This is my first involvement with Derwent Care Home and my first impressions are all positive despite my mother in laws initial reluctance, she seems to be settling in well. The staff have all been friendly and caring and always at home. She has a comfortable airy room, good news all round.

All staff friendly and welcoming. Lovely cake with morning tea. No Activities taking place. Hundreds of cigarette ends strewn in the residents garden, presumably left by night staff. Wheelchairs dirty and in much need of a thorough clean.

This was the first time I sourced Respite care for my mother. I chose Derwent Care Home as it had good reviews, and a good CQC score. I also visited it prior to making my decision. The home is a good size, well maintained, and very clean. The staff are well presented, friendly and professional. I
was very nervous at first, but after visiting, and speaking with the staff and residents, I knew mum would be well taken care of, and she was.

I would just like to thank all the staff who work at Kingston Court Care Home. All the staff are so welcoming and give great care and attention and love towards my dad. Also all the staff are amazing with me. I live in East Yorkshire. When I can't be in to visit Dad, I ring the home every day to ask
how he is. They tell me and then tell my dad I have rung. So thank you all so very much for everything that you do. xxxx

My wife and I have made approximately ten visits, during which we have encountered many different members of staff. Without a single exception, they have been very kind, helpful and empathetic. For example, on our very first visit, we were shown how to sign in and then we were escorted to the door of
the resident's room as opposed to being told where it was (which would have been OK but this was taking extra care of us). The staff seem genuinely happy to be working there and nothing is too much trouble, even when they're busy. The building is very well maintained and the ambience is very pleasant indeed, especially the quiet coffee corner. Inevitably, car parking is a nightmare but we quickly learned that leaving the car on Newtown Road or Granville Road is a good option and a very short walk. In summary, probably the best place of its type that we have ever known.

I cannot speak highly enough of Riverwell Beck. The overwhelming positive is the staff who have looked after mum so well and treat her with dignity and respect. They are so friendly and mum loves them all (she calls them 'the girls'). It's the little things that I notice such as getting her a pair of
slip on shoes when she was struggling with trainers and making sure she is always well presented and dressed. They really look after her and I am so grateful for their kindness and diligence.

My mam stayed at Holly Lodge sadly she passed away in October 2024. I can not praise the Manager and staff enough they looked after my as if she was there own Mam. Holly lodge is spotlessly clean all the staff are just amazing. They kept me informed of everything regarding my mam care as i do not live
in Shildon. The manager is fantastic and is such a lovely person. I miss going to the home and seeing everyone. One last thing my Mam really loved living at Holly Lodge. Thanks for all your hard work.

My mum has been in Derwent Care Home for about 4 years. Since an unsettle period last year with staff and management changes things have greatly improved. The moral in the staff team appears to have picked up and there is a brilliant care team, and the atmosphere in the home and relationships with residents,
staff and family are lovely. The staff know my mam really well support my dad and me so much. I am kept informed and my requests are always dealt with effectively and timely. The home environment is always clean and safe. The activities have been brilliant especially the singers brought in. Hopefully this will continue and other Activity Coordinator will be appointed soon.

I visit the home nearly everyday to see my mother in law. I cannot tell you how happy and content she is, she absolutely loves it. The staff are wonderful, and she is often in awe of the care and attention she gets. I never worry when I leave her as I know she is safe and happy. The home is always very
clean and tidy as are the staff. They make her any food she wants as she is a very fussy eater, however, it is sometimes not hot enough for her. She would go mad if she knew I was writing this. She is no bother and never complains. Thank you all.

The carer and attention my dad has received over the last few months in particular from the warm friendly staff at Derwent Care Home has literally brought him back to life. After a time in hospital we thought he only had a matter of weeks but thankfully that has not been the case, and whilst his dementia
is worsening he is brighter and seems content that I can only be down to the care he has received. Thank you.

On the day my Uncle died, staff "forgot" to inform his GP and for 2 whole weeks because of this his death wasn't able to be registered. I expected the manager to write or ring me to apologise for this horrendous error but she never once tried to contact me. A week later i rang the home to be told the
manager was in a meeting and would I speak to someone else. I said no thank you I would like to talk to her. The staff member told her what I had said so she sent a message back saying she would ring me after the meeting. To this day and its now weeks later she has not contacted me! To be manager of a "care" home and lack any conscience or compassion just beggars belief. Sorry Briardene, I sang your praises until this happened!

From coming into the care home my husband has settled really well, staff are very friendly. They provide excellent care and support. He enjoys the activities, taking part in things he enjoys. The food is excellent. Staff treat my husband with dignity and respect and enjoy his sense of humour. Clean

Unfortunately my father-in-law was unable to continue looking after himself in his own home. We visited Riverwell Beck and knew instantly that it would be suitable for him. As with some elderly people, he was reluctant to leave his own home. However, after several weeks at Riverwell Beck he is settling
in very well and has said he likes it there and that he gets very well looked after. Which is reassuring for his family. He is treated in a caring and respectful manner by all. The staff are efficient, caring and respectful. I would certainly recommend Riverwell Beck.
