My mother-in-law was a resident at the care home. She was there for almost 3 years. She passed away 7 months ago. When she was admitted to the home, she was only given 2-3 months to live. If it hadn't been for all the staff there, she would not have lived. A big thank you to you all. Six staff members
in particular made her life so very happy, and she loved you all very much. Plus, there are so many more people from the cleaners, laundry, kitchen staff, and activities staff to give a big thank you from all of the family.

Mom came here from hospital for assessment in December 2023 and became a permanent resident in June last year. Mom's dementia is very advanced and her needs are complex she has a 1:1 in place to safe guard her and others. I can't thank the team at Cannock Specialist Care Centre enough for the love,
care and support they give mom on a daily basis. This is the 3rd care home mom has been in and she really has struck gold , from management, to nurses, carers, activity coordinators, housekeeping, laundry, reception and maintenance each and everyone of them treat mom like one of the family. The love and care mom gets is outstanding even when she is having a difficult day and is not easy to manage. The unit mom is on, has an amazing manager that mom clearly loves which is testament to the care and compassion she shows to mom. The facilities are excellent, the activities are amazing and despite mom being unable to join in very much anymore she is always encouraged. An outstanding care home .

I cannot praise this care home enough for the care and compassion they gave my dad. He was with them for about 12 months and right from before he even arrived with them they were supportive of us as a family. Every single member of staff from the Manager and clinical staff to the housekeeping staff
were absolutely amazing and genuinely cared for my dad. The support and care we received as a family during my dad's last weeks, which were extremely difficult, was absolutely outstanding and I would recommend them to anyone. The home was clean, tidy and we felt he was in a 5-star hotel and treated like a king.

Our Mom has been at Austen Court for 5 years now and as a family, we couldn't wish for anywhere better for her. The care and dignity she receives is excellent and tailored to her particular needs. The staff are warm, caring, friendly, always welcoming and approachable and nothing is ever too much trouble
for them. They are there if you ever need to ask anything, or even for a chat and any questions are answered and sorted out straight away. Mom has a beautiful room that she has made her own and the staff are respectful of all her property. She enjoys her meals, tailored to her vegetarian needs and participates in the many activities on offer, including a mini on-site cinema, again by the caring and thoughtful activity staff. She also makes use of the hairdresser and Chiropodist, who visit the home on a regular basis. We feel content and relieved that Mom is always safe and cared for very well, as well as her independence encouraged. Thank you to all the staff at Austen Court.

My dad has been here since March 2024 after being placed there to be assessed since leaving hospital in February 2024. Although he has deteriorated dramatically due to his illness, I feel the staff have done all they can to support and care for him. Lots of activities in place and a really big effort
with all the key celebrations across the year. The entertainment at Christmas was really good and my mum really enjoyed it too during our visit. I ring frequently, updated with how he has been and they have good contact of any issues arise in between. He has a one to one all the time and this works as they know keeping a slight distance reduces risk if getting agitated. They spot if he needs extra help. Special mentions must go to two staff members in particular who are brilliant with him. They keep him calm; I can see that my dad really respects them. The food - really good! facilities -modern, spacious - big consideration for us - space to wander - big corridors, huge room en-suite lovely reception lounge.

My cousin had been at the care home for 12 months when he passed away on Thursday. Whilst at the care home David has received very good care, the staff have supported him even if on occasions his dementia led to him shouting at them. There were always refreshments for us when we visited and it was no
trouble for us to go and make a cup of tea for him. The care on the day he died was second to none, the whole team was so supportive and kind. Thank you so much for the care you gave to our loved one.

Felt compelled to write an update on my previous review. I really cannot fault the care my sister has received over the past 6 months, every single member of staff are so kind and caring towards her and have understood, rapidly, her level of care needs. My sister always has a smile for anyone who addresses
her, which is a huge tell tale sign. I am at Connaught-Cranmore level a lot and can see how respectfully the residents are treated. Activities were always a big thing for me when it came to my sister's care and I can honestly say the activities team really do go above and beyond to get residence involved. In my sister's case, karaoke and movement activities being a favourite. I would love to mention each and every staff member but the list would go on and on. You all know who you are and I can't express how much you are all appreciated. I also have to mention the laundry team.

My mum has been here for 7 weeks for assessment. The care she has received since being here has been outstanding. All staff at all levels and responsibilities are happy, friendly and kind. The management has an open-door policy and are always there to talk to the relatives. They are wonderful and extremely
helpful. The laundry team and domestic staff do a great job, keeping everything looking and smelling fabulous. The home provides fabulous stimulating activities twice a day. This puts a smile on my mum's face - one that I haven't seen in previous months. She is cared for and provided for, I couldn't ask for a better place for her to be. They do it all, even the little personal touches - such as providing her with a home-baked cake, singing to her and putting a banner on her door for her birthday, these make all the difference. I will be very sad if my mum has to move from this amazing place. Thank you to everyone there for making it such a wonderful home.

As a regular visitor, I am immediately welcomed by the staff who address me by name. The environment is light, open and inviting, I can visit at any time without restriction. Residents appear comfortable and are treated with respect and dignity, many interact easily with me despite me not knowing them
personally. We often lunch downstairs, and staff are willing to accommodate requests for wheelchair use and a different lunch venue. My resident appears happy and interacts easily, staff always address him personally when passing. It is always a pleasure to visit this establishment.

