What can I say about Aylesham Court. The staff are absolutely amazing. They cannot do enough for their residents or their families. The rooms are clean and tidy, never has a piece of Dads clothing gone missing during the washing period. The whole home is just brilliant. I cannot recommend this place
highly enough. My mum went to Aylesham Court for resbite care and didn't want to leave!!!

Ashby Court Nursing Home provides excellent care for my mother with a dedicated staff who prioritize the well being of the residents. The facility is clean and well maintained with an excellent variety of activities to keep all residents engaged, which mother enjoys immensely. As a family we feel that
mum is safe and comfortable here and we appreciate the open communication with all the staff and management at Ashby Court.

My nanna has been in this care home for the last 8+ years. The first couple of years also spent with my grandad who has sadly passed away. They lived together in a double room on the dementia unit which was very accommodating. I would often visit them both in the living room which was lovely and inviting
and the staff were always friendly. The staff made my grandads final few days very comfortable and peaceful for him which we are very grateful for. Nanna is now in the nursing unit and she has a lovely room with bright light and lots of pictures on her wall. I have always had a great experience with all of the nursing staff who seem happy to be at work and have a lovely relationship with my nanna. She is always dressed well and clean. The food is prepared to a high standard and smells great. I will always speak highly of this care home.

Her room has a large plastered patch on the wall that has been there for a year. Considering the cost of the room, I would expect redecoration. The staff are lovely and they lay on activities most weeks which is nice. The cost is incredibly high.

My husband went into the home in November 2024 with lung problems which meant he was on oxygen 24/7. The manager said this was something the home could cope with. The nursing staff did not seem to have any experience with oxygen concentrators or NIV machines. My husband's oxygen became detached one
day and he was left with no oxygen for 7 minutes and unable to breathe, this was despite buzzing for help and shouting for help. The excuse was they were busy serving meals. They did apologise when I complained and said they would respond straight away in the future. Unfortunately, my husband was only in the home 10 days before he passed, he was seen the day before he died by the doctor but no one picked up on how poorly he was. He passed away in the early hours of the next morning and I was informed at 3am by phone that he had already died, I therefore believe no one checked on him in the night. They heard his machine bleeping went in and he was dying but no one called me until he had passed.

from Stephen H (Son of Resident) published on 31 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

Overall the care home caters for my mum's needs. Issues have been resolved, ie upgrade of my mum's room, following an email from myself. Maybe internal reviews/checklists need to be established by management, to ensure the above is resolved before any complaint.
Have had mixed reviews about the standard
of food, cannot really comment as I'm not there when they receive the meals.
Would like to see some justification regarding the price increase.

Reply from Maria Ricketts, Customer Care Adviser at Ashby Court Care Home

We are sorry that the decorating and upgrade of mum's room was reactive. Once the issues were raised, the home responded to and completed the work in a very short space of time. There is a programme of redecoration and renewal in the home to ensure the environment is well decorated in all areas. Our Head Chef takes feedback from the residents on menu choices and implements these according to the feedback. There is a Residents' Committee that meet every month to ensure the residents' voices are heard where things like food choices and activities are concerned. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make your mums stay as comfortable as possible.

My husband has been in the home a few months now and seems settled with all the staff being very friendly. They have plenty of activities going on daily with some really good ones visiting playing music and singing in particular.
Just before Christmas a new chef arrived and since then he's made lots
of lovely dishes and cakes that everyone enjoys. The food is really appetising even those on special diets are catered for and those on soft food diets have food piped to look like proper meals. Also if there's nothing on the menu a person likes they make sure they get them something to eat that they enjoy.
They have recently made a coffee area in the main entrance hall which gives it a feeling of walking into a 5-star hotel, not a nursing home.
Somewhere I can fully recommend.

My mum came to Ashby Court for respite care after being in hospital. Since she arrived she has improved a great deal. All the staff are so kind, helpful and friendly. My mother was a resident at Aylesham Court for 3 months prior to her passing away in September, the nursing care she received was exceptional, and she was treated with care and dignity at every stage, unfortunately, she passed away whilst we were on holiday, but there was a staff member with her all
the time in her final hours, two members of staff even staying after their shifts had ended to be with her. We cannot recommend this home enough. Many thanks for looking after Mum (and us) like you did, we really appreciate it.

Mum has been in Aylesham Court for over 3 years now. Her needs have changed over this time and the staff have been excellent in identifying, implementing, and communicating with family to ensure Mum's care continues to be met in a kind, caring, and professional manner.
Mum's communication is extremely
poor but staff are very 'tuned in' to any changes Mum displays and deal with these immediately.
The most important thing is, that Mum says she likes it in the home and continues to smile. Well done all.

Some carers are better than others of course. Often no one comes when you ring the bell, just walk past. The variety of food is poor, quality ok. Some carers put tablets down and leave them, some put them in my wife's mouth. She can put them in herself. Not enough things to do - when having trips out,
come and ask me, please. Clothes etc keep going missing.
Some staff are very friendly and helpful, a couple especially so. Not happy that people don't seem to help to commode at night. My wife likes to garden and would appreciate the chance to do more. Overall reasonably happy.
