I am generally very happy with the care of my Mother. Her room is clean, the staff are friendly and activities are excellent. Almost all staff are helpful and kind to relatives, this really helps especially when your relative first enters a care home. Communication can be an issue. I have twice attended
a relative meeting which was cancelled, but I hadn't been informed. It can be frustrating when you have a concern and have to talk to staff on different shifts. The information doesn't seem really helpful. The staff photos of those in charge would also be helpful. Some staff are absolutely fabulous. I am thankful for all they do.

Reply from Cassie Dunbar, Marketing coordinator at Ryan Meadows

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about your mother's care. We're delighted that you've been happy with the friendliness and dedication of our staff. We understand how crucial clear and consistent communication can be, and we're sorry if you've felt it hasn't always met your expectations. We'll certainly look into our processes to ensure you receive regular updates about your mother's well-being. We also appreciate your suggestion for more varied entertainment and activities, and we'll keep this in mind as we organise future programmes for our residents. Thank you again for your kind words and constructive feedback. If there's anything more we can do, please don't hesitate to let us know.

The staff are great. The building is a bit tired, the car park can be a bit of a nightmare, the temperature in the room is too warm 28 degrees, the toilet pan is also loose and trouble flushing could do with a wee freshening up.

Georgia Park Care Home

from Donna M (Daughter of Resident) published on 18 February 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Our father moved into Georgia Park around 6 months ago. As a family we chose Georgia Park due to word of mouth, past experience with another close family member and proximity. Naturally, it took a while for dad to adjust to his new home however he is now fully settled which gives us all comfort and
peace of mind. The staff, some of which have been with Georgia Park for years are all very friendly and accommodating. Although dad prefers his own company a lot of the time he is actively encouraged to participate in activities and entertainment available. He thoroughly enjoys the food and has gained some much needed weight. There is good communication from the management on relevant information and any issues that have arisen have been quickly rectified. Overall, we are very pleased with the level of care our father receives. The only negative aspect would be that some of the corridors, particularly the flooring is in need of a refresh.

Reply from Shirley Curle, Care Home Manager at Georgia Park Care Home

Thank you so much. We are pleased that your dad has settled well into the environment. I will take on board your comment about the corridors and flooring and pass to the appropriate department.

My mum has now been in the home for a year now and I can honestly say the care that my mum gets is fantastic. I can't fault any of the staff. Unfortunately you have put in a new manager and I do not like her attitude. I spoke to her yesterday which was the 21st. First she has closed all doors in the
bungalow and I have asked for my mum's to be kept open as my mum doesn't sleep a lot and walks around the home. Also when she does go to sleep she sometimes sleeps on her chair and at one time she slipped off it, so the staff walk around the home and keep an eye on her. I am not the only one who is not happy. I have noticed that the staff are not happy these days. I have asked some of them is anything wrong but they say no but you can tell that there is a change and it is not for the good and also the lady who deals with the entertainment has not been doing much these days. I would appreciate if head office could look into things please as I have said I have had no problems in the past.

Reply from Cassie Dunbar, Marketing coordinator at Duncraggan Care Home

Thank you for sharing your feedback about Duncraggan. We truly appreciate your kind words regarding the care your mum has received over the past year and the dedication of our staff. It's heartening to hear how much you value the support we provide. We're sorry to learn that certain recent changes have caused concern. We've since reached out to follow up on our recent discussions, and we're pleased that there's now an understanding regarding the fire safety measures that required adjustments, such as the door issues you mentioned. Please rest assured that your comments have been carefully considered, and we're committed to balancing safety with comfort for all our residents. It's wonderful to see how much you care about your mum and her environment, and we're dedicated to ensuring she continues to thrive and feel comfortable at Duncraggan. My dad was transferred here after a lengthy spell in hospital due to his ever increasing dementia. I had visited the home the day before his intended transfer to put some familiar items in place for him, then he was unexpectedly re admitted to A and E this delayed his arrival here for a week, this was
not a problem to the care home and his room was kept for him. On his arrival at the home it was just amazing, every member of staff is lovely, they really do care about their residents, nothing is any trouble. The home itself is well maintained, kept spotlessly clean, warm and homely. I am so glad my dad is being looked after here 10 out of 10!

