Mere Hall Care Home

from Simon T (Son of Resident) published on 10 April 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

This Care home is excellent. It is well staffed and well managed. The food is good. It caters well for residents who have various stages of Dementia and end of life care too. My Mother has been there for nearly 4 years and it has been a difficult journey at times but Mere Hall has provided lots
of help and I personally do not think I could have found a better place for Mum. Like all organisations things can sometimes not work, but Mere hall always tries to sort out any issues promptly and sensibly. They have coped with Covid and other issues of a similar nature really well and have a positive attitude to staff recruitment and retention, which is important in the care industry. If you are looking for a care home in this area I would not hesitate to suggest a visit.

Haxby Hall Care Home

from Janice F (Daughter of Resident) published on 9 April 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My dad recently spent 2 weeks at Haxby Hall on respite. The managers did a home visit which was very reassuring. They found out about him and what he liked. They assured him he wouldn't have to do anything he didn't want to. I had a meal in Restaurant to help settle my dad in which was appreciated.
Unfortunately he decided to stay very much in his room not being much of a mixer. This was a shame as there seems to be a lot going on but that was very much his choice.

The surroundings are lovely - we enjoyed sitting in the Sky Bar and also made use of one of the lounges to play dominoes and watch TV which my dad enjoyed. The carers and staff were always very kind and helpful and happy to go the extra mile if they could. The manager was very approachable and always quick to respond to enquiries and resolve any issues.

A small downside is that messages don't always get through. It took a few phone calls to make sure Dad had a haircut! Overall, a good experience!

The home is very warm + comfortable, efficient at dealing with concerns + problems. However one problem that has occurred recently is my dad has been caught kissing a couple of ladies initially they said we would have to another home but things have been put in place now but unfortunately each time
it happens we have to get 1-1 care for him 24hrs a day at first it was for 1 month which cost us £20,000 a couple of times since it has been only a week or so.

Excellent care, lovely room and surroundings. Made Mum very very as she was reluctant to go for respite care, she has now decided to stay permanently in Haxby Hall and is very happy. The staff are lovely and very caring and look after her so well.
She has been told she can bring her own things from
home which she thinks is great. Haxby Hall is like a 5* hotel with lots of activities to stimulate her and make new friends.

Just to say we are so grateful to Lyndsey Hall for their incredible care and kindness shown to our mum. Initially she did not want to go into a nursing home, but within a few months the kindness shown by the staff, the professional care and the fun activities gave her a new sense of joy in her final
chapter of life. She was busy doing drawing classes, yoga, choir , aerobics etc ..Lyndsey Hall gave her the privacy & dignity she deserved at the end of her life .
It is testament to the overwhelming support and care she got, above all the kindness shown to her. Thank you from all our family .

Sleaford Manor Care Homes

from M T (Son of Resident) published on 1 April 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mother went to Sleaford Manor initially for respite care. She has subsequently decided to stay and become a permanent resident, which rather speaks for itself. She feels safe, well looked after and has all the support she needs in a very comfortable room. The staff are an ideal combination of
highly professional and friendly. All her medical needs are met through the visiting GP and the district nurse.
My own impressions as a visitor are very favourable. The ambience is more that of a top quality hotel than what I had previously imagined a care home to be like. The facilities are modern and purpose built with attractive lounges, private dining rooms, a hair salon, accessible outside space and even a cinema room. The rooms are bright, spacious and well equipped. I have found the staff, from reception through to the manager, very pleasant to deal with and always willing to help, especially the senior care staff who are all very experienced and have provided great support.

Mum went into Steaford Manor for respite care.
She was made to feel very welcome as soon as she arrived and we have found that the home has done everything to meet her needs. The staff are lovely and we cannot praise them enough. For someone who didn't really want to go into a home, she has settled
well and seems to be enjoying her break. Thank you, Sleaford Manor!

Lindsey Hall Care Home

from Christopher W (Son of Resident) published on 1 April 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Lindsey Hall is a truly excellent Care Home. My mother was initially reluctant to move from her own home. After a short period of adjustment she came to absolutely love Lindsey. She loved the staff and the care, support and interest they always showed her. She loved the wide range of activities
which were offered. She loved her room, with its big windows and the view on the garden. She loved the spacious corridors and The Street. She loved the fact she was allowed to bring in her piano and played it daily. She loved the flexibility of the management, allowing her to go out for long walks and enjoy the fresh air. She truly came to see Lindsey Hall as 'home', correcting me once when I stated her previous address was 'home', since the account was still in that name. My home is Lindsey Hall she declared. Having resisted moving in, she did once confide that she wished she had moved earlier. As she faded in her last few weeks, the staff were brilliant in every way.

Mere Hall Care Home

My Uncle chose this care home after his wife died. They have looked after him excellently as he deteriorated quickly and ended up needed a vast amount of personal care.
They gave him a wonderful birthday party in December and took him to the pub with the other men. He ended up in hospital and the
care at the hospital was nothing like he was getting at the home. When it was realised he would not get any better he was transferred back to the home. If it had not been for the staff working hard to get him back I think he would not have been here now.
The staff all care for the residents that is from the cleaning staff, kitchen staff, care staff up to the managers.
They are proactive in making a difference for the residence at all times.
They Value their dignity and they are treated with respect at all times.

