The care team are great looking after the residents, making sure this difficult season is still a time for them to enjoy Christmas. With old films to reminisce and a Christmas day with presents and games. Always happy with the care they provide and the senior carers are always happy to talk and update
me with any developments.

On entry to home security is paramount. Home is bright, clean and warm. Reception staff always pleasant. There are always great activities and staff are mostly welcoming and smiling. Residents seem well cared for and comfortable. My relative speaks highly of food and her carers.

Moving my partner into residential care has been the hardest decision I have ever had to make. I knew it was in our best interest but as someone once said to me "no one ever said it would be easy"!
I made an appointment with a staff member to look around the home. From entering Priory Care Residential
Home on that first morning this member of staff and other members of staff were so kind and helpful. As I left I already felt that Priory Care would look after my partner and that this was the best residential home for him.
In the months that my partner has been a resident, I have found all the staff caring and attentive to both of us. The care he receives is first class and I can't thank you all enough. When I visit I always feel welcome and leave knowing my partner is safe.

Thank you so much for the lovely review we appreciate the time it takes and I will ensure all information is passed on to the staff team. We are so happy you are pleased with the care provided and we will aim to continue this through the placement. If you ever have any questions or queries you can take the care manager or either manager in the home at any time. Hope you have a lovely day.

The last thing I wanted was for my dad to go into a care home. I cannot explain the guilt I felt, but now wish I had done it months earlier, he's so well looked after in every way. He's very happy and so are we, the care he receives is fabulous the staff work so hard and are lovely to everyone. I have
my life back now and dad's looked after fabulously, better than I could do. Food is home cooked by their chef, activities every day. The home is so clean and never smells, dad is shaved showered and has clean clothes all the time. Lovely.

I'm concerned that property of residents sometimes ends up in another residents room. This is both ways, extras ending up with mum and her property being found in an other residents room.
I've also witnessed some inconsistencies with moving and handling techniques, and lack of verbal support during
the process when she obviously feel unsafe, whether or not this is the case.
Mum now goes upstairs on a daily basis, but on my recent visits she is always downstairs. I've never been given an explanation as to why this happens. I would like to see her in her normal daily environment, and will ask about this at out next visit.
Overall mum seems comfortable and happy with her care as she tells me so without prompting and has a good warm, rather cheeky relationship with the staff.

Reply from laura bismor, Manager at Priory Care Residential Home

I have asked the care manager to get in contact with you to look into your concerns. Unfortunately on occasion, items can be mixed up but we do assure you this is a rare situation rather than a usual, but any time you see this please do let us know at the time and we can rectify this immediately. Your mum is now visiting the dementia unit upstairs in the home on a daily basis to gain more specialised care and activities, with a higher staffing number. I have checked on the notes and this was spoken through with your sister. On a happy note I am glad your mum tells you she is happy with her care and yes I can agree she has a lovely relationship with the staffing team, we are very happy she is part of our home.

I have found the home to be clean, warm and well cared for, the food is adequate and varied. The staff are amazing considering my wife has complex needs, the room my wife is in serves its purpose but I am afraid it is a bit like a prison cell where she can't see out of a window, other than to look at
the passing clouds, and the door is constantly closed. Despite her dementia and parkinsons she still has some mental capacity and would benefit from a bit of mental stimulation but the home are not allowed to get her out of bed so in effect she is being allowed to rot in the bed, not a way I would like her to spend her remaining days, months/ years.

Reply from Laura Bismor, Manager at Priory Care Residential Home

Thank you so much for your review and taking the time to tell us of your experience at the home. We are so very sorry your wife is bed bound due to her health conditions. I have checked her file and yes the OT's have confirmed again only last Wednesday that she is still to stay in bed in her best interest, the carers in the home are not allowed to go against these directions of care. The doors must stay closed as these are fire doors and protect all residents in the case of fire/emergency. I can see that you visit every day and the activity carer visits when you are not there for chats and simulation in your absence. If you would like to speak to the care manager on shift next time you are in the home to go over any other ideas for your wife's care she would be happy to see you.

Placing your loved one in a home is a difficult and heartbreaking decision, even worse is visiting care homes to find a suitable placement, unfortunately good care homes are hard to find. I knew the minute I walked into Priory it was the right place for Mum, very person-centred care. it's all about
the residents and their needs, staff are very good, everything is done with a smile.

