I would highly recommend St Raphael's Nursing Home. Up till just recently, my relative was being cared for by the staff in the Rutland unit who absolutely went above and beyond to care for her needs which they carried out 110% with the utmost care, respect, compassion and professionalism. I will never
forget the comfort and support they all showed me personally and how well they took care of my relative throughout her time there. I will never forget what they did not only for my relative but for me through her palliative care they were a huge comfort to me and showed both of us such love and care. Thank you so much you will all have a special place in my heart for what you have done.

Thank you for your review. Receiving confirmation that the staff have supported both you and your relative with such care and compassion throughout their stay with us is very much appreciated. I will share your review with the staff team in the Rutland Unit.

My husband moved from the family home into Marian House a few months ago. Due to his condition, he didn't settle well at first but the staff were so caring and patient with him. He now says that they are 'lovely people' and I am relieved and happy to report that he is settling into his new home.
The
care home is spotlessly clean and the food is excellent with a choice of meals to suit all tastes.
A warm and friendly ambiance greets you when you enter and the staff are always ready to answer any queries you may have. The garden to the rear is very attractive and the perfect spot in which to relax on a sunny day.
We are delighted with the care our loved one receives in Marian House.

The care provided is exemplary in every way. No complaints whatsoever. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who are friendly and extremely attentive and caring. Most of the staff have been in the home for some time which is always a good sign. The decoration of the rooms and public areas is spotlessly
clean and there are no untoward smells anywhere. There is a regular activity programme which is published in advance each week. There is excellent medical support from a local GP practice and ophthalmic and dental support is available.

It has been 3 months since my husband moved into Marian House. The most wonderful aspect of this care home is its staff. All staff are very friendly, helpful and conscientious and compassionate. They really work very hard to make residents happy and comfortable. I cannot thank them enough for working
tirelessly to look after my husband. Furthermore, the most attractive feature of Marian House is its mature garden. On a sunny day, residents and their relatives can enjoy strolling the garden. On such a fine day, animals including Alpacas, Shetland ponies, pigmy goats, and guinea pigs came to visit residents. I was truly astonished to find them in the courtyard. Marian House also welcomes visitors by pets as well. My husband appreciates a regular visit by his pet cat. It makes all the difference to him. I would like to end my review with my heartfelt gratitude to all the members of staff.

My aunt moved to St Raphael's 6 months ago. We had looked at St Raphael's a number of times but she declined to go. Deputy Manager very patient and understanding through these many visits. Finally, last October, Deputy Manager found us a perfect room and in a few days my aunt moved in. We were greeted
by a lovely, friendly nurse who handles intake, she immediately put my aunt at ease. I live quite some distance and every time I phone my aunt is pleased. Staff have been communicative when issues have arisen (falls, new meds, etc.) which has been comforting. All staff have been pleasant, welcoming, professional and friendly. Couldn't be happier.

Reply from Esther Bathgate, Head Of Care at St Raphael's

Thank you so much for this wonderful review. Finding a suitable care home that both the person in care and family agrees to is not an easy journey. I am delighted to hear that staff at St R made this easy and they continue to do so. This feedback will be shared with the staff.

Marian House

from Susan C (Sister of Resident) published on 20 May 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My sister has been a resident at Marian House since early 2024 and I was very apprehensive about her settling in. I needn't have worried as the staff were so welcoming and friendly and had hung all her favourite pictures beautifully to make her room very homely.
Marian House is a lovely airy light-filled
building inside and it wraps around a well-kept sunny courtyard garden. My sister's room looks out on this space and I know it gives her a lot of pleasure as do her little forays out there.
The staff are very understanding about her need to have a little independence and don't interfere with that. I think things could have been very different in a place where a more rigid approach was taken.
There are also lots of activities my sister can take or leave as she feels inclined.
So all in all she is happy and content in a difficult health situation thanks to the care and kindness of the staff of Marian House who really couldn't try harder.

We will be forever grateful to Marion House in accepting our mum into their beautiful nursing home. It had a peaceful and calming atmosphere from the first minute we entered. The Marion House staff have gone above and beyond to make sure Mum has everything that she needs to help her have some independence
back, they have managed to get Mum to walk with help where she has not done since her operation. Mum has quickly settled into Marion House and is happier in there than when she was at home with carers. Mum talks about the delicious meals and tells us she likes staying in the home. This is all due to the experienced staff who show so much patience, kindness, love and first-class care to our mum. Marion House probably don’t need any reviews but sometimes it’s nice to hear that all the staff there are all doing such a fantastic job making my mum very happy and giving her first-class care, so I thank all of the staff and we will be forever grateful to them all.

