I would like to leave this review on behalf of myself and all my family.
My fathers stay at Abbey Lea was a liitle short but the care he received in that time was excellent.
His care was so warming and genuine this was also extended to all family members.
The home is extremely clean and well kept,
the food is home cooked and served with love.
The personal care my father received was exceptional...thank you.
The Management team are also exceptional they deal with you as a famiy that they do actually care about, they go above a beyond to be there for you throughout the journey of your loved one who is in their care.
We heartfelt can not thank you ALL enough at Abbey Lea.

Westwood took Mum with no notice as an emergency placement in March 2024. It was during a very stressful time for Mum and the family. The staff were fantastic in helping Mum to settle in her totally new environment and Mum enjoyed the stimulation of staff and making new friends. The staff are so patient
letting Mum help with cleaning, tidying and other household tasks! These kind interactions have helped Mum to develop lovely bonds with the staff improving Mum's communication and reducing her stress and anxiety. Nothing is ever too much trouble. Residents are given food and drink on an individual basis, when required, such as sleeping late. Mum also enjoys lunch and supper eating with her friends. The home is flexible and works around family requests, nothing is too much trouble. I am grateful for everything they patiently do (or not do, if Mum chooses!) as she is as happy and content as she can be at Westwood. I always feel welcome when visiting. It's a lovely caring home.

Reply from Helen Thompson, Director at Westwood

Thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing your experience with Westwood Care Home. It was our privilege to welcome your mum during such a difficult time and it has been wonderful to see her settle in the home with other residents, developing friendships and a strong bond with the care team. It is reassuring to hear that you feel welcome whenever you visit - supporting families of residents is also a key focus for us. Thank you for trusting us with your Mum's care and for giving such positive feedback in support of our care home.

First-class care is always given to my mum. All the staff are kind, caring and show compassion towards the residents. Mum is very content at Abbey Lea, all her needs at met, they go over and above to support mum. Her room is always clean, comfortable and warm. There are always activities which are adapted
for Mum as she is constantly in bed. The food menu always has a good selection of choice.
The home is very welcoming to relatives/visitors and the staff keep the relatives updated if they have any concerns. Nothing is ever a problem at any time day or night. I would definitely recommend Abbey Lea to anyone.
Definitely the best care home in the area. 5-star plus.

My Mum has been a resident in Westwood Care Home since January 2020. The care she has received in that time has been excellent, during COVID I had no concerns as I was regularly updated by the manager. The food is always excellent and well planned with plenty of variety. There is always regular entertainment
for the residents with residents families encouraged to attend. Residents' families are always made welcome by the staff, a legacy from the previous manager who was the manager of the home for 21 years. Some of the staff go above and beyond in their care for every resident. The home is badly in need of the decor updating, but the care is the most important thing and I would recommend Westwood Care Home to anybody.

Reply from Helen Thompson, Director at Westwood

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about Westwood Care Home. We appreciate your positive feedback on our staff, who are dedicated to going above and beyond in their roles, the quality of our meals, and the range of activities we provide. Thank you for recognising our team and the welcoming environment we strive to create for residents and their families. We understand your concerns about decor, and agree that some areas are in need of updating. Financial recovery following Covid took time, and for the past two years we have been upgrading the building infrastructure and replacing essential equipment. Redecorating the home remains a priority and will be undertaken as soon as possible as part of our ongoing improvement plan. We are committed to maintaining the high standard of care that is at the heart of everything we do, and to making Westwood a warm and welcoming home for all residents and their families. Thank you for your continued support!

Abbey Lea Care Home has a reputation locally of being one of the best care homes in the area. There is a friendly, caring atmosphere and staff support the residents and families visiting. The activities available are wide from fitness classes, animals visiting, bingo, music etc. to celebrating birthdays
etc. My relative's room was immaculate, warm and homely. She was very happy there. Visitors are warmly welcomed and given space to meet up. All staff are professional and ensure safety and individual's needs are met. The manager is very approachable.