Gainsborough Hall Care Home

from Susan C (Daughter of Resident) published on 27 August 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Gainsborough Hall is just as a care home should be; caring. This starts with the manager who manages the home brilliantly. The staff are down-to-earth, supportive, approachable, and really do seem to care about the residents and respect their individual needs.
Gainsborough Hall is very clean, spacious
and more like a hotel than a care home. The en-suite rooms are beautiful and airy, the food is good and plentiful, and there are always activities for the residents to join in. The location is also great; close to parks, shops, cafes, pubs, and restaurants and only a 15-minute walk from the train station.
Visitors are always welcomed with a smile and can enjoy a coffee with the residents in the lovely reception area (which is big enough to manoeuvre a wheelchair).
We visited a number of care homes before choosing Gainsborough Hall, and feel very pleased and confident we made the right decision.

Asprey Court Care Home

from Tricia D (Wife of Resident) published on 30 July 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5

My husband's first time in respite care and what an experience he had. The home was given a full profile of how he was, his behaviours etc. I called the home to ask how he was doing to be told he was refusing his medications, refusing to eat and refusing personal care. He keeps going into other client's
rooms even though we have told him not to and we've even put his name on his room door.
My husband who has dementia needs coaxing to do things like personal care, I've never had problems with his eating, he's a roamer and he has to be coaxed to take his medication at times. In new settings he can be difficult and aggressive l admit never denied it. So l am disappointed in this care home with a behavioural unit that couldn't cater for his needs at a time when he was in a strange environment and not able to understand what was happening to him and unable to read his name on his room door. l say shame on you for not providing him with the care, patience, and understanding he deserves.

We are extremely happy with the care and support Dad receives from the staff at Gainsborough. Dad's behaviour can at times be very challenging which the staff manage well with kindness and understanding. They have built a great relationship with him and he always seems comfortable and at ease with them.
Dad is diabetic and is unable to use cutlery so meal times can be a challenge. But the team work hard to ensure he has a varied diet and ensure his condition is managed well.
Daily social activities take place every day which Dad has the opportunity to join in with.
In addition, I feel that I am personally well supported by the staff and manager. Dad was only in his early 60s when he was first diagnosed with dementia and the kindness shown to me personally during this time has been invaluable.

What a fantastic care home! Every effort has been made to ensure that Dad's move went as smoothly as possible, both for him, and for his family. After four weeks he has settled into the new routine and is being encouraged to involve himself in some of the many activities which take place on the ground
floor. He has a great relationship with his carers who are genuinely interested in him as an individual and take time to discuss shared interests (sport/travel) with him. He is also a big fan of the food which he says is like home-cooked food.

My husband has been a resident at Cannock Specialist Care Centre since February 2024. I can honestly say he has settled in well. He looks happy and has gained weight since he arrived there. I am so happy with the care he has received. The manager is always available if we have any concerns. One staff
member is amazing and works hard doing activities for the residents. The carers are doing a wonderful job and are kind and caring. So far I have nothing negative to say. I am just happy we found this home for my husband. Thank you so much for everything you are doing for my husband I appreciate it.

My dad has been a resident at this home since February this year. I am pleased to say that he settled in straight away which amazed us all as he was very unsettled before joining here. The home itself is beautiful, spacious bedrooms with kitchenettes and en-suites with lovely soft furnishings. The entertainment
is on most days of the week and they do a fab job of getting the residents to take part they all seem to enjoy it and look very happy as does my dad. The carers are so lovely and look after the residents well, they are always happy when we see them, and can't fault the care and love they show my dad. Thank you so much to the management and carers here we are very grateful for what you do.

My father has been at the Cannock Specialist Centre since February. Since being at the home, as a family, we have been able to take comfort in the fact that Dad is in the best place and receiving quality care. We feel listened to and empowered to make decisions in his best interests. The manager takes
the time to see us and to ensure that we are happy with the care provided. The staff are thoughtful, and caring and treat Dad with dignity. Dad has significant needs with his Alzheimer's however the inclusive practice means he is involved in daily activities. A member of staff in particular you are one in a million and the residents are so lucky to have you. Dad has regained his weight with the food on offer, the nursing team has proactively engaged with his medication and has reduced them where appropriate. I cannot praise this home enough and I highly recommend it. It has given us the home-from-home feeling that we love and we are very grateful to all the staff at this beautiful home.

My dad moved from a mental health hospital to Gainsborough with vascular dementia/Alzheimer's and we couldn’t be happier with the place and his progress.
We call it ‘Grandad's Hotel’ and it really does feel that way. It’s so spacious, clean but also has such a familial feel and the staff are always
so welcoming to me and my young family.
They offer enough for the residents to do but also really well-supported meals and rest time.
We’re so happy with all aspects of care and how well they look after Dad.

What an awful place. My mom had to stay here for 8 weeks. Upon arrival the place looks amazing, all mod cons and beautiful furnishings, believe me it is a case of fur coat no knickers.
Mom was there for rehabilitation after breaking her hip and was a high risk of falls, after 72 hours her 121 was taken
away, she “fell” and badly bruised her face, I am still waiting to see the accident form as no one could seem to explain what had happened, the bruises stayed for about 3 weeks in which time she had 4 more falls and was finally given her 121 back.
I say 121 but they were just sat on the phone not talking to her at all. Mom was rarely dressed which is not like her at all, there were a couple of times when I got there early afternoon and she was still lying in her bed and hadn’t been washed and had her own poo in her fingernails, absolutely disgusting so I washed her. She was slowly but surely losing her identity and dignity, I was so relieved when she finally moved to her new home.
