I thoroughly enjoy being at hawthorn court, The staff are lovely. My goal when coming to Hawthorn Court was to gain confidence in my mobility, which the staff have been amazing. I feel much more confidence. The food is nice. Had a lovely pork meal on Sunday.

My mother has been a resident here for 18 months and the team are fantastic. After a few initial concerns that were rectified quickly, we are very happy with the level of care that my mother is receiving.
The manager particularly goes above and beyond in all areas and is one of the most caring and
empathetic people I've ever met. We have total peace of mind that my mother is being cared for and, just as importantly, respected, by all of the team at Hawthorn Court.
The home is flexible on visiting, and during inevitable outbreaks of Covid the safeguarding that's in place installs confidence that the welfare of the residents is of the utmost importance.
Whether it's on the phone or when visiting, there is always someone on hand to speak to or ask questions.

We are very happy with the care my Dad receives at Hawthorn Court, he’s been residing there for 12 months now due to Alzheimer’s.
It’s a small care home so it feels homely and intimate. My dad is very well looked after by all the staff there. They are vigilant when my dad is poorly and keep us informed
if there are any concerns. We feel confident he is safe and we are welcome at any time there to see my dad.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review - and for your kind words. It is our pleasure to support Dad and I am pleased to see that you are welcomed when you visit the Home. I will share your review with the Manager and her team as they will be delighted to hear this.

Wanted to thank you for looking after my wife’s mother.
She passed away on the 4th of September this year and could not have received better care during her stay there.
The staff could not have been more helpful and caring to both my mother-in-law and our family.
All the staff were great but one
member of staff, in particular, guided us through this most difficult time and we shall be forever grateful.

Reply from Bethan Evans, Managing Director at Hawthorn Court

Thank you so much for your lovely review and your kind words; which is much appreciated. It was our pleasure to be able to support this lady and yourselves as family members, at this very difficult time. We will share this feedback with our staff, as we thank them on your behalf.

Ocean Living

from Nicol W (Brother of Resident) published on 17 June 2022
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5

My sister was the youngest resident at Ocean Living, (aged 70), and lived there for quite a few years. She fell at the home and was taken to hospital with three broken toes. She was in the hospital for about five weeks as she had developed complications, which resulted in her passing away on May 28,
2022. The only time Ocean Living have contacted us was to ask us to come and clear her room, not how she was. This was even before she passed away. The home (although told), has not been in touch to offer condolences or sympathy. I do not blame the staff, but I blame the manager as he has shown no 'Duty of Care' as my sister was still a resident. All the manager was concerned about was if the home would be paid for that month as after a few weeks the payments would stop.
I find their attitude disgusting, for a home that is supposed to care for the elderly as their only concern is money-related.
Would I recommend Ocean Living, certainly not.

Reply from Craig Thorburn, Manager at Ocean Living

The resident in question was a joy to have and enjoyed her six year stay with us making many friends with residents and staff. We enjoyed many happy times together and was particularly good at quizzes sharing her general knowledge.
In relation to the review from her brother, we are very disappointed that he feels this way after taking such good care and focusing on person-centred care. After losing some mobility my involvement with both Physiotherapy, D/N, CPN and GP who all had input in her care plan, sadly she fell shortly afterwards.
We as a Residential Care Home have a duty of care and an ambulance was called and the resident was taken to A&E. The resident in question was not in a position to return as it would not have been safe due to her mobility as confirmed with safeguarding, this was the correct decision until such a time there was an improvement.
We were in regular contact with the ward, physiotherapist and discharge team we also made numerous attempts to call her brother without success.
We were then informed after three weeks via the hospital the resident in question had been assessed as nursing and as a Residential Home discharged from our care.
It was not until ten days later when her brother came to collect residents’ belongings that we were sadly informed of her passing.
It is regrettable to receive an inaccurate review and continue to provide tailored person-centred care with all care professionals and family involved.

From the first meeting with the Manager, she listened and understood our father’s needs and empathised. The family felt they could ask anything and she gave us so much of her time. There was flexibility on the selection of a room. We received advice on setting up the room and excellent service from
the maintenance man. He was so willing and helpful. The staff welcomed our father and all his children. He was well cared for and the staff were sensitive to his privacy and independence. He enjoyed all the meals and was allowed to choose his seat both in the Dining Room and the Lounge. Excellent communication was maintained with the family, especially with the challenges of Covid. The family were pleased with how quickly our father settled. There was flexibility on visits and we were made to feel comfortable with him. When our father’s health deteriorated, the staff gave their all, managing his care; taking advice from doctors and paramedics; constantly keeping the family informed.

My Mum has been resident at Hawthorn Court since December 2019. She has settled in really well and has been looked after by the staff. They are all very caring and friendly and great with the residents and their families. Mum loves the home-cooked food and the home is spotlessly clean. Would definitely
recommend.

I am pleased with the care given to my mum. She has gained weight since being here and looks well. There are activities and outings which my mother enjoys in the moment. I would definitely recommend the home to other people in the same circumstances and I have.

Very caring staff. They took great interest in Mum and were very kind and considerate. The manager stayed with Mum for several hours after she should have finished work to make Mum feel settled. I cannot praise the staff at Hawthorn Court enough. Excellent food, home cooked and healthy and freshly baked
cakes available regularly.

You can't fault the place, especially the staff. It's incredibly friendly and welcoming and every resident is well looked after. I wouldn't want anything but the best care for my nan and that's what she receives here. All of the carers are very engaging and it always seems like a happy place.
