The atmosphere is always welcoming. The staff are absolutely fantastic-so friendly, attentive, and genuinely caring. They always go above and beyond for our Auntie. The personal connections they have built with our aunt is truly appreciated. The facility is becoming more well-maintained and the environment
is also becoming more attractive. We are so grateful for the level of care and kindness my aunt receives here. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a supportive and friendly home.
I would also like to thank everyone for the positive experience the students are receiving on their work experience. This is so much appreciated.

My mum moved here in November from another care home. The change in Mum is remarkable. She has gone from being in bed most of the time at the other care home to being up and dressed, eating her meals at the table, and interacting with other residents and staff. We are very happy with Hazeldene. The
staff are always helpful and management has always addressed any concerns or worries we had regarding Mum. As a family, we would recommend Hazeldene Care Home.

My mother-in-law came to Hazeldene in November 2023.
The difference in her from her previous care home is outstanding.
She is chatty when we visit and says she’s happy there.
She plays cards and takes part in other activities, even teaching staff card games.
Her room is homely and comfortable.
Staff and management are always friendly and helpful.
As a family, we are very happy with Hazeldene and would recommend it to others.

Hazeldean is a good, safe place for our mum to stay - the previous home was a disgrace! It was distressing for Mum and us - she is 100% better here out in the lounge every day. Mum is always happy and chatty, not like before, and this is down to the care given by the helpful, friendly and caring staff,
and we are grateful for that.
Thank you, team.

I have always found the staff to be helpful and friendly. I have always been informed by the staff if the resident has been unwell or had a fall and what treatment has been done. The relative that we have is in the dementia unit, and I know that it is not easy looking after someone with this illness,
and I appreciate everything that they do.

from P B (Son of Resident) published on 8 April 2024

Our family feel that this 'care' home isn't fit to look after anyone, never mind my relative. Every time we visit something is amiss, staff are ignorant and ignore requests you make. The building is dangerous. corridors are uneven, causing the risk of falls to be high. Staff are sparse and some are
rude. On one visit the main front door had a note on it stating the lock was broken. This should have been fixed immediately as it caused a massive fire risk to residents, and visitors getting stuck in corridors between rooms behind locked doors. On our last visit a note was on the door 'We have an influenza outbreak' you should wear PPE and a face mask, none were available. We collected our relative for a family meal and they had food over their clothes. Relative had a fellow peer's medication in the room. Residents appear to be placed in a room with other residents without a choice of if they want to sit there and no activities are seen during visits. Always loud music in the lounge restricting conversation during visits.

Reply from Angela Bona, Regional Manager at Hazeldene Care Home

Thank you for your feedback. First and foremost, we wish to clarify that the review you've shared does not accurately reflect the environment and standards of care at Hazeldene. Allegations of neglect and safety issues are unfounded. We want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our residents are our highest priority. At Hazeldene Care Home, resident safety is paramount. However, it's important to note that allegations regarding staff conduct, building safety, and provision of personal protective equipment (PPE) are investigated thoroughly. Furthermore, our medication management procedures are followed diligently. We conduct regular inspections and promptly address maintenance issues to ensure a safe environment. Our lounge areas are open to residents and visitors, if privacy is needed, we can provide a quiet area. We assure you that any issues raised are taken seriously and addressed promptly. Your input is appreciated in ensuring the best possible care for our residents.

Hazeldene Care Home

from V H (Daughter of Resident) published on 13 November 2023
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5

We did not have a good experience of this care home. Our loved one was left with food all over his hands and table and face from the day before, and was unshaven and not listened to. Some staff were caring, but others behaved as if every request was a burden to their shoulders. Some staff were passive
aggressive, leaving our loved one to feel as though they were being a nuisance just to ask to go to the toilet. This led to even worse consequences. It was awful to see the degradation in my family member. We have since moved to another care home with much better results. I would honestly say that Hazeldene were neglectful.

