Review of

James Burns House

from Linda H (Sister of Resident) published on 21 April 2021
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

My sister has lived in James Burns House for several years now. After the change of moving from the family home, she has settled into James Burns very well. I could not have asked for more. The staff are very caring and look after my sister as I would wish. She was made very welcome when she first arrived
and feels quite at home now. The residents do not spend their time sat in a circle (unlike some places) but are entertained to their abilities, and when they are not in lockdown they are taken out on trips e.g. beach visits with a beach hut, theatres and shows, plus shopping trips and several more. Their rooms can be decorated as you wish and give some privacy if wanted. I must say that lockdown has been a credit to all the staff and the manager. They have followed strict rules throughout, to keep all residents safe. Not one resident has caught the virus! I feel this is good management and care. I recommend James Burns House as suitable for loved ones.

James Burns House

My sister moved to James Burns House nearly 2.5 years ago from West Sussex. From the moment we had the first viewing to the present day, the atmosphere at the home has been fantastic. The staff at the home have barely changed which is testament to how good a team I think they are. We have got to know
some staff better than others but all the staff seem dedicated to making the residents life as normal and enjoyable as it can be. We visit my sister quite often and the staff update us on anything we should know and if we can’t get there, they maintain communication with us via phone calls if necessary. My sister has had some troubled years prior to moving to Bournemouth but these are now becoming a distant memory. She has settled into James Burns House very well and we are delighted with the services the care home provides. I would wholly recommend them to anyone.

James Burns House

from Laura S (Daughter of Resident) published on 8 April 2021

James Burns House is a fantastic home. The care provided is brilliant and the carers generally love the residents like family. The home is all on one level which makes for easy access and movement for the residents. The bedrooms recently have been refurbished and from what I believe the social areas
are being refurbished too, this is good as the home was becoming dated. The home is clean, the food is good, the care given is fab and generally, all in all, I feel happy with everything.

James Burns House

from April W (Mother of Resident) published on 8 April 2021

My son has a rare brain disease and was looking for a care home for him.
Called and spoke to the team leader who was so lovely and invited me to visit the home, have a look around etc.
The Care home straight away had a lovely feel to it, literally like home.
She invited me to bring my son along
on another visit. We met the Deputy Manager, who was lovely too, my son really liked it, and didn't take long for him to choose his room! Clear to me some of the staff have worked there for years. Met the manager as well who again was very welcoming.
My son has been there now over one year, and loves it there! He is so happy, so cared for, an absolutely fantastic home. Any issues are always addressed, especially at the beginning when my son was settling in.
For everyone, it has been an unsettling time through Covid, but the home has done all it can to keep me visiting my son when safe to do so. The home to date has not had one case of covid! as its run and managed so well and efficiently.

Review of

The Grange

from Ann Y (Mother of Resident) published on 7 April 2021
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

With having no access inside The Grange for a year because of the pandemic, this review does not fit into any particular month.
I find the permanent staff know my son and can give him the personal care he requires, although the habit of moving staff from unit to unit means that the consistency required
is lost, and it is even more difficult to maintain with agency staff.
The one downside over the last year has been a lack of internet access in my son’s room. Unfortunately, he is unable to afford the monthly cost of broadband, and although there is the internet for resident’s use in a communal room, my son is unable to get himself there.

We looked at many homes in the South of England. The Grange was by far the best then and is still very satisfactory. The location of The Grange and the fact that it was built especially for disabled persons commends it. The staff are the most important part of the caring business, and The Grange staff
are very good. The health of my son has been very good for the last 12-years that he has been a resident. My wife and I relocated to the area to be able to support our son.

The Grange

from Mark A (Husband of Resident) published on 7 April 2021

Whilst "The Grange" is not a particularly modern building, that is of little import. What matters is the care and attention given to residents by management and staff. Using this criterion, the care given has always been of a very high standard. My wife having been treated with understanding, kindness
and compassion at all times. My wife and I are indebted to all those at "The Grange" for their effort in providing and maintaining such high standards. I would recommend "The Grove" to others without hesitation.

Our daughter has now been at The Grange for eight years.
We have been very happy with the care and support she has received.
Recently we have been especially grateful for the help and care given to her in these very challenging times.
The Grange appear to have adhered to Government guidelines,
which ultimately have kept her safe.
Everybody at The Grange has done everything they can to keep her entertained while her normal outside activities have been curtailed.
