Red House - Care Home

from Shaun W (Son of Resident) published on 3 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

As a volunteer with older people I have visited many care homes in the last few years and Red House is definitely in the top three, possibly the best.
The staff of all ranks are superb and treat all residents with respect, and do whatever they can to help them live a dignified, fruitful life in their
later years. There also seems to be a very low staff turnover which is always a good pointer in a care setting.
My mum's room, and everywhere there, is spotlessly clean and the standard of food, and willingness to cater for my picky mum, is excellent.

My mother has recently passed away at The Wolds Nursing and Care Centre. It is testimony to the kindness and care that she enjoyed over 5 years as a resident. We, as a family of a resident, always felt well communicated with and were always welcomed by members of staff as though we were entering into
a home environment. We can't thank the staff enough.

Mum went from hospital into the care system. We were so worried she would be upset and want to go home. We needn't have worried. Red House is perfect. The staff are absolutely amazing. Mum loves her bright and clean room. The dining/lounge areas are bright and spacious. The staff are always around.
They are kind, caring and so professional. They welcome us on every visit. Mum is so settled.

Fairways Care Home

from Jenny A (Daughter of Resident) published on 21 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

I feel my mum is finally settling into her new way of life. As I visit regularly, I am getting to know lots of the staff and they are all very welcoming. I did ask a few weeks ago if it would be possible to have tea/coffee-making facilities. I've even offered to bring in my own, realising the kettle
must be PAC tested. I also appreciate that a kettle isn't appropriate for all residents, so maybe a fob for visitors to enter the Olive Room?

The Entry. I appreciate that staff aren't always available to answer the doorbell but on the last two occasions, I have had to wait outside in the cold to be let in. A visiting relative drove over from Sutton on Sea and could not gain access as no one answered after 20 minutes. I usually end up having to ring the telephone number to ask for admission. Is there a way a doorbell could be fitted in more areas of the care home with an access button?

The refurbishment is looking good and we look forward to seeing what happens with the outside garden space.

Tamarix Lodge - Care Home

from Linda J (Daughter of Resident) published on 8 November 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Mum had a really bad fall and went into the care of Tamarix Lodge - Her care from the minute she arrived to the day she died was exceptional.
The team were caring, compassionate and thoughtful - the lodge itself was spotless, the food excellent and Mum always looked cared for and well presented - right
till the end.
The manager went the extra mile for everything and nothing was too much trouble.
Thank you for helping make her final months as comfortable as she could be.
Highly recommend.

Reply from Ruth Mountain, Home Manager at Tamarix Lodge - Care Home

So pleasantly surprised at the lounge of Cranwell, my sister's room is lovely it is cleaned to a high standard, the food served looks excellent, but the thing that pleased me the most is the wonderful caring nature of all staff. My sister is assisted with personal care and always looks well presented.
Staff treat her with compassion and respect. The staff are well managed and the building is excellent for resident's needs - well done HICA and thank you. You're brilliant!

From the moment Cranwell Court agreed to take my husband as an emergency admission, everyone has gone out of their way to treat him with respect, whilst looking after him and helping him settle in. All the carers without exception are prepared to go the extra mile to make him comfortable. His apartment
with its own front door, bed, sitting area, wet room, and kitchenette is very comfortable. It is nice for the family to have somewhere to relax and make a hot drink when we visit him. I would recommend Cranwell Court without hesitation.

The Wolds Care Centre

from Laura R (Daughter of Resident) published on 16 September 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My father spent the 4 weeks of August here on end-of-life care before he sadly passed away. From the first phone call I fell in love with the care home and staff. The front-of-house staff are very welcoming, helpful and reassuring. They are knowledgeable and more than happy to listen and help if they
can. The rooms are spacious and clean, nicely decorated and have everything you need. I was able to bring my father's own rise reclining chair and fill his room with photos. My father was on Wyekham unit, all of the staff on this unit are fantastic. They took the time to get to know my father and took amazing care of him. He loved each one of his angels. Their care and attitude towards him allowed him to pickup for a short time and enjoy the last few weeks of his life, he even started eating and loved the food. They took amazing care of the family, their care and compassion will be remembered, this made what is a very difficult time a little easier to deal with. Thank you to Dad's angels.

Reply from Michaela McGlynn, Manager at The Wolds Care Centre

Thank you so much for sharing your heartfelt experience during such a difficult time. We are deeply touched by your kind words and are honoured to have been able to care for your father in his final weeks. It means the world to us that you felt supported from your first contact and that your father was able to find comfort and joy during his stay with us. Our Wyekham unit staff will be especially moved by your praise, and were glad to know they made both your father and your family feel cared for. Your words about 'Dad's angels' truly reflect the dedication and compassion our team strives for every day. We send our sincere condolences and thank you again for trusting us during this time.

Mum is currently a resident at Albemarle care home. The home is lovely and clean and there is always plenty of staff on hand to help. The staff are all lovely and I find them to be very caring. I was worried about putting Mum into a home but I feel much happier because she is here. It is also very secure
and as Mum has a tendency to wander this puts my mind at ease.

I visit a long-time friend of mine on a regular basis and, whilst it pains me greatly to see the manner in which his condition has treated him, the support and understanding of the friendly staff have proved invaluable. Despite the challenging circumstances at times, the care staff address changing
circumstances without fuss and with a smile. Reception staff are always welcoming and, though you would imagine their role as largely administrative, they are clearly very familiar with the residents and take time to know them.

Overton House - Care Home

from Kirsten J (Daughter of Resident) published on 16 August 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My dad has been at Overton House for almost 3 years now. At first we were in the midst of covid and it was difficult, but the staff put procedures in place for visiting, sensitive to their residents' needs.
The manager maintains a consistent team and the staff are all very pleasant and friendly and
have a good relationship with my dad. The carers seem particularly popular with him, but all we've had contact with have been great and do sterling work with all the residents in my opinion.
Staff member on reception, is very efficient and helpful and if she doesn't know the information we require, she will find out and relay it.
Dementia is indiscriminate and cruel but all the team seem to enjoy their work and supporting us family members with their continued care and kindness which I feel must be difficult at times.
Thank you to all the team.

Reply from Margaret Walker, Home Manager at Overton House - Care Home

Thank you so much for your review. We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with Overton House. It means the world to us to hear that you feel that your dad has been well cared for over the past three years, especially during such challenging times. Your kind words about our reception team and carers are incredibly encouraging, and we will make sure to pass on your appreciation to everyone involved. We understand the challenges that come with dementia care, and it's reassuring to know that our team's commitment and kindness have provided some comfort to you and your family. Mum was always cared for with dignity and respect. The gardens were beautifully kept with hanging baskets outside the windows. Mum enjoyed sitting in the gardens under her sun umbrella. Mum was able to be signed out and taken into Harrogate to local cafes and restaurants when relatives came if she wanted.
We felt really confident that we had chosen the right place for her.
