Horsforth Manor Care Home

Mum moved to the Dementia floor (Haven) at Horsforth Manor in February 2024, and hand on heart I can say she had the best year. The staff understood her needs from the outset. They provided her with a healthy routine, brilliant care, good food, a great mix of activities and most of all friendship. She
was soon much less anxious, her mood and memory improved dramatically. I can't believe how quickly she settled.
There is a fantastic amount of weekly and themed activities to join in with, and family and friends are encouraged to support the events and made very welcomed. An Advent Calendar of events this Christmas certainly gave us lots of lovely memories. So much thought and effort was put in by the whole team.
When mum got poorly the staff couldn't do enough to support her and the family. Having been encouraged to discuss her end of life wishes, before she became poorly, it became a fundamental part of the care she received and for that I can't thank the team enough.

As a family we were very anxious about putting mum into the home having had a bad experience elsewhere. However I can say one hundred per cent that we never looked back about our decision of choosing Westfield Park. The home is beautiful, the staff so very caring and professional. Mum went in for
respite for a couple of weeks and in that time we could not believe how she changed, going back to being more alert due to the attention and company she received. Just to look at her we could see how well she was being cared for and mum herself had nothing but compliments for the lovely staff.
As a family we felt so at ease with someone else having responsibility 24/7 but it was the standard of care and seeing mum thrive so well that made it all worthwhile. Even we could not compete!
The food was also top quality and lots of activities going on. Everywhere was spotlessly clean.
A big thank you to everyone that made mums visit a success.

This updates a review that I wrote last August. I've been delaying a further review to allow time for improvement, but now feel that I cannot delay any longer. I do still hope things improve as there are positive aspects to the home.... a new chef, in post this year is bringing about positive change
to the menu for example, but I have recently had to raise concerns about staffing levels, and multiple issues that boil down to poor communication.
I do feel that there is an intention to improve, and on the whole Mum is happy, but much of that is down to my proximity to the home and therefore her daily contact with me.
Recently there have been more agency staff in the building at nights and on one night in particular only one person in the building was actually based at HH. I was disappointed not to see management stepping in in that situation.
There are carers who care... this home could be so much better but it needs major improvement in systems, communication and management

Reply from Charlie Parker, Home Manager at Haxby Hall Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and for your patience as we work to make ongoing improvements. Your input is incredibly valuable to us, helping us identify areas where we can improve. We're delighted to hear that you've noticed positive changes, particularly with the new chef and the improvements to the menu. We understand the importance of consistent staffing and are actively working to strengthen our team and improve communication throughout the home. Please know that we remain committed to making the necessary changes and truly appreciate your continued support. We're pleased to hear that, despite the challenges, your mum is happy. We will continue striving to uphold a high standard of care and look forward to demonstrating further progress in the coming months. Your ongoing feedback is always welcome.

My Dad went into mere hall from Dec 2024 - Feb 2025 for the last 7 weeks of his life. Managers seniors, health care assistants, domestic team, laundry, activity's staff, cooks, maintenance are utterly amazing in their own ways. Everyone showed care, compassion & dignity to him, from popping in to say
a simple good morning or just to ask how he was. The care itself is second to none, Towards the end of his life we always knew & said we would be their until the end, Mere Hall gave me & my daughter the chance to be by his side for the last 48 hours until he sadly passed away. As Family we felt welcomed, supported, guided & well looked after, with no pressure to leave. We can not thank the staff at Mere Hall enough for all the care, compassion & understanding that they provided. Each went above & beyond not just for my dad but for us to. The home itself is beautiful with a real home from home feel, clean warm, comforting with a care family that make a difference to all, Thank you.

Since my husband has been in I have seen an improvement in him. Doing more than when he was home. Staff are absolutely great also management they always have time for you very supportive.
My only gripe is the laundry; one jumper ruined and laundry seems to take forever to come back. I am now taking
his jumpers home to wash. You obviously need more machines to cope with so much washing.

My little Mum had 5 weeks of Respite in Haxby Hall and the whole team was just fantastic! The manager, was so supportive of our situation and just so real, there is nothing pretentious about this place or the lovely staff. All of them genuinely cared about us and when mum was really poorly and confused
they were so gentle and sincere in the way they cared for her, lovely, solid, kind, funny, experienced team of first class staff. (only thing I would ever change is the noise in the corridors from the call bell and maybe get some dementia friendly tv remotes)- Cannot thank them enough for being the best.

Horsforth Manor Care Home

My mother-in law moved into Horsforth Manor Care Home a few weeks ago, and we are so pleased at the difference this has made to her life. We have nothing but praise for the staff at the home who have made her so welcome. The staff are hard working, organised, caring and proactive. They pay attention
to the small details, which mean so much to an elderly resident. The staff make time to chat to the residents and really get to know them.
An outstanding feature of Horsforth Manor, is the programme of daily activities. Every day, residents are encouraged to join in fun activities and games such as bingo, quizes, art classes and local walks, which encourage stimulation, exercise, laughter and friendship. Over Christmas and during the weeks since then, there have been numerous social occasions and events for residents and their families to enjoy, and the weekly coffee morning is a highlight for many.

