My family member only had a short stay here but I found the team working there to be really caring and engaging. After moving from another home due to lack of communication I can say it was much better at St Luke's Nursing Home and grateful to them for the care provided.

Reply from Rebecca Blackburn, Manager at St Luke's Nursing Home

Hi Emma, thank you for your lovely review I will share with the team. It was a pleasure to support the resident and your family. We really pride ourselves in caring for everybody who comes to St Lukes and joins our family.

Mum is happy and generally well looked after, there are issues with her personal hygiene that cause me concern. Her nails remain uncut and have a lot of dirt under them. She is bed-bound so it is a little difficult to shower her, but it should be more often. She is also having protracted treatment for
hearing problems. One of her hearing aids was lost at the home some time ago, but until she successfully has her ears cleared we cannot progress with getting new aids for her. This makes communication difficult for everyone and increases Mum's isolation. The staff are generally great at the home and Mum enjoys a friendly interaction with them, but attention to detail (personal hygiene) is a bit lax. Her room is warm and clean and her clothes are cleaned and ironed regularly.

Very friendly reception, helped me enter and escorted me to my friend who was relaxing in the lounge. My immediate impression from entering the building, I felt quite welcomed and the ambience was warm calm and inviting. Residents and staff were very friendly and courteous. I will be visiting again
soon, it was a really good experience. I would readily advise people to visit. Thank you.

Although Mum is struggling to settle (due to dementia) I am very happy with how she is being cared for. Mum always looks presentable and her appetite is slowly returning, she is eating her meals and has gained a little weight since arriving 12 weeks ago. Overall I am very pleased with St. Luke's and
would recommend.

The old staff that is leaving in tears of sadness are excellent - not medical staff, just care staff. Too many agency staff. Would I put anyone close at St Luke's? No. Too cold and unfriendly with agency staff. My husband was sent to a care organisation a few times. His room was left, on his last time
his room was completely emptied and when I got to the hospice, all and I mean everything was dumped in his hospice room in black bags. Even the charity worker was shocked when his room was still being funded. I felt this is unacceptable. The new medical staff seemed a lot better but I didn't leave my husband in like before.

St Luke's Nursing Home

from Angela R (Wife of Resident) published on 14 May 2024

As soon as I visited St Luke’s, I knew this nursing home was the right place for my husband. Every member of the team treated him as an individual, helping to preserve his dignity during his time there.
It’s a small home on one floor with lovely gardens. A GP practice is next door. They visit weekly
as does a hairdresser/beautician. A chiropodist and opticians visit occasionally.
We made my husband's room a home-from-home. The food is mostly home-cooked. Unlike when my Mum was in a care home, his possessions did not 'go walking', his clothes were cleaned and returned with care as if he was home with me.
The tenderness and sensitivity shown to my husband in the last days of his life is something I will never forget. Special credit to the night team members who made sure he was not alone while I came home to grab a bit of sleep.
Knowing the team was all there for him and me, and our family at the end brings me great comfort. I'm truly thankful and forever grateful for that.

I cannot thank St Luke's enough for the care they gave to my mother in her final weeks. St Luke's were never too busy to talk to us and to provide us with updates. We live in Cyprus and could not travel in her last weeks but the care Mum received was superb. All the staff were friendly and cheerful,
which was just what we needed on days when we were feeling the guilt of not being able to travel. They were always professional and nothing has ever been too much trouble for them. They cared for her like anyone would care for their own mother. Since Mum died and we have still been unable to travel, they have taken on the responsibility of getting Death Certificates and getting this to the right people and being a shoulder for us to lean on when we needed it most. Long or short-term care, anyone would be lucky to be in the compassionate and tender care of the staff at St Luke's. Special thanks to the manager and another specific staff member.

Hi Jason. Thank you for your lovely comments, I will share them with the team. It was a privilege to support your mum and you, as we all understood how difficult it was for you being so far away. We always say at St Luke's it is a family and we show everybody who walks through the door the same care and compassion as we would a family member.

St Luke's Nursing Home

from Glen M (Son of Resident) published on 4 January 2024

Mum initially came into St Luke’s for respite care in late August 2023. Mum has dementia and a number of physical heath issues. Mum has been on and off end of life care, with her medical condition. Care was previously provided at home 24/7 by myself, sister and external carers. Since entering St Luke’s,
Mum’s health has stabilised. This has given us tremendous peace of mind. The care she receives is exemplary and it provides a real home from home environment. We feel we can now spend quality time with Mum, without worrying about caring responsibilities. The true test is the ‘feel’ you get from being in St Luke’s, which is both friendly, caring and professional. We particularly like that the nursing home is relatively small and all accommodation is on the ground floor. It is well served by the GP practice next door, which carry out weekly visits. It also provides an on site hair dressing / beauty treatment once a week. We feel very lucky that Mum has a place here.

St Luke's is an outstanding home. My grandma has been here nearly a year now, and she hasn't been happier. Never complains about being in pain anymore like she used to at her home. All the staff are so friendly and polite and put lots of effort into my grandma. They are always doing things for events,
Halloween, etc, playing games and making sure all the residents are as happy as they can be. Very happy with the service.

To be honest, this care home is great.
Nice staff and management, but I have concerns about if one of the residents press their buzzer, it takes a while for them to see to it, and unfortunately, some can't wait, so accidents happen. The food, especially in the afternoons at 4.30, tea is repetitive,
they get offered - soup or a sandwich! I don't know what they get later, but not a lot from what I know. Not enough staff to cope, plus the tea trolley does not come around, so misses. I take things in like carton juice and shower gel - all the things that I thought would be supplied?

My mother-in-law has been in St Luke’s now for 8 weeks and is a permanent resident. During the time she has been there, we have found each and every one of the staff to be friendly, kind, caring and professional. They are like an extended family to my mother-in-law and treat her with kindness and respect.
Nothing is too much trouble for them, and they have also been a great support to myself and my husband. My mother-in-law is very happy here. I would definitely recommend St Luke’s to anyone whose relative needs to go into a nursing home. Thank you all at St Luke’s; you are amazing.

My dad lived at St Luke's for 9-months from his discharge from hospital following his stroke through to the day he passed away. I cannot recommend the St Luke's team highly enough for their professionalism, compassion and understanding during a very difficult time for us all. It's a small home with
a team that takes the utmost care in looking after the residents and building relationships with them, no matter their background or care needs. My dad was treated with kindness and dignity and received the highest levels of care and attention during his time there. Simply outstanding - thank you, St Luke's team.
