My father was resident at Windsor Court for two years before he died. The staff were brilliant and managed really well in often challenging circumstances. Special mention to one staff member in particular who was always so friendly and kind. Thank you to the team for your care for my Dad.

My husband has been at Balmoral Court for 8 months. He has settled well. I visit twice weekly and he's relaxed and content. All staff, management, nursing, care, cleaners, laundry are friendly, caring, conscientious and permanent. There is a good support network from GPs, NHS, which is very encouraging.
The ward has recently been refurbished, it is light, functional and clean. The atmosphere is calm, care staff are visible at all times and alert. Bedrooms are basic but functional, cleaned regularly, fresh bed linen daily.
Hubby enjoys his food and family members can arrange to have a meal if booked in advance. Occasionally, clothing and slippers go missing but they usually turn up a day or 2 later. Anyone looking for a place for their loved one should visit - the care for dementia patients is second to none.

My mother spent the last two weeks of her life at Windsor Court. She was treated with care and respect from day one. I love the way the staff speak to the residents, with humour and affection. I could not have asked for a better place. I knew she was safe and the staff listened to my questions and concerns
and addressed each one, keeping me up to date with any changes in Mum's condition. I'm very grateful for the care staff, nurses, admin and management. A wonderful team.

My partner is a lot happier now he is in a different room. He used to get very annoyed as residents kept going into his room and taking his belongings. He had no privacy because no lock on bedroom door, this caused a few fights which I was very concerned about as he is very unsteady on his legs and
frail. So myself and partner more settled.

Very happy with the service. The staff are all grateful to the team they have been really well looked after. I would definitely recommend Windsor Court. My mums discharge into the care home was sudden and very challenging but I'm grateful she was discharged into the home she is at.

My brother is very happy at Astell Care Home and the staff are very good. He also reports that the meals are good and he looks forward to them. His room is very basic but it is clean and tidy and he enjoys watching his television.
Although he has a comfortable armchair to sit in, he could do with a
chair for visitors to sit on. The staff make an effort to engage him in organised activities.

My husband has been here for almost 18 months. He has settled really well and the care he gets is keeping me happy. I don't worry about him when I'm leaving after visits as the staff are really professional and caring. It's all about the care the residents need and they certainly are very well cared
for in all aspects.

The staff at Astell Care home are extremely good - caring, empathic and professional, but with a focus on the residents. There are numerous activities and residents are encouraged to take part and go out on little trips whenever possible. Residents are treated with kindness and dignity at all times,
even when their behaviour is challenging.

My friend has been a resident for virtually a year now and I have nothing but the utmost respect for the staff who work tirelessly in very difficult circumstances. How they cope with multiple residents who are incontinent is beyond me. Because of this issue, the home does have a certain unfortunate
odour but I didn't think a complaint would be fair. Whilst it would be nice if the rooms and shared areas were more welcoming. I do understand the need for practically to facilitate clearing and cleaning up after accidents.

The staff are all amazing, always so warm and welcoming and happy to keep us up to date on how my grandad is doing and anything he might need. look engaging.

In the 10 years that my wife has been a resident at Astell Care Centre, she has been treated with care, support and dignity from all the staff. The thing is I feel that her room could be upgraded and decorated. Kind regards.

Balmoral Court

from N P (Wife of Resident) published on 16 January 2025

My husband went into Albert Unit in March 2024 but deteriorated quite quickly and after spending time in hospital, was discharged back to William Unit in May. He had advanced Alzheimer's, the level of care he had was fantastic, (would give seven stars if I could), the staff made sure he was comfortable
and if I asked for assistance for him they were there as soon as possible, considering there were other residents needing care. The facilities were all being renovated while he was in there but to be honest, he didn't need them as he was bedbound. If you are looking for a plush, hotel like evironment, go elsewhere but if you are looking for warm, caring staff, this is definitely the place. My husband passed away in December in the home and I was with him the whole time. Recommend you check this one out!

Balmoral Court

from P Y (Wife of Resident) published on 22 October 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5

Thank goodness I was able to get my husband out of Balmoral Court, Byker. As soon as he arrived he went downhill rapidly. He was left in his room bent double in his chair looking at the floor all day (he is unable to walk). There were never any fluids in the room, the food was dreadful and cold. A few
days after he arrived personal items were stolen from his room and clothes always missing so he was dressed in other people's clothes. If he asked to go to the toilet no one was available, or it took 20 minutes to come by which time it was too late. He was always getting head injuries falling out of bed, and on some occasions not recorded. When I asked how it had happened, I was always told he was found on the floor (for how long). Albert Unit is a disgrace, there is no compassion shown to residents when dealing with very ill people who can't speak for themselves. I have kept a journal and photographs of all my visits. Management did not listen.

Poor quality of care. Relative moved from the establishment yesterday. The personal odour accompanied the dirty clothes - clearly unchanged and unwashed for some time. The rooms are shabby and bare and lack any stimulation. He felt unsafe in the institution and could not wait to leave. He said the food
was awful - cold and inedible. Staff had little regard for mental wellbeing - he very rarely left the premises and felt like a prisoner. I would recommend avoiding this place at all costs.

I want to express my deep gratitude for the exceptional care and support provided by all the staff at Balmoral Court. From the Manager and nursing staff to the cleaners, everyone has gone above and beyond to assist my dad and me. They've always been prompt in responding to queries and requests for support.
When I needed advice regarding my dad's care and assistance with contacting social services, the team was incredibly supportive. Both the Manager and nurses demonstrated a high level of experience and knowledge, which gave me great confidence in the care my dad is receiving. Moreover, the warmth and politeness of the staff made me feel genuinely welcome every time I visited. I've read other reviews and was surprised by the content because my experience has been highly positive. While some areas of the facility may be a bit dated, I cannot fault the level of care and support provided. Thanks to everyone involved in my dad's care.

My father who was admitted as a known at risk of falls had six falls in the three days he was there. The last fall was fatal, more like an asylum than a care home. Be very observant of any changes to your loved ones if resident here.
