They communicate well regarding any issues. I like the relaxed atmosphere in Homelea and the attention given to residents when they need it. The day rooms are bright and well furnished with TV programmes to watch should they want to. Communications are good and the staff are very helpful and kind. I
know they have activities but have been there for only one - Hogmond - most enjoyable those who joined in.

Holmlea Care Home welcomed my Mam last year, and I couldn't be more grateful for the care she receives. We struggled to manage her needs at home, but the staff at Holmlea have been exceptional in handling her challenging behaviors with professionalism and compassion.
The team at Holmlea has created
a safe and comfortable environment for my Mam, which brings me immense peace of mind. Seeing her happy and well-cared-for is a testament to the dedication and expertise of the staff.
I highly recommend Holmlea Care Home to anyone seeking quality care for their loved ones.

My auntie has been a resident at Holmlea for over two years. Whenever I visit with my family, we always have a warm welcome from the wonderful team of carers. I live over 100 miles away and so can't visit every week. I take comfort in the knowledge of the consistent high standard of care that I witness
when I am able to visit. Thank you Holmlea.

My aunt has been a resident at the home for around eight weeks The staff cares about the welfare of the residents. My aunt, as a fiercely independent lady who has lived on her own for over forty years has been, at times, both grumpy and difficult. At all times staff has treated her with patience, good
humour, politeness, and professionalism.
Everyone is also very welcoming to visitors making them feel part of the family member's new life. Massive thank you to all.

I visit Northlands Nursing Home once a month to do a communion service. I have between six to thirteen residents at a time. I sometimes visit at other times. In my experience, the staff are always friendly and engaging with me. The residents always look happy, well cared for and dressed appropriately.
The staff always treat residents, family and friends with respect at all times.

The Chesters Care Home

We had to find my mum a care home at short notice in May 2023. From the minute we met the manager and the team, the care for my mum was first class, professional in every respect and delivered with warmth and consideration.
It's a huge transition moving from independent living to a care home and naturally,
my mum had some ups and downs along the way. But the team looked after her and showed great empathy, allowing her to quickly settle into a regular happy routine. She is so much healthier than when she first arrived and that's a huge thanks to the chef and kitchen staff who have fed her well.
Yesterday we moved Mum to another care home nearer to her family in another part of the country. Tears were shed by all and it was moving to see how much she was loved at The Chesters. We will always be grateful for the care and support that she was given. Thanks to all at The Chesters.

My father was admitted to the home in October 2023. The care provided to him and his family was excellent to date. staff work hard to understand his needs, particularly with eating and communication. A couple of minor issues were raised with the manager, dealt with quickly and efficiently. Residents
are treated as individuals with their choices being taken into account in care planning.

My husband moved into Holmlea Care Home on 04/09/23. He was well-supported in adjusting to leaving home. Some weeks later the need for hospital emergency admission. The team at Holmlea were very caring and supportive of my husband and I and our daughters. While we waited for the ambulance we were made
comfortable and offered drinks. It was my birthday (83) I'd brought a cake to share. The staff couldn't have done enough to help us.

After trying to find my dad a care home that really looked after him (been a couple) I was recommended here as I wanted a homely place for him.
I have to say this was the best decision we made for him.
Staff are friendly always give him attention and on his stubborn days know how to deal with him
in the nicest way.
Never seen agency staff which for us as a family think is a bonus as past experiences have proven major fails due to changes in staff.
I feel very welcome as I go every day never seen anything to fault this care home.

My Aunt was in Holmlea Care Home from Aril 2018 to April 2023 and received care of the highest standard. All staff were compassionate, patient and excellent at dealing with my Aunt under all circumstances. As her dementia progressed, the high standard of care and attention, both personal and medical,
never faltered and all her needs were gently and sensitively catered for. She was happy and content. We were always kept informed of her status and the management were very approachable and easy to deal with.
Myself and husband could not have wished for better and would thoroughly recommend Holmlea without hesitation to any prospective resident.

My brother became a resident at Holmlea Care Home in the summer of 2021. Since his arrival, he has been treated with dignity and respect by both care staff and the management. He suffers from vascular dementia and as his condition deteriorates every effort is made to help him feel safe and secure in
his environment. As a frequent visitor, I find it reassuring to note the positive relationships which have been fostered between my brother and his carers. There is close liaison between management and a local General Practice and this has resulted in my brother's physical and mental health being closely monitored - an important aspect of his care. He is encouraged to take part in organised activities but allowed to withdraw if he wishes. To quote my brother - they look after me well here.

I found the care and home excellent. Very helpful staff always going the extra mile to make residents and relatives comfortable and happy. The residents look very happy, safe and secure, which makes life in Northlands Nursing Home feel like a big family. The rooms are spacious, bright and clean. Plenty
of activities are carried out every day and professionals come into the home regularly. Management is present every day in the home being involved and helping all the time making herself present! I'm so happy to be part of the team and I will recommend Northlands Nursing Home with all confidence and trust!

One of the things that really impressed me was that during the recent very cold weather was that the owner personally spoke to all the residents to see if they were warm enough, and if not, he went out and got them a heater - not many owners would do that. This home is really family-orientated. The
staff are very helpful and caring.

Staffing levels are a concern to me. Most of the regular staff have been there for a long time and are welcoming and helpful. However, more recently, there are lots of unfamiliar faces about the place, and the staff look weary and rushed. Standards of cleanliness around the home have slipped a little
also. Having said that, my mum seems relatively happy and relaxed around the regular staff, who seem to work incredibly hard.

Reply from Andrew Kerr, Director at Northlands Nursing Home

Thank you for taking the time to provide a review of Northlands. I am glad that your mother is happy and relaxed with our regular staff. I can assure you that staffing levels are reviewed regularly with the manager to ensure that we maintain safe levels.
However, we are currently in the biggest crisis that I have ever seen in social care. Recruitment and retention of staff are extremely difficult leading to increased reliance on agency staff. Staff sickness levels this autumn and winter have also been at unprecedented levels with the combination of COVID, Flu and other winter viruses. To try and address these issues, we have increased pay rates by 11.7% for care staff, introduced incentives and bonuses as well as encouraged take-up of the COVID and flu boosters. I hope additional Government funding will be forthcoming in 2023 to help us find a permanent solution to the problems that are affecting the whole social care sector.
