A month in and we are utterly delighted with dad moving to Copelands. It really is the next level in care. Full of heart, warmth and staff who really enjoy working there. Then there is the location and building design - Wow! It will be even better still when the nursing care section opens. A great,
exceptional place!

Copelands is a fine example of how care of the elderly should be provided. I did not realise that a facility like this even existed. Full marks to all the staff from the management right through to the support staff and the carers! Well done! The whole family is delighted that we found this place.

Copelands Dementia and Residential Care

from J G (Friend of Resident) published on 5 November 2024

This is a lovely care home to walk into. The decor is gorgeous. It is stylish, bright and welcoming. The staff are very caring and friendly. They seem to know the residents really well and their fondness for them is tangible. My dear friend that I visit regularly is usually found sitting in the attractive
day room whose huge picture windows ensure the room is flooded with light. Sometimes she is playing dominoes. Sometimes she is sitting contentedly nursing a cup of tea. There are activities laid on every afternoon. There is a hairdressers. Today I noticed that her nails were beautifully manicured and she liked to show them off. There is a lovely cafe with wonderful sea views. It feels as though we are taking her out for a while although the reality is the cafe is accessed just down a pleasant corridor and through a glass panelled door.
Copelands deserves its 5 star rating.

Overall very pleasant surroundings and in a very tasteful decorative state. The care is excellent, very friendly staff who get to know the residents very well. That includes care workers, cleaners and office staff. The kitchen staff are great and get to know what residents like to eat. The cafe is an
excellent place for visitors and residents. Just a small recommendation is that maybe a little more things for the residents to do. Activities or entertainment.

Copelands Dementia and Residential Care

from J M (Daughter-in-law of Resident) published on 22 October 2024

My mother has been a resident in Copelands for four weeks and in that time we have seen an improvement in her mobility, health and well-being and heard her laugh for the first time in months.
The management has been supportive and informative to both my mother-in-law and us as a family in making the
decision to move from home to residential care. They are very hands on and set a great example to the rest of the staff team with their friendliness and attitude.
The staff team - whether care workers, catering or ancillary - are like an extended family always finding time to chat and provide one-to-one support through practical help and activities.
The accommodation is beautifully designed and decorated with a comfortable elegance. Private rooms are large and en-suite with everything necessary for daily living.
I would stress that it is the care and support shown by the management and staff to residents and family members that sets Copelands in a category of it's own.

I decided to enter residential care because of loneliness and as I fractured my back, I could not cope at home even with help. I have been in Kirk House for eighteen months and I have found the experience very suited to my needs. If I need care it is readily available but I am encouraged to be as independent
as possible. I deal with my own medication but senior carers will always help if I have any problems. It has been a good decision for me as my life has changed so much since the death of my husband after 66 years of marriage, I am as happy as I can be!

Kirk House has kept our mum alive. She has been a resident for over 7 years and she has been very happy. When she first arrived she loved being cared for, and food provided, and she loved her independence too. She would regularly walk to a particular place and back. She joined in many of the different
activities and made such good friends. The Kirk House staff became her friends.
At age 96, she sadly needs more care than Kirk House can provide. You know that this is such a great residential home when the staff cry when a resident leaves. Kirk House is family. I would highly recommend it to anyone considering residential care.

Reply from Alan Irwin, Business Development Manager at Kirk House, Belfast

We agree completely that the unique thing about Kirk House is the sense of family about it. Credit to the staff and to residents for keeping this alive.

I have been visiting Kirk House for 14 years and for me, it is a truly wonderful home. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The place is amacuatly clean. It's a home that I would want to live in myself in my twilight years. I simply cannot speak highly enough of this home and every person I have encountered
there. I'm also greatly impressed with how the home does so much in terms of activities for the residents and also in collecting for various charities. Many thanks to you all.

My mum has been a resident in Kirk House for nearly two years. In the last few months, she has moved to the memory lane corridor and has settled in very well. She has a lovely room and speaks well of everyone. She loves the food and the common living area where she has company. The staff are very kind
and caring and there is a lovely family atmosphere. I know my mum feels safe there and I have great peace knowing that she is being well cared for and I am very grateful that she is in such a good care home.

Kirk House has cared for my mother for four years, all through the pandemic and the care she gets every day is second to none. My brother and I are alerted straight away should they have any concerns, no matter how small.
When she reached the age of 100, Kirk House very kindly offered to let the family
celebrate together on the premises and nothing was too much bother for the staff.
I would highly recommend Kirk House to anyone looking for a very comfortable, spotless, well-run nursing home with tremendous staff.

I cannot recommend Kirk House highly enough. The management team and staff are second to none, providing genuine care and support not only to my mum but to our family as we navigate Mum's dementia journey. The accommodation is perfect. The flatlet means that my mum has her own 'home' which has been
personalised with furniture and pictures from her house and provides a comforting and familiar environment for her. She has the benefit of having her own space when she wants it but also has lots of opportunities to socialise and take part in activities in the Memory Lane lounge and with other residents in the common room. Mum particularly enjoys attending the Church services.
The set up in Memory Lane and other 'corridors' where each area has its own lounge for dining and activities creates a 'family type' environment and that along with the excellent care, compassion and friendliness of staff makes it a very warm and cheering place to live.

Copelands Dementia and Residential Care

from I M (Resident) published on 21 November 2022
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mum has been a resident in Copelands Dementia and Residential Care now for nearly six months and I couldn't speak highly enough about the care she has received from the staff or the Copelands facility itself. Mum moved into the dementia care facility and I have just been so impressed with the care,
the space, the welcome and the activities on offer. Their Covid protocols have impressed me as being safe and pragmatic and ensuring residents don't become isolated in the event of an outbreak. My mum had been in a previous care facility that I believe genuinely got their Covid restrictions wrong and this led to isolation and a poor outcome, particularly for my mum. Mum is in such a better place now she is a resident at Copelands.
The main thing to recommend Copelands is not the beautiful building, grounds or view, it's the staff - all of whom have had dementia training and work together in a way that I have not experienced before - it is clearly for the residents' benefit. We feel blessed Mum is a resident at Copelands.

I can honestly say that I can't recommend Copelands Dementia and Residential Care highly enough - on every level - the accommodation, the location of the premises (beautiful sea views on the coast), the food, the atmosphere, the standard of care and, most of all, every single member of the incredibly
dedicated and caring staff. My mum, who was diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2018, moved in in April of this year, having lived at home until then and we are all - including, most importantly, Mum herself - delighted at how she has settled in. The last year has been very difficult for our family, having lost my father last November after a long period of illness and having suffered the sudden bereavement of another close family member - but from the word go, the staff and management at Copelands have been beyond helpful and supportive - not just to Mum but to all of us. Mum never stops saying how fantastic the staff are, that they can't do enough to help - and I wholeheartedly agree with her!

They are always quick to respond when any issues arise and always willing
to facilitate when possible. The surroundings are five-star and state of the art complemented with five restaurant quality food, the addition of the café allows you to converse with Mum and friends in a wonderful setting.

My mum has now been a resident in a dementia unit at the Copelands Dementia and Residential Care for almost a year and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anybody. All the management and support staff are approachable, professional, caring and keen to do whatever to make Mum comfortable.
They encourage her to join in during activities but also respond to the individual wants and needs of residents on a one-to-one basis. The standards of housekeeping are exceptional and the domiciliary team members are always on the go. The standard of catering is also excellent with a varied and nutritious menu which changes regularly and individual meals are often adapted to suit the appetite of the resident. What I find really heartwarming is that all staff members from the different functions interact with the residents on a day-to-day basis which I believe helps the residents to feel at home.
