Cascade (Moore House)

from Sarah G (Mother of Resident) published on 29 May 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

I'm thrilled with how well my son has settled in to Moore House. I'm impressed with how the staff have taken on board suggestions from his school and from me. Knowing him is so important to understanding him and being able to support him. The staff have done a fantastic job of getting to grips with
his sensory motor exercise program. This is a key method to helping him regulate his body and behaviour. His carers have introduced him to lots of new experiences, such as rock climbing and animation art. He is really blossoming!
I sometimes feel that there are loads of different staff members, and I hope they can all get to know him well enough. I realise that Moore is a brand new home, so I'm sure this will settle down. I feel confident that I can always talk to the manager and team leaders who do seem to understand his needs well.

The home is managed effectively and efficiently by the registered managers/ senior team leaders. Our child is enabled to build trusted and secure relationships with adults looking after them. The leadership team encourage staff to understand signs of anxiety/disquiet and provide support. They seek to
understand triggers for behaviour. Positive behaviour is praised. They recognise the need for clear, consistent boundaries e.g. around food and seek to pass that knowledge to all staff. Our child has been able to develop an appropriate sense of belonging and permanence. They are supported to develop independence whilst protecting themselves from being in unsafe situations. Despite challenging behaviours, there has been access to a range of social and recreational activities. Our child is treated with respect and encouraged to develop skills and strategies to manage their own feelings.
Regular contact with family and friends is encouraged and staff work proactively with us as parents.

My son, who is a resident of Cascade Care Home, had to be rushed to hospital. He was extremely ill, I was away at the time and could not visit for a few days. I was kept informed by staff of how he was doing and staff remained with him as much as possible. They ensured that hospital staff knew he was
autistic and how he liked to be treated.

The home is always clean and tidy and the staff are always cheerful. My relative has been poorly lately and the staff have been great. They accompany him to hospital and appointments. The gardens are always well cared for.

Cascade (Hurst House)

from Chris B (Father of Resident) published on 7 February 2023

Cascade (Hurst House) Care Home is an excellent facility for young adults with learning disabilities. It is competently managed and the staff show genuine compassion to the residents. There is a varied program of activities. Care is well-tailored to the individual resident. The staff are flexible with
regard to visiting, which is very useful for residents and parents. When problems or mistakes arise (which is rare), they are transparent about the issue and act swiftly to resolve the situation. Overall, Hurst House successfully replicates a warm family home model and this obviously provides the residents with a safe and secure environment.

Review of

Cascade (Cohen House)

from Harry S (Father of Resident) published on 12 January 2023
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My son transitioned into Cascade (Cohen House) Care Home during Covid, so he and I got to meet several staff one-to-one for a couple of hours each (outdoors!) This creative management idea meant I got to know some of his carers, who were unfailingly interested, caring, committed and very human. Staff
continuity is so important with lads like mine, so credit to Cohen House that staff turnover stays as low as possible.
This is not my son's first care home, so I can make the comparison that Cohen House is a thousand per cent better than his previous place. I have full confidence in the care; activities; staffing levels; professionalism; management and 'culture'; physical environment; communications and his health care.
He's happy coming for regular home visits to 'Dad's' and equally happy going back to Cohen House.
Crucially, whenever I have raised suggestions or concerns, management has used my feedback constructively and always with a focus on my lad's best interests.
Top-notch staffing and management; I hope his home for life!

The care staff are always friendly and warm towards my daughter. My daughter seems happy and comfortable in the home, e.g. she is always happy to return after a home visit and she is using more shared spaces in the home. There is plenty of space in the home which allows her to have her own private space
when it is needed, which is important to her. Care staff are knowledgeable of different strategies to use to support her in everyday activities. Communication is generally good between the home and us (as parents). We have on occasion had to advocate on her behalf about certain things relating to her personal care or what she needs - as she cannot ask for things herself. It is important to always put yourself in her shoes about what she needs and how she might be feeling.

Cascade (Hurst House)

from Maria G (Mother of Resident) published on 24 November 2022
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My 27-year-old son started living at Cascade (Hurst House) Care Home last October 2021. The transition was bespoke for my son, I feel that the management and staff really listened and took on board my concerns from my son moving there after living at home with me.
The support they gave us was amazing
and a very smooth transition, some hiccups to be expected but I felt and still feel comfortable voicing any concerns that I have.
My son has his own brand new flat but spends most of his time socialising with the other young adults that also live at Hurst House.
The atmosphere is amazing and full of life, just like a busy household full of young adults, although I think there are only eight who live there.
Hurst House is also a registered school with an education room where teachers come in regularly and again a bespoke learning plan for each individual.
Hurst House is a bright, spotless, spacious house but also has a snug/sensory room upstairs if anyone wants to relax and chill out.
Everyone seems so happy there.

Cascade Charlton House Care Home is excellent in all its efforts to provide appropriate support - indeed it offers the best provision that we, as a family, have found for our son in his lifetime (he is now 42 years old).
We consider that our son is extremely fortunate to be benefitting from such a
truly caring, outstanding environment.

Cascade Charlton House

from S B (Brother of Resident) published on 22 November 2022
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Cascade Charlton House Care Home is a class act and achieves the rare skill of enabling new arrivals to become more settled and positive people as a result of their care. This means that it occupies a fairly unique position in both working with people who need a lot of help but also creating a wholesome
environment where things can improve for all. I've put a pile of five-star ratings but everyone is chosen thoughtfully. Charlton and Cascade as an organisation are thoughtful and ambitious to do the best they can and the results follow those aims. In my experience, most places have one or two staff who are kind and perceptive and interested in putting in the effort but Cascade is loaded with them, top to bottom. I know they are expanding with a charitable origin and ethos and long may this continue.

I am always able to contact the manager and team if needed. Any concerns are always addressed and I am kept up to date with my son's progress and needs. The staff have found new activities for him to expand his independence.
With the death of his father (during Covid) the team handled the situation
professionally which was reassuring for us and helped with our grieving process.

I was collecting my son for a home visit and I was impressed with the way the staff cared for him, nothing is too much trouble and he obviously realised that he loves his home and is very settled. The home organised his day with plenty of variety, he is engaged with all the staff and residents and he
seems very happy, this is very comforting for his family.

Cascade (Hurst House)

from Joanne B (Mother of Resident) published on 17 November 2022
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My son has been living at Cascade (Hurst House) Care Home for eighteen months. He shows, at times, very challenging behaviours and becomes very anxious and scared.
He moved from a home where he lived for nine years and was very settled. The transition from there to Hurst House was a difficult one
for him but the transition between the old home and Hurst was planned professionally and with the most care for my son. And since that day the level and the right mix of professionalism and genuine care and support for my son has remained a constant. There have been changes in staff and residents join during the last eighteen months and they have put everything in place to make sure my son dealt with these changes, he was supported so beautifully.
The management and staff are all as one. They are a team, from a family's perspective, that works together to give our young people the best life possible.
You walk into Hurst House and are greeted by big smiles from staff and residents alike. My son in turn continues to smile thanks to them.