Our mum moved into Marian House at the beginning of the year. We got a really good feeling about the care home when we went to see it and have to say we were not wrong. The staff are fantastic, the level of care and attention to detail is first-class. There’s a great programme of weekly activities.
We really can’t praise Marian House enough and feel totally reassured that our mum is being well looked after.

Dad has been a resident since December 2023. He has been very well looked after by the team at St Raphael’s and they have worked hard to give him personalised care.
He enjoys the meals, the wine and the social activities, including the craft cafe, even though he is severely sight impaired.
When he
was unwell with delirium, the team went the extra mile to look after him, supported by the local Hospital at Home team.
We would recommend the home to anyone who is needing 24-hour care, as he now does.

Reply from Jeannie Garing, Care Home Manager at St Raphael's

Thank you for your review. It is good to hear that your father is receiving personalised care and has engaged in the activities offered. The team work hard to support the residents, especially when they are unwell and appreciate your positive comments about the care and support your father received when he was unwell.

I chose St Raphael's for the friend I am guardian for as I had had excellent care for my aunt and my mother, over a period of eight years (2014-2022). My friend has autism, is completely deaf and has mobility issues - she is treated with respect and dignity, has her taste in clothing and menu choices
completely indulged and, most importantly, is treated as an individual. I am thrilled to see carers and entertainment staff interact with her, bringing out her sense of fun and making her feel valid. I owe St Raphael's and all its staff and management a huge debt of gratitude.

My mother recently moved into Marian House.
I am impressed with the high standard of care and facilities here, and would not hesitate to recommend Marian House. (Honestly, I could live here !)
My mum has a lovely room overlooking the gardens. Her room is calm, clean, light and bright. The services
and facilities are fantastic - great food, coffee and cake, great laundry service. There are also activities for those who would like to participate.
The care team are kind, caring, patient, attentive, respectful and supportive - not only of Mum but the whole family. The staff involve us in decisions and keep us informed.
Mum's individual needs are understood and catered for.
On moving in we were met with warmth, understanding and clear and helpful information.
As I live abroad I am lucky that my Mum is living and cared for in such a lovely place, and that I have access to the care plans. when I ring there is always time to keep me updated. I feel as though nothing is too much trouble.

My wife has been a resident since June 2023. She has Parkinson's and has lost her mobility. The care in St Raphael's is exceptional as is the range of activities and entertainment provision provided. There is a good staff to resident ratio and the accommodation is well suited to my wife's circumstances
and needs. The home is set in a leafy residential area which adds to the generally positive atmosphere. Meals are interesting and varied.

My mother has been a resident in Marian House since June 2023. What a welcoming place it is, the staff are always very caring and friendly when I visit and I am confident that they have my mother's best interests at heart. Most of the rooms look onto a safe, well-kept garden which residents can access
and enjoy all year round as it has a covered veranda.
The home is always clean, the food is excellent (freshly cooked) and there are daily activities for residents if they choose to take part. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Marian House to anyone seeking care for their loved one.

Mum has now been at Marian House for a few years and we count ourselves very lucky indeed that we found this care home. The place is an oasis of calm, always clean and the staff cannot do enough for their residents. Even though Mum isn't able to participate in many activities now due to her advancing
dementia she isn't ignored and people spend time with her. The laundry is always immaculate and the food is good. I feel like the staff looks after the whole family, not just the residents, and I can't think of a better place for my mum to be looked after.

My mother is very happy at Marian House and our family recognizes that she is receiving excellent care, which provides us with peace of mind and comfort.
Overall, I’d commend the home on its organization, cleanliness, nutrition and, most importantly the personal care my mother receives. She enjoys
the food choices in the dining room, she is engaged in lots of activities to fight boredom and she feels comfortable and safe in her room. As a relative, I like that the nurses are easy to reach and the manager is quick to respond to queries. In addition she provides regular, helpful information and updates in her emails. I only go to the home twice a year while visiting from overseas, but I am always made very welcome and all the staff are willing to help and answer any questions I have.