My mother is a resident at Abbey Lea and I live far away so am unable to visit her frequently. I didn't really want her to be in a care home so was very apprehensive the first time I visited her. To my absolute delight, she was thriving there. She was happy, safe and joining in all the great activities
they have daily. This was a complete 180 from when she was living alone as she was so depressed, confused and isolated. The staff there are all so dedicated to their jobs and genuinely care about each and every resident so it really is more like a big family. All of the staff including management interact positively with the residents every day and are always finding ways to make Abbey Lea as warm, happy and homely as it can be. I would not want my loved one to be anywhere else and I know she wouldn't either. It really is a lovely place. Well done to all.

My very good friend's dementia took hold quite rapidly and despite being confused with his new living situation, he warmed to the staff at Abbey Lea immediately as they helped him to settle into his new home. We both found the whole care team, including management, to be very helpful, understanding
and kind. It can be a rare thing to find kindness and care wrapped up in professionalism and humility. Abbey Lea very quickly began to know my friend well; his likes and dislikes, his sense of humour, his love of nature and being outdoors, his favourite foods (cooking all homemade) and which tipple he likes at a party! They have many activities on offer throughout the year and always try to think about what all the residents might enjoy. I have seen the staff first-hand encouraging residents to socialise with one another and also take the time to sit and chat with them. It makes me happy to know that my friend is well cared for and as happy as he can be at Abbey Lea. Thank you all.

My great auntie spent 7.5 years at Westwood Care Home. The staff were always very happy, friendly, professional and caring. The staff treated my aunt like family and were very welcoming when we visited. There is a very welcoming feeling to the home. Unfortunately, we lost my aunt, and the staff were
nothing but amazing with her from start to finish. I will be forever grateful for everything they did, not just for my aunt but for her family too. Highly recommend Westwood Care Home.

Both my parents have been living in Westwood Care Home since the summer.
Dad was admitted first and settled extremely quickly. At home, prior to moving into Westwood, he would spend most days sleeping. He suffers from dementia and therefore now requires around-the-clock care. Dad’s quality of life
has vastly improved. It is very rare to see him sleeping and his mobility has improved significantly. The meals in Westwood are made to suit each resident’s needs and Dad has always loved his food. He is very happy and always smiling. The staff have been amazing with his care.
Mum suffered a nasty fall and was left unable to walk when admitted to Westwood. After leaving hospital she had practically given up on life. She wasn’t eating and was mentally and physically in a bad place. Her turnaround has been remarkable. The staff have encouraged her to eat and she is now much stronger. She is happy and comfortable within her new surroundings.
I could not ask for more. Thank you to everyone.

At Westwood, all the staff are really professional, caring and dedicated to making the resident's lives as easy, interesting and comfortable as possible. They all go the extra mile to make sure that everyone is looked after and that nothing is too much trouble even in difficult circumstances.
The
food is well cooked and delicious with a varied choice.
The decor is a bit dated in the public areas and some of the rooms but they seem to be doing them up as and when possible.
I would definitely recommend Westwood to anyone looking for compassionate and caring staff.

that could do with attention is the overall decor in rooms and shared areas.

My father was a resident at Abbey Lea from October 2018 until he passed in July 2023. It was difficult for both my dad and us, as family members, to adjust to him going into care. However, Abbey Lea has created a team that provides a compassionate, supportive, respectful and very reassuring caring role.
Information on Dad was requested to enable the carers to have conversations relative to my dad's background in an attempt to keep some memories active, and efforts were made to play music which he would recognise and engage in. Confidence was instilled when I visited, seeing how my dad responded to the team members and how he could forget so much but never to smile. I am so very appreciative that this is where my dad spent his final five years.

It's only been a few days that my dad has been here, but so far everything has been excellent. The staff have been so good with my dad and us. We have really struggled with the decision that he needs more care than we can give him and they understand this. So far everything is very positive and my dad
is happy.
