The care, attention and support given to my husband from the start is impressive. I discuss my husband with the staff regularly so that they understand and are able to engage with him fully. He receives their full support at all times giving me peace of mind that he is safe and well cared for. Coupled
with that, the staff are very welcoming and supportive of my family.

The staff, carers and nurses are very good, and you can tell that they really care - it's not just a job for them. The nurses, in particular, are excellent with their support and help. My wife is very young to be in a nursing home as she is recovering from a brain tumour. I have personally found this
very hard to deal with, but Kippington have really reached out and helped.

Mum was very poorly when she arrived at Kippington Nursing Home. All the staff were so kind and looked after her so well. I've got nothing but praise for them all. From the moment you walked into reception, you were greeted with a smile and an offer of tea or coffee and a slice of cake. The nursing
staff all cared for my mother so well for the short time that she was a resident there. I can't thank you all enough.

Firtree House Nursing Home

from Ben D (Son of Resident) published on 19 December 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

What immediately stands out at Firtree - the staff hold their heads up. Ready to engage, keen to help, look you in the eye. Always with a smile. Prior to arriving at Firtree, our experience of care homes taught us to expect a battle. We've had none of this at Firtree. It's refreshing to talk things
though in a calm and measured manner, knowing the appropriate actions will be carried out. We chat with the staff with great warmth from both sides, although the staff remain utterly professional.

My dad's care is attentive, for which he is appreciative. He is content and is thankful of the efforts from all concerned. My mum, a regular visitor, is adamant should she ever need admission to a nursing home, she's going to Firtree! The daily activities the home offers residents exceed expectations. Big events are hosted every month or so, with families invited - again, expectations exceeded, so no surprise there's a big turnout. Management and staff are key. Amazing place, well done Firtree.

Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at Firtree House Nursing Home

Thank you so much for your amazing feedback, it has made our day! We're so thrilled to know that our team's dedication has made such an impact on you and your family. We're sorry that you've all had such a difficult time with your dad's care in the past, but we're honoured to have helped him on a new journey and his gratitude means the world to us! Your family are cherished members of our community and, should she ever need care, your mum would certainly be welcomed with open arms! Thank you again for your absolutely heartwarming review, your trust in our team means so much to us!

The majority of staff are very caring and compassionate and hygiene and care standards within the home are excellent. There have been a couple of occasions where I have had to prompt staff to encourage Mum more. Instead of allowing her to stay in bed for days at a time. I am happy to stay this appears
to have improved recently. Currently, we are having difficulties treating Mum for an infection within the home which she has been suffering from for longer than I think is acceptable. I hope this is resolved soon. (All care homes are overpriced.)

The staff here are very pleasant and kind to my Grandad. They help him when he needs something (even if he is stubborn!). He says the staff talk to him and have a fun chat and like his jokes.
The drinks in reception are good and also the snacks. It's nice and warm in winter!
A comment by my Grandad
is: "The food can be spicy/salty and unpleasant he can't eat it, not nice for the elderly pallet." - PS We love the cat!

Reply from Artur Adamski, Home Manager at Kippingtons Nursing Home

Thank you so much for sharing your feedback with us, we really appreciate your comments on our lovely team members - your grandad is a joy for them to care for. We're very sorry to hear about the food being too spicy/salty for him, it is very important to us to cater for our resident's dietary requirements and preferences so we will address this with our hospitality team and ensure the food is more palatable for your grandad. Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback with us!

Kippingtons Nursing Home

from Janet S (Daughter of Resident) published on 8 November 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

The residents' activities have been lacking due to staff sickness. Although, when the activities coordinator is working, he instigates games for the residents. The activities coordinator is a 'one in a million' man. He treats the residents with real respect and humour. There are many great nursing staff
who look after the residents and they inform me of any change with Mum. It takes a team to work in a care home and I feel lucky that Mum is a resident at Kippingtons.

Reply from Home Manager, Home Manager at Kippingtons Nursing Home

Thank you so much for your feedback, Janet, we really appreciate your recognition of our team members and their dedication - our activities coordinator certainly is 'one in a million' and we're so lucky to have him! We appreciate you addressing issues with the consistency of activities - unfortunately, short staffing due to sickness is something that can't always be helped and we do our best to adapt and keep the activities schedule as regular and consistent as possible. Thank you again for your feedback, it means a lot to our team!

On arrival, good parking, always a space. Welcome at reception is excellent - a friendly greeting and smile. Offered drink, cake and fruit. Downstairs, residents look well cared for and happy. Some watching TV, others playing games or listening to music. Sufficient staff available to care for everyone's
needs. The care, Miss Kippington, makes the place seem like home! My friend's room is a good size, comfortable, light and well-decorated with TV and radio. Very clean and warm. My friend is clean and suitably dressed, comfortable, relaxed and happy to be living at Kippingtons Nursing Home. Staff are kind, friendly and helpful and treat the residents with dignity and respect. A pleasant, secure and safe place to be.

I am totally astonished by the attitude of every member of staff I have met here. Nothing is too much trouble. The nurse always updates me on his welfare. It is like a family here. The entertainment and activities here are practically constant. So much stimulation for the residents. The food - amazing!
What comes out of a tiny kitchen is so good I could eat here myself. I couldn't ask for more for him. In fact, putting my name on the waiting list for when my time comes.

After Mum had been in hospital for several weeks Mom was transferred to Firtree House. The staff were so welcoming and made her feel at ease and calm in yet another new surrounding. One week on and I cannot speak highly enough of each and every member of staff I have met. They are led by the manager
who is simply incredible with what she does - her door is always open. She clearly has a passion for excellence and will not have anything less in Firtree. A calm, safe, and peaceful environment with love and care is exactly what Mum needs and this is at the heart of Firtree. I wanted to have shelving and pictures put up in Mum's room so she could have her special memories placed around her. The gentleman did this without hesitation. When I walked in I was bowled over to see how they had placed all of Mum's ornaments so beautifully on the shelves. This has made Mum feel so at home - isn't that what is and should be at the heart of everything which it clearly is at Firtree?

After a traumatic move - home to the hospital to Firtree House. My Mother had deteriorated and was bedbound. However, the care received at the home was very good and she improved considerably - although still bedbound. The staff has always been very kind to Mum and me. From the managers to the care

Firtree House Nursing Home

from K R (Daughter of Resident) published on 19 April 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5

My mother was only there for 3-4 days. She was transported to the care home on a Monday, and was alert and aware of her surroundings, as told to me by the nurse on duty at the time.
I saw her Tuesday, and she was almost completely unresponsive. Eyes closed. The only movement she made was to wipe her
mouth after coughing up phlegm if I placed a tissue in her hand.
Wednesday, bedridden but slightly more with it, she told me she had to wet herself because she couldn't make anyone hear her. I asked staff to provide a way for her to call for assistance.
Thursday, I saw she had been given a box on the table beside her bed, which she couldn't see or reach. I found someone to help, who brought a cord to attach to the box with a button she could press with her thumb to call for assistance.
She died later that evening.
The bouquet my daughter sent from Canada, which arrived Tuesday, had been placed in a vase just hours before she died.
People were kind but I felt their care was substandard.