Horsforth Manor is more than a care home; it is a family. From the luxurious, elegant décor to the warm, compassionate staff, everything exudes care. My mum moved there in February 2024, and despite her dementia, the staff's dedication helped her settle. They patiently nurtured her, encouraging her
to participate in activities such as trips out, meals, Elvis singalongs, dancing, coffee mornings, and pub nights. Families are always welcome, creating a strong community. They made amazing afternoon teas for Mum to enjoy with friends. Sadly, Mum passed away in February 2025. During that difficult time, the staff were our rock, providing exceptional care for Mum and support for us, so we could be with her during her final days. From the cleaning team to management, everyone showed genuine love and compassion. Choosing Horsforth Manor was one of our best decisions. They enriched Mum's life and gave us peace of mind. I highly recommend them-they're a shining example of compassionate care.

Lindsey Hall Care Home

from Amanda L (Daughter of Resident) published on 27 February 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mum was resident at Lindsey Hall for a period of time until sadly she passed away. Our reason for choosing Lindsey Hall was due to being impressed with how it felt when it first opened and we were able to look around.
Mum became unwell following a fall and although she wanted to be at home, this
wasn't a possibility due to her level of need. We chose Lindsey Hall because she remembered how she liked it and from meeting with staff I knew that it could give her the level of care that she needed. From the first day that Mum arrived, the staff were kind and helpful. They looked after Mum with respect and professionalism and it always felt that nothing was too much trouble. Although Mum wasn't keen on the activities at times, I observed the activities to be well thought out, and very enjoyable. Not only did the staff care for Mum, but they cared for us as a family. We felt supported right through to the end.

Since my friend moved in the care of Haxby hall she has received amazing care in the most wonderful surroundings. The team have been amazing. A very big shout out to one of the staff members, who has encouraged my spirited friend to socialise more and leave her room to help her mental health. Another
staff member has also been very caring and helpful when my friend has needed support. Tea is a favourite of my friend and she reliably tells me the ladies do a very good job of it. 100% recommended to others .

This was my husband's second time for respite care. He was welcomed back so warmly and kindly and settled in quickly. The surroundings are beautiful, the staff are kind, caring and efficient. From the minute you walk in, to be greeted by the lady on reception, to the managers, the carers, the chef/cook,
just everybody. You know that this is a good place and you can leave your loved one in safe hands. The fact that this was my husband's second respite stay at Haxby Hall and has already agreed to a third when I need a break, says it all.

There needs to be a system for providing dishwasher clean mugs in the sitting room. Currently they are being washed in a hap hazard way. There is washing up liquid and no brush to wash up with. It is therefore now an infection control issue. There should be somewhere to collect dirty mugs so they are
not reused. Also there are no teaspoons. I am aware they seem to disappear in care environments. However they need replacing otherwise burns are a risk when taking teabags out of mugs.

Horsforth Manor Care Home

from Giovanna R (Niece of Resident) published on 5 February 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5

My aunt was a fee paying resident at Horsforth Manor Care Home from October 2023 to April 2024. Initially she was situated on the first floor which seemed to be designated for residents with early dementia who did not require too much assistance. Unfortunately, there were no other residents on this
floor at that time and she was isolated apart from at mealtimes and the odd activity. She was moved to the top floor and was able to spend time amongst other residents which was better for her, but she required less care than most of them and was often neglected in terms of staff not ensuring she changed her clothing daily and showered. On several occasions there were no staff in the communal room on her floor. Most staff were very competent and caring but some were belligerent when issues were raised and one was downright insolent, I reported her twice but never received an apology. I wrote to the owners of the home with a catalogue of complaints but they didn't have the decency to reply.

Reply from Emma Littlewood, Area Manager at Horsforth Manor Care Home

We are sorry you were not happy with your Aunts experience of Horsforth Manor last year. The Home was very new at that time and the staffing levels have increased since then, as our resident numbers have increased. The team member you have referenced is no longer in employment at the Home. Regarding a complaint to the Home owners, this has not been received otherwise a response would have been provided. The company prides itself on its openness and takes all complaints very seriously. If you wish to discuss this further please do not hesitate to reach out to the team.

The entertainment for the residents is something I've never seen before within a residential home, spirits are high and its nice to see the smiles
on the residents faces. Always greeted and positivity when you walk through the door. Keep up the great work.

Our amazing mum and our dad moved into Horsforth Manor Care Home December 2023. We sadly lost our dad in March 2024.
Dad loved Horsforth Manor and as independent as he was he knew that it was definitely the perfect place for him and mum to be cared for.
Mum has really settled into Horsforth Manor.
I honestly can't imagine her being anywhere better! Although she is grieving she is living her best life. As a family we spend lots of time at The Manor, because it's our 2nd home. We love the amazing team who go above and beyond with all the events, stimulation, and standards of care, I cannot thank the team enough for making our mum so happy and enabling us to make the best memories.