Great care home where you are made to feel welcome when you visit. Always clean and tidy and staff are always ready to have a chat. My relative says he's happy with his room in the home. Some staff help my relative to do jigsaws on a regular basis. We have had slight issues with communications between
staff/management but the staff have always followed up in a professional manner and we are satisfied with the outcome. I have visited many homes in my former role and I have to say this home stands out to me as a particularly good one where staff really do care about their residents.

Review of

Priory Care Residential Home

from Andrew H (Brother of Resident) published on 4 September 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5

There are some amazing staff doing some difficult work in the home, but are always polite, and happy. I am still unclear as to the overall picture of my brother's scenario - who is responsible for which elements of my brother's being?
I know his room depresses him. A simple cell with a TV. Rules mean
a lack of personal items and mementoes which could help his recuperation.I am grateful that he has a roof over his head and is fed and looked after by a group of kind staff. His mental health and physical recovery continue to be a sadness to his family. If he was homed nearer to us perhaps we would have better communication and input to his quality of life, but at the moment due to uncertainty of the trail of decisions and input to his life, this is difficult. The home is but one piece of the puzzle.

Reply from laura bismor, Manager at Priory Care Residential Home

Thank you so much for the review, we appreciate all reviews. We are so very happy you praise the staff and give the cleanliness 5 stars as these two things can be the hardest two factors to get right in a care home. We understand your brother has some issues and this can be really upsetting to see as a family member and that you live away and are not always able to visit on a regular basis which again must be frustrating for you. I can assure you he has been contacted by many services in the NHS to improve his daily life but he chooses not to engage with, staff encourage on a daily basis. There are no rules on personal belongings he can bring any personal items into the home which most residents do to personal their space. If you could bring in the items you believe will add to his recuperation we would be happy to have them. We have spoken to social workers to look for a care home nearer you to help you be more involved in his care.

I submitted feedback in December 2023 about the fantastic care my mum received whilst in the Priory, sadly my mum passed away in January and I meant to leave a review shortly after but never got round to it. I hope my previous review and this one will help if you are considering placing a relative in
their care. The care home itself is outstanding but it's the staff that really make the place work! Even in Mum's last few days the care given was so warm, caring and all staff continued to bring a smile to her face. Whatever business you are in it's the people that make the difference and they really do here! I do of course miss my mum but I also miss visiting the home and the company of those who looked after her. Such wonderful caring people and a pleasure to be around. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

We, as a family, would like to thank the manager and staff for looking after our mum who has been in The Olde Coach House now for several weeks. The care she receives is exemplary, and the knowledge of, and attention to her needs was well evidenced yesterday when we had a meeting there. Mum has been
in many care homes over the last decade and the coach house surpasses all others in every way. We are very grateful to the manager and her excellent team.

I often visit my father-in-law in the home. Whenever I visit him, he seems too thirsty. I am not too sure how often he is being given a drink, because he couldn't feed himself. I don't understand about the system or I just worry about his condition compared to other residents. I hope my concern will
be clear to understand and see him more lively and fresher. Thank you.

Reply from Laura Bismor, Manager at The Olde Coach House

Many thanks Napaporn, I have passed your concerns to AR. She will contact you to discuss, please always do speak to the team when you are in the home with any worries or questions, they can then show you the charts to ease any worries. It's always a worry when our loved ones take to their beds due to a decline in health, it can take a second to adjust to them getting less active than they used to be. I have had a quick look at his records and his drinking quantity is an appropriate amount each day and its recorded. He has a jug in his room each day for the carers to assist him with. Are you bringing in different drinks he likes that we do not have in the home? Maybe a different taste is what he likes. We are always happy to buy other products if you think he likes something different, please do let us know.

Having looked after Mum before her going into care I know how hard the work can be. The care Mum gets is second to none, her dementia can make her difficult at times, but the carers take this all in their stride and are always respectful and good-natured with her, and nothing is too much trouble.
From
the moment you walk into the home, you are made to feel welcomed by all the staff and I am given information about Mum and her wellbeing. When she recently had a long-standing chest infection, I was kept informed about how she was doing and what treatment she was being given.
Thank you to all the staff, carers, receptionists, and cleaners (who usually let me out) for all the work you do, I feel happy knowing she is in good hands.