Reply from Angela Bona, Regional Manager at Hazeldene Care Home

Thank you for your review. We acknowledge your perspective and appreciate all feedback. It is essential that all concerns and misunderstandings regarding aspects of care at Hazeldene are addressed. Also emphasising that the claim of neglectful care is strongly contested. Every effort was made to address and resolve issues raised during the resident's stay. Any concerns raised were promptly handled and discussed with the family at that time. Upon discharge there were no outstanding concerns, or safeguarding issues noted during the process. The decision to move the resident to another care home was based on a nursing needs assessment, indicating that a nursing home was required. This decision was not driven by neglect but rather by an evaluation of the resident's care requirements. Unfortunately, there are instances when a person's needs change, and they may no longer be safely cared for in a residential setting. Please feel free to contact the home to discuss further.

I would like to thank all the staff for my wife for the great afternoon and all the hard work the staff did to make her 75th birthday party a great success. A special thanks to the kitchen staff for the outstanding food and not for getting the decoration 10/10.

Lovely atmosphere at Willowbank, caring staff, a band once a month for residents and family and weekly activities.
My mum has been at Willowbank for two years. I couldn't wish for a better place. Lovely grounds where we can sit out in the summer. Her room has recently been decorated and looks much
brighter.

My mother was here, it seemed the best pick from the choice we had. It has been really poor.
Mum is not mobile so hoisted and chaired. She wasted away to 52kg so we booked a time with the manager to discuss, when asked she pulled out post-it notes with random weights on that could have been written
that day, very poor. Saw mum whilst there and she had a sore leg, nurse said it was okay (she is another story). The same evening got a call to say mum was in hospital, 2x broken ankle, and scabies. The hospital was concerned, safeguarding issue, and told mum will not be going back there, concerned how she has these injuries if immobile. The home never called to enquire after her, and when l went to empty mum's room, the nurse was in there with another lady, chatting in mum's bedroom. No staff spoke then or since. This is as brief and honest as the site permits, but l could write a book on it, sadly. We as a family are considering our next action.

Reply from Angela Bona, Regional Manager at Willowbank Care Centre

Thank you for your feedback regarding your experience at Willowbank. We sincerely apologise for any concerns or issues you encountered during your mother's stay. A safeguarding alert was investigated and closed. External NHS dieticians addressed the weight loss, and your mother was discharged from the team. This was discussed in a meeting with the manager. Our electronic care system ensures accurate records weights are inputted and cannot be altered for auditing and accountability purposes. We tried contacting the hospital and your family for updates but received no response. Once a resident is discharged, the room is reoccupied. Please be assured that we take your feedback seriously and are committed to making improvements based on your input. Once again, we are very sorry that you feel the experience did not meet your expectations. We invite you to contact us directly, as we would appreciate the opportunity to again address your concerns in a more private and personalised manner.

Due to a near-fatal stroke, which ended up with my mother suffering from vascular dementia, she had to relocate from a residential home to a home that specialised in dementia, which was Willowbank.
My mum was treated with the utmost respect and dignity by all genres of staff.
They cared for my mum
as if she was their own family. Even when Mum was being difficult at times (she was on one-to-one care), the staff still had smiles on their faces. Mum's room and clothing were kept up to hygiene standards, and myself and my siblings were always kept up to date with the daily changes of our mother's time at the home.
I visited my mum more or less every single day, even during the Covid lockdown, and I saw my mum again; she was treated with the respect and dignity that she deserved as a resident a mother, a grandmother, and most importantly, a human being.
I would recommend Willowbank, hands down, to anyone looking into permanent or respite for their loved ones.

Staff make you feel welcome and always make time to chat with both residents and family members. Staff care about the residents and do the best they can to ensure people are happy and comfortable throughout the day. If staff have had any concerns or worries about anything they ring or speak to us when
we are visiting so important information doesn't get missed. Knowing that my father-in-law is happy, settled and has good 24-hour support from people who understand both him and his needs is invaluable.

Hazeldene Care Home

from Tim H (Son of Resident) published on 13 April 2023
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

The continued care and support of mother is exemplary. Is this the best care home in the world? Well no, but for the charges the facilities are more than adequate. Recently the cleaning staff decided Mum's curtains were not in the best state, so they got new and replaced them. There is maintenance in
the building that needs attention, but some larger items have been completed in the last year (extended car park). The extra comes from the staff, not just there to provide, they generally and genuinely care. I am genuinely happy with Hazeldene Care Home and have recommended it to others who can no longer cope at home.
