My dad is currently in South Africa lodge and the care he receives is outstanding.
My dad is so happy and settled. He always looks clean tidy and his hair is always brushed.
I love the way the carers are with my dad.
I could not ask for better care.

Reply from Leanne Parmenter, Head of Business Development at South Africa Lodge

Thank you for your lovely review. We are really pleased to hear your dad has settled well at South Africa Lodge, I will ensure this is passed on to the team there.

The staff are excellent. The care and nursing staff are helpful, kind, hard-working and extremely good at their jobs. All the other staff; cleaners, kitchen staff and maintenance team are all excellent with the residents, treating them with kindness and consideration.
My husband has been at Kitnocks
for about 3 months and he settled quickly and is as happy as I hoped for. I am very grateful for his excellent care.

One small criticism is that the two lovely terracotta tubs on each side of the main entrance were full of weeds when we arrived and made a poor impression on arrival.
I was delighted to be allowed to plant them up and am happy to continue as I have been told people appreciate the flowers.
I do wish
there were more activities which involved handicaps but am not sure my husband could take part. Thanks.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review of Kitnocks House, your kind support and fantastic job with the plants at the front of the building, have been really appreciated - we have received some lovely compliments! I will ensure your feedback is shared with the team.

My husband has only been a resident for 1 month and therefore it is still very early days. This obviously means that my review is based on limited experience of Kitnocks House at this stage and thus I have left a couple of options blank in the ratings.
I have been impressed by the helpful, friendly
approach by all members of staff whom I've so far encountered and although my husband is still not entirely happy being a resident I can tell he is well cared for and treated with dignity and respect.

Good check-in (my relative) and greeting by a friendly, helpful receptionist, guided and admitted by staff member (who unlocked five doors) to room, pleasant, clean atmosphere and surroundings, attractive pictures, TV in room controlled by patients. Comfortable visitor seating. Tea transported by staff
member who adjusted well to head height and supplied feeder (against spills). Tea offered to visitors. Carers competent, showing link with patient, spoke competent English, and available at end of visit to conduct us on return to entry point. Adequate car parking available. Seasonal flowers at entrance. Good impression of brightness and efficiency.

I visted my close friend at Marula Lodge on October 29th 2024. Sadly my friend has Parkinson's complicated by progressive dementia, nevertheless, despite remaining dumb throughout my visit, he remains very well cared for by a delightful group of staff members many of whom are Nepalese. My friend and
I met originally in Nepal in 1985 so the relationship between my friend, the staff and myself was extremely cordial. My friend is being very well cared for despite his very poor prognosis.

My sister-in-law has been living at South Africa Lodge for almost a year. I am thrilled that she has settled well and is so much happier and healthier. This is a testament to the wonderful care she is receiving from all the staff. Everyone is so welcoming, cheerful, friendly and helpful. The home is
always spotlessly clean and bright and cheerful. There is always plenty of activities going on, something for everyone. The staff keep in touch regularly with updates. I highly recommend South Africa Lodge.

I have just spent a couple of hours visiting my mother at Marula Lodge on her birthday. It's not the cake supplied by the chef (thank you) or the lovely fuss to make my mum feel special, but the reason I am reviewing is to recognise the kindness and warmth of the staff towards the residents and their
families. There are some truly kind and wonderful people caring for our mum and we thank you and really appreciate you.

I welcome this opportunity to say a big thank you to Kitnocks House for looking after my husband. Unfortunately, Dad passed away in Wisteria last weekend, but the care and compassion that all members of staff showed to him were immeasurable. They all went above and beyond to make his final few weeks comfortable. Management should be proud of the exemplary care that was delivered. They could not
do enough for our father but also supported all of the family through this difficult time.

My mum came from another care home, they were unable to lower Mum's blood sugar. South Africa Lodge managed to control her blood sugars and this had a beneficial effect on her behaviour. Mum did very well at South Africa Lodge.
If I had a criticism, it would be that the environment was a bit bland
and institutional and it would be nice to have a meal with Mum.

Reply from Natasha Gwyther, Special Projects Manager at South Africa Lodge

Thank you for your review. It's great to hear how well the team at South Africa Lodge have managed your mum's health and condition. Regarding South Africa Lodge's environment, the home is designed to have both a clinical and therapeutic benefit for residents with complex needs which, compared to some traditional nursing homes, can appear bland. Caring for people in a complex care service means that some facilities such as dining with relatives are not always possible to support.

My husband has been a resident of South Africa Lodge for the past six months and I cannot begin to say how happy I am with the care and attention he is given every day. The staff are all so kind and caring and have helped him to settle in and look after him so well, they also are very attentive to the

My Dad has been at Marula Lodge for over a year now and has moved to Pirbright unit. My mum and the whole family feel the staff look after Dad very well. They are attentive and nothing is too much trouble to ease his pain or make him smile.
Today the staff moved Dad into an armchair very gently even
though they had to use a machine. That is no mean feat as I know he finds it painful. The staff member was wonderful when I asked for a few food items and the whole family had tea to join Dad for lunch. The carer then returned to show us how Dad could now use a pedometer. It was wonderful to see, as Dad’s movement has decreased and this will help to keep his joints moving and muscles working. Well done to the manager for training some fabulous staff to care for our precious Dad.

Staff too busy inputting data into electric devices to know where all residents were. Sister-in-law was in her room in bed waiting for a sling review. She was not given a drink or access to a drink all the time I was there until I asked. Other residents in the lounge were showing signs of irritability,
not picked up by staff. Resident stimulation needs to be addressed, not just nail painting and television. The home generally has poor leadership. I appreciate agency may need to be used but adequate supervision is a priority.

Whenever I visit, I find the staff kind, caring and attentive. You can see and feel the loving and respectful atmosphere they have created. There is always plenty of staff around, so residents aren't left unattended. Although the level of care residents in this home require is challenging, the staff
take it in their stride and provide care in a respectful manner. It's always nice to see the staff chatting and engaging with residents in the lounge as friends, rather than just in a staff-resident relationship. Staff go out of their way to keep residents entertained by singing with them, styling their hair, painting and cutting their nails. There is also regular entertainment arranged for residents, and they recently had a 'bring your pet to work' day, which allowed residents to interact with animals, which was lovely.
