Food is basic and not appetising. On one occasion residents were given crumpets with squirty cream on for desert. There isn't fresh fruit available at meal times. Residents with allergies are not given the same choices as other residents and are often given repetitive meals.
Clothes often going missing
and usually found on other residents. Personal hygiene is hit and miss with residents left without being showered for months. Residents being taken to bed at half past six and the ones that won't stay in bed often left in lounge with no tv or music on.
Staff are undertrained and struggle with the care of the more challenging residents. Management don't listen and will often fabricate the truth to cover up mistakes. Trust is now broken over the number of incidents I have had to endure and challenge.

My dad had been a resident for four years and had received excellent care over this time. He loved the food! The staff were kind, caring and attentive. Sadly he died at Christmas. He was treated with such care, and we, his family, were treated with such sensitivity and kindness. We will always be grateful
to the wonderful staff that work here.

My aged aunt was moved into Willow Bank in September this year, she was struggling to cope at home (living by herself at 93 years of age. As far as I can see she is receiving excellent care and attention. The staff really seem to enjoy their work and always have a smile. My main contact has been with
a staff member in the office who projects the whole ethos of the home (happy, caring and finds time for everyone). I can't comment on value for money (she is being funded by the NHS).

There is a lack of warmth and welcome at Howgate that is not conducive to resident wellbeing and visitor confidence.
I am comparing Howgate to what I consider to be better care homes (from personal experience).

Don't really do reviews but after spending every day for the last 3 weeks visiting both parents, I need to tell anyone who reads this that Willie Bank has exceeded my expectations. They are great, helpful empathetic and understanding to their needs. Food is fab, real good variety. Carers work extremely
hard but still greet with a smile. One staff member in particular in the office is so helpful, it's very reassuring knowing you've got someone around who knows all the ins and outs. The nurses are professional and knowledgeable and understand complex needs. So happy I found this place. Compared to others it was a great find.

My mother-in-law was moved from the hospital to Willow Bank and diagnosed with terminal cancer (already diagnosed with dementia).
The room we chose was light and airy, she was given a pressure mattress as she had pressure sores from her hospital stay. She was very comfortable and happy during the
short time she lived there. The care she was given was the best we could have asked for. Always someone to answer any questions we had about her care and her deteriorating health. We like that there was always a registered nurse available and that a GP visited weekly. We would highly recommend Willow Bank.

What a wonderful care home Howgate is made more so by the excellent staff and management who are all pleasant and willing to listen at any time. They all strive to make sure the residents are safe and as happy as they could possibly be. What more could you ask from this wonderful caring care home, so
from the cleaners to the managers a big well done.

The staff are friendly, but there are not enough of them. We are consistently being told the staff-to-residents ratio is correct, but it absolutely isn't. The staff-to-residents needs ratio is not being met. When my mum moved into Howgate in January 2023, she had a shower every week, now she's lucky
if she gets one a month. I get costs are rising but this should not be to the detriment of the residents.

My aunt has come into Howgate House since 28/12/23. Both her physical and mental health has improved. She has put on wight and is enjoying the food. She has settled in quickly. She has as many personal possessions around her as necessary to make her feel at home. The carers are all lovely with tons
and tons of patience, very kind and respectful. The management staff are all approachable and sort out any concerns efficiently, it's all good.

For over 12 months Willow Bank have looked after my brother who had suffered a massive stroke. Sadly he has now passed. The standard of care given to him was excellent. The staff are so friendly, especially the staff member on the front desk. I cannot thank the home and the staff enough for everything
they have done. From a very grateful brother, thank you.

I was frustrated with the care of my father over the last couple of years that was not always good with the last management. However the new manager is professional, approachable, treats me and my resident father with respect, genuinely cares for people and since his appointment there has been a big
improvement at Willow Bank in all areas and the home seems to be on the up. I would also like to thank the assistant manager and the staff that do their best. I hope other staff will jump on board.
