La Luz

On behalf of my mother, I would like to express my gratitude to all the staff in La Luz. My mum has been a resident in La Luz for 9 months. Although my mum cannot speak English, the staff here are all caring and friendly and they can look after my mum very well. I could still remember the days when
my mum was in hospital waiting for a place to care home, she was terribly emotional and I kept receiving calls from hospital almost every night. Fortunately, she has become calm since moving in La Luz and settled well. The environment here is pleasant and warm. And the staff here have put extra effort to help understand my mum's needs. Thank you!

We are also impressed by all the amazing activities provided by La Luz, such as the beach outing, Christmas gathering, in-house baking, etc. My mum is definitely happy with outdoor activities!

We are grateful for the caring and professional support La Luz has given to my mother.

The manager and care staff are superb at this home. The local authority placed mum here and the only reason she has now moved is due to it being so far away from her family.
The staff are exemplary, very attentive and mum didn’t want to leave there. The manager extremely efficient and all the staff
are lovely.

Reply from Usha Prasanna, Registered Manager at La Luz

Thank you very much for your kind words.

We miss caring for your mother as she was such a delightful person. We hope she settles well in her new care home closer to her loved ones so that you can all visit her regularly and take her out for a meal/shopping etc.

Kind regards.

My brother Chris was placed by social services into La Luz 6 months ago. I did not choose the home and as I am not local had never heard of it. I would however definitely recommend this home and I would not have chosen any other one. I visit at all different times and sometimes without notice so can
definitely say that the care is consistently amazing. Chris can have challenging behaviour and the patience and kindness of all staff in dealing with him in a professional way is exceptional. The home never has ‘an old people's home’ smell. Always spotlessly clean. Covid safety guidelines are rigorously kept to which has resulted in no case in the home. The staff are consistent with no agency staff which I find lovely. I have got to know them all and they have always shown my self and Chris great kindness. I am often there at meal times and the food is home-cooked to a high standard. The Manger is a very professional and caring manager who never finds anything too much trouble

I am pleased with the care that my mother receives. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is some clutter in the conservatory and some of the lights could be brighter. However, I understand that some of these things are being looked at.

The owners and managers at Manor House were very kind and extremely helpful when I had to move my mother from her previous care home when it closed down at short notice during the pandemic.
The staff were very caring and made my mother's last few months as comfortable as possible, I could not have
been happier with her care.

From when dad first became a resident at La Luz he was made very welcome by the attentive staff. You could see that this was not just a job for them but a passion to give the very best in care to all of its residents. This has become dad's second family, this is evident that he has not asked once to
go back home to his old house. The Manger and the team always make our family feel welcome when we go to see dad and are happy to answer any questions we may have. Putting a loved one in a home is whiteout doubt one of the hardest things to do in life, however, it was made so much easier when you see the dignity, respect, and level of care they show to their residents. I hope dad can continue to stay here for as long as possible before his condition requires the need for a nursing home. A heartwarming thanks to everyone at La Liz for their care, compassion, and attention to detail and for looking after dad.

I visit an old friend regularly - usually once a week - and am impressed by care shown to him and by the friendly atmosphere of the home I contrast to the impersonal nature of many larger homes. The recent introduction of fresher food for the meals is a great improvement, appreciated by my friend.
I would recommend the home to anyone.

We looked carefully at many nursing homes for our elderly cousin to live in, and got a warm feeling about Manor House, which we are glad to have acted on.
Our cousin lived for seven years at Manor House, receiving caring, personal attention. It was always a pleasant place for myself and my young son
to visit, with a very pretty garden and a friendly resident ginger cat.
The carers have been patient, loving and sensitive to our cousin's needs, keeping us informed of any medical issues that have arisen.
We are grateful to the staff of Manor House for taking such good care of our cousin over the years.

My 90-year-old cousin stayed at the Manor House Care Home, Morden for the whole of June and July. The care home staff did a wonderful job. They nursed my cousin back to health, and arranged GP and hospital visits as necessary. By early August, my cousin was able to return to her home where she is now.
Special thanks to the management and all the other staff who were so caring.

Mum seems happy in Manor House. Mum has dementia and loves the staff. The staff are amazing and treat Mum with dignity and respect. The food looks lovely but unfortunately, Mum eats very little, because of her dementia, but loves her puddings.

Reply from Karen April Doria - Raguindin, Senior Registered Manager at Manor House

Dear Karen,
Thank you so much for your time and wonderful feedback.
Since Manor House is having fresh cooked foods these days, the aroma of dishes served every day is inviting and appetizing to the residents, including your mum.
Kind Regards,
Karen

My mum has been a resident in La Luz for a couple of years and is happy there. The recent change of management has really taken the home to another level. The mental health of the residents has really been of paramount importance - regular activities including art, puzzles, dance and even a fashion
show keep the spirits of residents lifted. My mum has been so much happier with her days filled with fun. Communication has been brilliant in these difficult covid times when I can’t visit and live so far away. Facebook films helping family feel part of their life and FaceTime calls organised by staff really lift mum’s spirits and mine too. This home is top of my list for anyone needing to know their family are being well cared for. Great peace of mind if your family are part of La Luz.

