We looked at a number of homes before choosing Inwood for our dad. We wanted him to be somewhere homely, welcoming, safe and caring and where we could visit freely and all feel at home. Inwood is just what we wanted! Although dad was only resident for a few months before he passed away, dad was really
well cared for and mum welcomed to visit and be part of the Inwood family. The home is bright, clean and cheerful and the staff are person centred, treating each resident as an individual.

It has been a lovely place for mum taking the stress out of everyday living whilst she got better and stronger. Beautiful room, building, bright and cheerful, very clean in every area and friendly, professional staff. (special note for staff in the office and reception). Mum has loved the food and has
looked forward to her meal and put weight on for the first time in many years. "Well done Inwood"

My dad went into Walton Manor when Mum had a fall. He has dementia and cannot cope on his own. The staff were amazing, helping him to settle in. He is now there permanently and is so much more content than when he lived at home. He has much more social contact as well as activities available. The staff
pick up much quicker if he gets a water infection but he now drinks more so we have less issues.
Overall Dad is in better health and more content now at Walton Manor. The staff are very friendly and caring. We are delighted with his care.

Both my Mum and Dad were at Inwood House from 2018, my Dad passed away in 2022 aged 96 and my Mum in February 2024 aged 99. Since they moved in they both enjoyed their time there, my Dad was always very enthusiastic about the food. I visited regularly and the staff, many of whom recognised me and were
always kind and helpful and went out of their way to make the visit meaningful for everyone. Before I chose Inwood House for my Mum, she had been discharged into other homes and when I visited, she usually pleaded for me to take her out. At Inwood the facilities were nice and the staff ratio meant my parents got the attention and interaction when they needed or wanted it, the staff all knew them personally by name. If my time comes when I need caring for I hope I can some somewhere like Inwood House.

All the staff are really friendly and welcoming. My dad has been in Inwood House for a year this month and he is still happy being there. Staff seem to genuinely care about the residents. My dad often mentions the carers do a good job of looking after him and he says that they understand his needs.

I chose Inwood House after visiting 5 other care homes in Wakefield. I knew as soon as I walked in that it was the place for mum. The staff are so lovely and caring, mum talks about the care she receives and how the staff spend time with her. I attended a family event yesterday with the event's coordinator
and the community nurse, it was very informative and enjoyable, mum really enjoyed it, she introduced me to her friends and interacted with other residents' families. Mum's room has just been redecorated in the colour she chose and she is thrilled with it. Mum's happy so I am happy.

I visited Walton Manor last year with a friend to see her mother. On first impression was very good, felt warm, friendly with attentive caring staff. Most of the residents doing armchair exercises to music. The lady in charge was very attentive and extremely lovely with the residents and they were laughing
and really enjoying it. As a visitor the staff were very welcoming and I felt my friend's mum was very well cared for.

Inwood House

from Tony M (Son of Resident) published on 12 December 2023
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mother lived at Inwood House from August 2017 until her death recently in November 2023. She entered with mild dementia and moderate care needs, but over the years, both the dementia and her physical and medical needs increased significantly.
The staff at Inwood House were absolutely superb in
the levels of care, compassion and love that they showed to my mother throughout her entire period with them. As her care needs increased, and her ability to communicate suffered, they continued to treat her like a person and part of the 'Inwood family'. The account was taken at all times for her frailty and the necessary changes in her diet due to problems with swallowing.
During the last few weeks, when she was bedbound and had difficulty even drinking, she received near-constant care and attention. I could not have asked for a better environment for Mum to live with her dementia and, ultimately, to pass away.

Reply from Donna Henderson, Home Manager at Inwood House

My dad has received such lovely care over the years he has lived at Walton Manor but especially recently when he hasn't been in good health. The staff are caring, patient, understanding, and always find time for a chat with Dad which is really heartening as he spends a great deal of time by himself.
He feels safe, cared for, and content in his home.
Thank you to the wonderful Manor team.

The care home is in need of decorating and repair in some areas.
The smell on some days makes your eyes water and is unacceptable in this day and age.
On the whole, staff are good and caring but basic hygiene sometimes lacking. Staff seen eating residents' meals from food trolley. Buzzers not answered
in a timely manner. Overall, not worth the high cost of care.

Reply from Donna Henderson, Home Manager at Inwood House

Thank you for your review, we’re sorry to hear your concerns about the home.

We have an extensive upgrade programme already underway which includes decorating the dining room, lounge area, selected bedrooms and general areas of the home. There have been updates sent to all relatives and residents about the ongoing work.

Thank you for your comment about the care staff, we are proud of the care and compassion they offer our residents.

We endeavour to maintain high standards of cleanliness at all times and are not aware of any issues being raised by other residents or their families. It’s disappointing that you’ve never raised this with us previously.

More than one resident may access our Nurse Call system at one time, meaning there may appear to be a prolonged tone on occasion. Our staff response times are generally excellent.

If you have any further concerns, management are contactable 7 days a week.

All the staff have shown genuine care for my dad. They take time to build relationships and show concern for his wellbeing. The manager has always been happy to discuss any concerns we have had and worked in partnership to identify appropriate solutions.

The home is well furnished and has a lovely

garden where we can sit. Dad is very comfortable in his room. Dad enjoys the food. I have already recommended the home to other people.

My mum had a 3-week respite care at Walton Manor. She was apprehensive as all she could remember was her mum going in a home in the 1970s. How different was this going to be?
Mum enjoyed her stay and was sad when it came to an end and would be very happy to revisit her friends occasionally, to revisit
for more respite (when needed) and when living at home becomes too much, will be very happy to become a permanent resident in the future. She loved the carers, the residents, the social activities, and just the fact that she can talk all day long! A marvellous experience for her both now and hopefully in the future.

from D S (Daughter of Resident) published on 8 June 2023

Dad was a resident at Walton Manor for 21 months. He was well cared for and well-fed. (He enjoyed his food). The management team and the staff knew him and our family well and he was treated as an individual and with respect at all times. The accommodation was upgraded with as little disruption to the
residents as possible while he lived there and the garden is accessible and well-maintained. He loved that space.
There are organised activities for the residents to join several times a week, but sometimes it's difficult for the staff to balance one resident's care requirements with another's need for support to access the activity. Where family members can visit regularly and support such things, they are welcomed and included as part of the Walton Manor community.
Of course, there were hiccups, niggles and the occasional issue, but every member of staff was prepared to listen and work towards a mutually acceptable solution. In Dad's last few weeks at Walton Manor, care was exemplary.
