Very caring and personal staff who get to know residents and become friends with them. When problems arise, they listen and implement solutions and change. They really work with you and listen to residents' needs.

My wife, suffering from dementia, has been resident for over five years. In that time there has been little change in staff which speaks for itself regarding staff quality and satisfaction. She has been well cared for during this advancement of dementia symptoms. I'm always welcomed with a smile when
visiting and care is carefully administered with dedication. Overall experience of The Devonshire Care Home is excellent.

My husband looks physically well and cared for and, despite his increasing mental health issues, shows no sign of distress. The staff on Kingfisher Unit have consistently been welcoming and receptive to any concerns or queries I have had. The food always looks apetising and seems varied. I have had
no complaints about how my husband has been cared for.

I regularly visit my father at different times of the day, the staff are outstanding, they are caring, compassionate and respectful. My father was given a few weeks to live however it's one and half years since the prognosis due to the fantastic care which he is receiving. The staff and the leadership
of the home says it all - excellent. Congratulations on receiving overall Good to your recent CQC rating.

Generally I have been satisfied with the level of care, bearing in mind the challenges of the dementia ward. There have been 3 or 4 times when I have not been happy. I have addressed it immediately. The room needing partial decoration does not help with perception. Plus what appears is rare deep cleans.
Staff are mainly friendly and helpful. But management are hard to find. Food seems average with lack of flexibility to individual needs.

My Dad was resident of Peacock Community at The Devonshire from October 24 to March 25. He had advanced Dementia. The care, support and overall experience was excellent.

He settled into life quickly in Peacock, making friends with the other residents, aided by the wonderful nurses and staff.

The food was great, the room and community always sparking clean, and the professional and emotional support provided to my Dad was brilliant.

We were always made to feel welcome when we visited by all the staff who were always professional and personable.

it was evident on my many visits that my Dad and other residents enjoyed life at Peacock, the care provided and dignity he received in his final days were brilliant.

I visited my Brother for a few hours on the 29th of December 2024. This was my first visit. Due to building works it was a little bit unclear how to access the building. Apart from the building works I was very impressed with all aspects of the care provided. One of the senior nurses had related my
Brother to a quieter room which was greatly appreciated. There was also lots of positive interaction between the staff and my brother. Generally, the staff was very helpful. Overall there was a very positive atmosphere in the home and a clear sense that residents were well looked after.

When I was told that my wife was to be discharged from hospital to a care home, I felt uncomfortable as I felt I was able to care for my wife at home with the help of visiting carers, I could not have been more wrong. My wife has a pressure sore on the sacrum which appeared in September (now December)
before her hospital stay. She requires 24 hour care, regular turning which she has in the home and a nurse on standby which she has. To enable the sore to heal she also requires a special diet which she gets and at the last the sore is healing due entirely to the staff. Everyone from the cleaners, carers, kitchen staff, nurses and management are so friendly, always engaging and smiling, They treat my wife and myself impeccably.

Thank you for your kind words. It's incredibly rewarding to know that our team's dedication has made such a positive difference. Providing compassionate, high-quality care is exactly what we work so hard to achieve, and hearing how your wife is benefiting from this means so much to all of us. We'll be sure to share your feedback with the entire team as it will inspire and encourage everyone to continue their excellent work. Please let us know if there's anything more we can do to support you.

Lately, staff shortages are acutely observed. This leads to inadequate care and support for the resident. Existing staff try their best but this may not be sufficient at all times.
The care home is currently going through a major refurbishment but the staff quarters aren't included in this. By staff
I mean the people who actually provide the service and look after the residents.

I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude for this lovely home. My husband spent his last six months there, he was happy and well looked after. From personal care to the meals and activities everything was of the highest standards. Their units are well designed for mobile residents who can
walk along the corridors, stretch their legs, communicate with other residents, and feel free, and feel like they are in their own homes. The friendly staff goes the extra mile to provide a very high professional care and person centred approach to all their residents. I have been visiting this home every day at different times and have seen the residents clean, happy, and entertained. From our previous experiences at the other care homes in Reading (as short stays) the River View is the best home because they really do understand the needs of people with dementia. All this makes this home safe and comfortable. A very special thanks to the Kingfisher unit staff for looking after our loved ones.

I am not at all unhappy with the treatment I have received since coming to the Windmill. Sometimes there have been problems but they have always been taken care of by the staff professionally. I know that any further treatment will be carried out in the same way. Thank you Windmill.