Mum, initially, went into La Luz for respite care in August, but it quickly became evident that she now needed 24-hour care. Mum settled in really quickly, but the more I got to know the Owner/Manager and staff, I shouldn't have been surprised. Residents are part of their wider family and treated as
such with the care and dignity that I was used to giving.
Mum is really happy, feeling at home, which is a real comfort to me being her main carer for many years. It was absolutely the right choice for her, as it is relatively small, compared to other local care homes, and has a real homely feel suiting Mum to a T. Although small, her room has the essentials and, more importantly, staff on hand able to quickly see to her needs.
Having Dementia/Alzheimer's, regular activities give her stimulation. There are times when she feels tired and not feeling up to it, but has the choice of taking herself off to her room for her quiet time and rest. She loves the meals, so wouldn't stay too long!

I am staying here on respite care and I am really enjoying my stay. I am very well looked after and the home manager also helped me to look for a nursing home as I now require more nursing care. Food here is excellent and all treat me with respect and care. Even though my bedroom is small, it is fresh
and clean always. The activities organised are entertaining and everyone gets involved in playing games, puzzles, quizzes etc. Due to my condition, I need to move into a nursing home otherwise I would like to have stayed here permanently.

My mum was a resident at La Luz for over a year but it was not an easy start for her as she had Alzheimer's and was virtually blind. The original management team looked after her well but Mum didn’t settle for a long time. With the change of management last autumn, came a change of medication and regime
and the difference in her was apparent to all. From this point, Mum finally began to accept her new surroundings and was much calmer. She was actively encouraged to take part in the activities on offer. Mum sadly began to decline in the spring and the staff made this time as peaceful and calm as possible for both Mum and myself. For this, I cannot thank the team at La Luz enough. Mum passed away in June from Alzheimer's but I take comfort in the fact that in the last few months of her life, she was as well cared for as if she were a part of their family. They gave her the comfort and dignity that she deserved and for this, I will be forever grateful them.

My mother has been a resident for 20 months. Well, what can I say? La Luz is a wonderful place for my mum. She is very well looked after. Mum has come on so much since being at La Luz, she now manages to lots more for herself. Her walking has improved greatly. Her overall health has improved. The staff
at La Luz are amazing. My siblings and I are very grateful to the staff at La Luz for taking such good care of our mum. We have seen so many changes at La Luz, which are great for the residents. The home is always clean, the residents always look very well cared for. La Luz have now introduced more activities which I know is great for Mum and the others residents. I was worried when we had to send Mum into residential care, I thought this would be so bad for her and to begin with I wondered if we had done the right thing, but she started to get much better. In Oct/Nov 2019 the home was taken over by new staff. Since the take over Mum has gone from strength to strength. Thanks.

I stayed here for a respite period to gain confidence after my stroke recovery. I am pleased to say the staff are very caring and they treated me as a family member. I enjoyed the food and chatting to staff, and they helped me to walk again. The manager treats everyone as her family and it is a hard-working
family who cares about everyone and everything. The food was very good and I enjoyed most of the items on the menu.

My mother was taken into La Luz as emergency respite at the beginning of lockdown, so was all very rushed and last minute, all I had to go on was how I felt about the contact over the phone which was exceptional. The Manager is so kind, caring and helpful nothing is a problem she made me feel at ease
immediately. My mother is now a permanent resident due to her needing 24hr care and on speaking to her on the phone most days she always sounds happy and content which is a huge relief. On the times that I have visited all the residents are well presented and happy and all the precautions have been put in place to protect all against COVID. I can’t thank the Manager and the staff at La Luz enough.

I have been visiting a friend for a while. She is looked after very well, and the staff are kind and helpful. One of the staff accompanied her to a hospital appointment. There are activities provided every weekday morning which my friend enjoys. There were barbecues in the garden during the summer,
and visits to the Cafe opposite. The room isn't very big but pleasant and has a washbasin. I would recommend people to La Luz. The manager is kind and very efficient. Nothing is too much trouble.

I don't live anywhere near the care home, so most of my contact with my mum and the care home is done over the telephone. I have found the care home staff very helpful and are happy to answer any questions I have.
During this time of covid, I've been very happy with all the precautions the home have
put in place to keep my mum safe when I have been able to visit.
Mum's room is quite small, but she has everything she needs in there.