Mum moved to the Dementia floor (Haven) at Horsforth Manor in February 2024, and hand on heart I can say she had the best year. The staff understood her needs from the outset. They provided her with a healthy routine, brilliant care, good food, a great mix of activities and most of all friendship. She
was soon much less anxious, her mood and memory improved dramatically. I can't believe how quickly she settled.
There is a fantastic amount of weekly and themed activities to join in with, and family and friends are encouraged to support the events and made very welcomed. An Advent Calendar of events this Christmas certainly gave us lots of lovely memories. So much thought and effort was put in by the whole team.
When mum got poorly the staff couldn't do enough to support her and the family. Having been encouraged to discuss her end of life wishes, before she became poorly, it became a fundamental part of the care she received and for that I can't thank the team enough.

As a family we were very anxious about putting mum into the home having had a bad experience elsewhere. However I can say one hundred per cent that we never looked back about our decision of choosing Westfield Park. The home is beautiful, the staff so very caring and professional. Mum went in for
respite for a couple of weeks and in that time we could not believe how she changed, going back to being more alert due to the attention and company she received. Just to look at her we could see how well she was being cared for and mum herself had nothing but compliments for the lovely staff.
As a family we felt so at ease with someone else having responsibility 24/7 but it was the standard of care and seeing mum thrive so well that made it all worthwhile. Even we could not compete!
The food was also top quality and lots of activities going on. Everywhere was spotlessly clean.
A big thank you to everyone that made mums visit a success.

This updates a review that I wrote last August. I've been delaying a further review to allow time for improvement, but now feel that I cannot delay any longer. I do still hope things improve as there are positive aspects to the home.... a new chef, in post this year is bringing about positive change
to the menu for example, but I have recently had to raise concerns about staffing levels, and multiple issues that boil down to poor communication.
I do feel that there is an intention to improve, and on the whole Mum is happy, but much of that is down to my proximity to the home and therefore her daily contact with me.
Recently there have been more agency staff in the building at nights and on one night in particular only one person in the building was actually based at HH. I was disappointed not to see management stepping in in that situation.
There are carers who care... this home could be so much better but it needs major improvement in systems, communication and management

Reply from Charlie Parker, Home Manager at Haxby Hall Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and for your patience as we work to make ongoing improvements. Your input is incredibly valuable to us, helping us identify areas where we can improve. We're delighted to hear that you've noticed positive changes, particularly with the new chef and the improvements to the menu. We understand the importance of consistent staffing and are actively working to strengthen our team and improve communication throughout the home. Please know that we remain committed to making the necessary changes and truly appreciate your continued support. We're pleased to hear that, despite the challenges, your mum is happy. We will continue striving to uphold a high standard of care and look forward to demonstrating further progress in the coming months. Your ongoing feedback is always welcome.

My Dad went into mere hall from Dec 2024 - Feb 2025 for the last 7 weeks of his life. Managers seniors, health care assistants, domestic team, laundry, activity's staff, cooks, maintenance are utterly amazing in their own ways. Everyone showed care, compassion & dignity to him, from popping in to say
a simple good morning or just to ask how he was. The care itself is second to none, Towards the end of his life we always knew & said we would be their until the end, Mere Hall gave me & my daughter the chance to be by his side for the last 48 hours until he sadly passed away. As Family we felt welcomed, supported, guided & well looked after, with no pressure to leave. We can not thank the staff at Mere Hall enough for all the care, compassion & understanding that they provided. Each went above & beyond not just for my dad but for us to. The home itself is beautiful with a real home from home feel, clean warm, comforting with a care family that make a difference to all, Thank you.

Since my husband has been in I have seen an improvement in him. Doing more than when he was home. Staff are absolutely great also management they always have time for you very supportive.
My only gripe is the laundry; one jumper ruined and laundry seems to take forever to come back. I am now taking
his jumpers home to wash. You obviously need more machines to cope with so much washing.

My little Mum had 5 weeks of Respite in Haxby Hall and the whole team was just fantastic! The manager, was so supportive of our situation and just so real, there is nothing pretentious about this place or the lovely staff. All of them genuinely cared about us and when mum was really poorly and confused
they were so gentle and sincere in the way they cared for her, lovely, solid, kind, funny, experienced team of first class staff. (only thing I would ever change is the noise in the corridors from the call bell and maybe get some dementia friendly tv remotes)- Cannot thank them enough for being the best.

My mother-in law moved into Horsforth Manor Care Home a few weeks ago, and we are so pleased at the difference this has made to her life. We have nothing but praise for the staff at the home who have made her so welcome. The staff are hard working, organised, caring and proactive. They pay attention
to the small details, which mean so much to an elderly resident. The staff make time to chat to the residents and really get to know them.
An outstanding feature of Horsforth Manor, is the programme of daily activities. Every day, residents are encouraged to join in fun activities and games such as bingo, quizes, art classes and local walks, which encourage stimulation, exercise, laughter and friendship. Over Christmas and during the weeks since then, there have been numerous social occasions and events for residents and their families to enjoy, and the weekly coffee morning is a highlight for many.

Horsforth Manor is more than a care home; it is a family. From the luxurious, elegant décor to the warm, compassionate staff, everything exudes care. My mum moved there in February 2024, and despite her dementia, the staff's dedication helped her settle. They patiently nurtured her, encouraging her
to participate in activities such as trips out, meals, Elvis singalongs, dancing, coffee mornings, and pub nights. Families are always welcome, creating a strong community. They made amazing afternoon teas for Mum to enjoy with friends. Sadly, Mum passed away in February 2025. During that difficult time, the staff were our rock, providing exceptional care for Mum and support for us, so we could be with her during her final days. From the cleaning team to management, everyone showed genuine love and compassion. Choosing Horsforth Manor was one of our best decisions. They enriched Mum's life and gave us peace of mind. I highly recommend them-they're a shining example of compassionate care.
