In the beginning, my aunt wasn't too sure as she was living independently and found it hard to accept help from strangers. As time went by she became to realise the staff were here to help her and make her stronger, and they certainly did. The once strangers have become family. Not only to Aunty, also
to her extended family. Brilliant staff, unfortunately I can't use names, however, they will know who they are.

The care that my sister received whilst being really poorly with a badly infected leg. Whoever I put my concern to was very 'up' with the situation. Always helpful to me with many of my questions.
I much appreciate all the care that she received by the 2nd floor staff.
(Blackbeard) floor.

Windmill Lodge Residential. This is run as a business to make profit, that is the bottom line. The management is uncaring and unprofessional. When you see behind the facade, it's a different story. The only positive we can mention are the carers who are employed. Would not recommend this place. The
Nolan Day Centre. Wonderful place, fantastic staff, would highly recommend.

When the resident arrived from hospital he was unable to communicate and feel himself and I was preparing for the worst. After a short time is able to speak again, eat independently and has a renewed vigour. This has been the result lf the dedication and professionalism of the staff, their excellent
care and dedication. I cannot thank them enough for their hard work.

This day, at lunchtime, has been one of the best experiences I've had with my brother since Windmill Lodge opened last year. Residents were in the lounge having lunch and enjoying the social aspect of eating with other people. The chef's assistant helped to serve lunch which was good because it relieved
the care staff whilst they helped some residents. This needs to happen more often as it makes the place feel more like home for them all.

Windmill Lodge

from David M (Son of Resident) published on 5 November 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5

My mother was resident here until we lost her in September, had vascular dementia and was very frail. This nursing home "lost" a high value eternity ring and I was given assurances back in August that they were "looking into it" and that I would receive a response as a priority. 54 days later and I
nor Social Services have received any form of a response. They are in breach of Section 47 of the 2014 Care Act. My mum has now died and I have to explain to my daughter why an item of great personal sentimental value to her and my mother, cited as being bequeathed to her in my mother's will is missing. We have supplied them with photographs, a full insurance valuation and still no response. I am personally shocked by Athena's management's kick the can down the road approach to this matter. The management team seem unwilling to or unable to deal with a basic insurance claim. Probably best avoided if your elderly relatives have any high value personal effects. Or just avoid altogether.

Reply from Matthew Bell, Regional Operations Manager at Windmill Lodge

We are sorry that it appears your mothers ring was lost. We do ask that valuable items are not brought into the home and that they are insured if they are. It is regrettable that very small, but very valuable items, such as rings, can be mislaid or lost all too easily. We have not acted in breach in section 47 of the Care Act and have not obstructed the local authority at all. We do, however, accept that our response to your reporting the loss was not as prompt or helpful as it ought to have been and we apologise for that. We have made a payment to your late mothers estate for the cost of a replacement ring.

Went for a two-week respite. Left 4 days early. Awful, understaffed, food disgusting and cold. Please do not send your loved ones here, they leave them doing nothing but cry and try to break out. The older people were begging me to call their families - no games or entertainment.

Reply from Matthew Bell, Regional Operations Manager at Windmill Lodge

We are sorry that our food was not entirely to your taste and that the options you chose were not properly communicated to the kitchen. e did note that you spent much of the day out of the Lodge, so were not able to participate in activities. We pride ourselves on, among other things, the quality of our food offering and our activities/exercise programmes for our residents and are re-doubling our efforts in those areas.

Since my brother-in-law was admitted to Lakelands Lodge we have been most impressed with the overall standard of his accommodation, the care he has received and his medical assistance. The staff have gone out of their way to settle him into the home. We have always found them to be cheerful, polite
and helpful and the home is always spotless. We feel he is fortunate to be in such a caring establishment.

Often taken out into the community in my wheelchair with a member of staff and usually another resident. Plenty to do, also with music and karaoke. People will visit the home and entertain the residents who really enjoy their visit. Today I was taken to church (23/07/2024) for communion with a member
of staff and another resident and will attend the church on other occasions in the future. Plenty to do in the month. Very pleased with the care I receive.

Thank you for your lovely review. It is always lovely to hear that the residents in our care are enjoying their stay. Our aim is to support all the residents to enjoy life to the fullest. You can tell that the hard work from the staff is paying off, by the love and laughter that is seen around the building and by the community engagement that is ongoing. I shall ensure the staff are aware of your kind words.
