. Residents have numerous activities to opt into and visiting groups plus outdoor spaces to enjoy.
