Acorn House Care Home

from Keith O (Brother of Resident) published on 17 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My sister was diagnosed with dementia a few years ago, and despite this, she was able to life in her own property until the dementia became more difficult to handle. After a period with carers visiting twice daily, it was decided that a suitable Care Home should be sought.
Having been born in Nottingham,
and spending most of her life in the city, we decided to look for somewhere local to her.
Thankfully, we were recommended to pay a visit to Acorn House, and after tour by welcoming staff, we put Acorn at the top of our list.
We visited a few other Homes, although non came anywhere near to offering the care and facilities that Acorn did, so we began arrangements for her to move in.
Initially, she was offered a room on the floor that accommodated the more serious cases of dementia, which she found difficult. Very soon though, Acorn offered her a room on another floor where she quickly made friends, and became more settled.
Thank you Acorn, you guys are great.

Reply from Martin Platt, Front of House Manager at Acorn House Care Home

After much soul searching, we made the decision that mum needed more care than we could provide for her. Just over a year ago, with extensive research, we moved her into Goldwell Manor and from that moment, we relaxed in the knowledge that she was being cared for by staff who always put residents'
needs first and foremost. From reception to maintenance and floor staff, we are always met with smiles and positivity, and mum is always clean, happy and cared for.
There are always a good range of activities (again run by caring and dedicated staff members) which suits mum as she is always one for being around people and joining in with whatever is going on. Her room is beautifully kept and whenever we visit, there is always a buzz around the building, and it is obvious that the high standards we see aren't achieved without a lot of hard work.
I would not hesitate to recommend Goldwell Manor to anyone looking for peace of mind.

I want to acknowledge the exceptional care provided to my mum, during her stay at Goldwell Manor Care Home. The staff were compassionate, kind and attentive to her every need and also to her family. The quality of care was outstanding and I felt confident that she was in good hands. I would highly recommend
Goldwell Manor to anyone looking for a caring and supportive environment for their loved one especially if dementia care is required.

Mum has been at Goldwell Manor since 22nd January. It was a very difficult decision as I never anticipated that either of my parents would ever be in a care home. However this is more than a care home. It is 5* assisted living with carers that treat the residents as part of the family. It is very early
days but mum seems settled and thinks everyone is lovely. All the residents appear to be treated with dignity and respect.

My mother had been in Kingsfield court for the past 5 years, whilst suffering from Dementia. The care has always been supportive and faultless. I'm sad to say that my mother passed away earlier this month and again the staff where all so thoughtful and understanding, mum was on the first floor but to
a person Kingsfield staff where magnificent.
Thank you to two staff members in particular for going above and beyond your care duties. You made a terrible situation bearable. My heart felt thank yous!

My sister moved in here due to the closure of a council-run care home. The difference between the two care homes is like chalk and cheese, this establishment is more like a hotel! It is warm and welcoming and staff are really friendly. All of her needs are met in full (she is mentally and physically
disabled). She has said how much happier she is here, and it shows as she now has a permanent smile on her face whenever I see her. The food menu offers a wide variety and choices for all meals. There are various activities that she is able to join in with if she wishes. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this care home.

I just wanted to say how amazing you all are. My Dad moved into Acorn House about a year and a half ago and you have worked so hard to make it feel like home, as you do for all of the residents. You are all so welcoming; from the reception, cleaning and catering staff to the carers and managers. The
unsung heroes are always the night staff who I rarely get to meet but keep my dad safe at night and of course the maintenance man!
Dad isn't that keen on joining in with the many varied activities that you provide but you always do your best to include him. Communication is key to any successful organisation and your approach to this is second to none!
It's never an easy decision to move a loved one into a care home but it has given me and my dad a chance to be Dad and daughter again and not carer and patient and I will forever appreciate this!
You are all winners to me! With love and appreciation.

Whenever I visit my Grandad at Acorn House, the home is always clean and welcoming. He always looks smart and well cared for. There is always plenty of staff around to help him and look after him. He seems very happy and he likes to join in the activities. He goes out to the local cafe and on the bus
with some of the activity staff, which he enjoys. I am happy to recommend this home.

Rosewood Manor

from S H (Daughter of Resident) published on 2 December 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5

Beautifully presented home with kind, hardworking care assistants, catering team and premises staff. If your loved one requires companionship and minimal support, I'm sure they would be extremely happy with the facilities and activities on offer. However, if they require reassurance and assistance with
personal care, mobility, nutrition, etc., then this isn't the home for them. Residents on the Sandringham floor (dementia care) are frequently left unsupervised and confused, with no staff available to help and reassure them. The overstretched care assistants work extremely hard and are amazing, but understaffing and no support from senior management mean they are unable to meet the needs of all residents. A positive needs assessment isn't a guarantee that care needs can be met as resources and training are inadequate. Please do not be dazzled by the show home presentation of this home. Please think very carefully before considering Rosewood Manor for the care of your loved one.