My mother moved in on March 2024 due to her requiring full time care. She was local to the home so this made it easier for friends and family to visit, some of the care workers knew her personally so this was also a benefit. She was a bit confused at first with her new surrounding's but the care workers
showed experience in getting her settled in. She tells me everything and all the care workers are good. She is always in the lounge area with fellow residents which is good for her. The nurse always contacts myself with any medical updates and permission for any injections my mother may require. They have entertainment shows which helps her as she likes a good singsong. The food always looks good anytime I visit and there's always tea and cake whenever she likes. She has her hair done most weeks and always looks tidy and clean. Its getting harder for the care workers to move my mother as they need two people due to her physical disabilities but they always seem to cope.

My mum has been in Dunvegan Lodge for over 6 months now. I feel she is cared for, not just looked after and commend the respectful attitude of the staff. She often says she is happy in the home and enjoys the food and I feel I must comment on the high level of cleanliness, the varied activities on offer
and the cheery, helpful disposition of staff I encounter.
Making the decision for a relative to enter long-term care is difficult but for us as a family, Dunvegan has been a positive choice.

My Dad stayed for a few days as my Mum needed a wee break and Dunvegan was local. Almost instantly my Dad seemed at home thanks to the friendly and understanding nature of the staff. He was in his element and I can’t thank them enough for their care and compassion towards him. He enjoyed the food (despite
being a fussy eater!), participated in the activities and had a relaxing time.
I can’t speak highly enough for the level of care he received and the staff were all friendly and took great care of the residents there when I was visiting. There was a nice atmosphere and if you are looking at the care home for an elderly relative I can thoroughly recommend it.

My dad was in Duncraggan Care Home for a planned 10-day respite stay while we were getting work done in his house.
Dad wasn't keen on going in, even for just a short time; however, our family can't thank the staff enough for making him feel so comfortable and at ease during his visit; they made him
feel like part of the family.
Both the management and every member of staff were excellent from start to finish making our job of getting everything done from him coming home a lot easier.
Again can't thank them enough.

Greyfriars Care Centre

from M B (Daughter of Resident) published on 11 August 2022
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5

My mum was in Greyfriars from Oct to April 2022. She was admitted for end-of-life palliative care. Mum was bedridden and totally dependent on the staff in the home. We were promised she would have staff with her throughout the day keeping her stimulated. She was to be included in activities for example
getting her nails painted or someone reading to her. None of this ever happened. Staff was only with mum to wash and change her, other than that she was left on her own. Mum's positional changes were regularly late and she developed a bed sore after just 2 weeks. Her catheter was emptied into the basin used for washing her. The en-suite bathroom had no hot running water for over 2 months. The window catches never worked. Repairs were promised and never carried out. Mum was too frail to be moved to another care home. I would not recommend Greyfriars if your family member is bedridden. Mum was out of sight out of mind.

Reply from Care Service Director, Keane Premier Healthcare at Greyfriars Care Centre

We are extremely sorry that your experience at Greyfriars care home was not a positive experience; this is not the standard which we strive to achieve. Following your mum's passing, a formal complaint had been raised regarding your mum's care, a thorough investigation had been completed and we sent you a detailed response. Within this response, we highlighted areas for improvement which had been identified, lessons learned and our intended actions. I would like to thank you for raising these concerns and we welcome any feedback from residents or their family members, both positive and negative, as this feedback enables us to analyse areas of care and improve our service.

My mother has been a resident of Kingsgate Nursing Home for almost a year and a half. It has taken a long time to settle, but she seems to be enjoying it now. The staff are lovely and caring. I myself have noticed an improvement in the home due to a new member of management who is extremely motivated
and knows exactly what is required to run a care home efficiently and provide activities for the residents. It is a great relief to families to know that their loved one is being looked after. Thank you to all the staff.
