My nan has been at Valley Court for 2 months now and she likes to refer to being here as being on holiday! She has a new lease of life and it’s nice to know how happy she is here. We don’t have to worry about her and all the staff are amazing! Always going above and beyond, they treat all the residents
like family. There is always a story for her to tell when we go to visit her. Couldn’t recommend this care home enough.

Reply from Home Manager, Manager at Valley Court

We are really pleased with your positive feedback. We feel that we are one big happy family here and that is easy to see through the care we deliver. Our care home is a place where we share laughter and joy with our residents, and I am glad to hear that your nan has found a new lease of life. Thank you for your kind words.

My mum was in the care home and the staff did not do a very good job. My mom was not looked after well and it was very difficult to get anyone to help with my mum and it was not a good place to go to.

Reply from Jamie O'Connell, Staff at Valley Court

Really disappointed to read this review as we aim and strive to go the extra mile when caring for loved ones. We have looked back at the records when your mother left us to go to another care home more than 10 months ago and we did everything to accommodate and care for you and family members, from the kitchen staff, carers and activity team. It is hard when large families all have a singular idea of how care is delivered. but we give care based on individual needs and assessments from professionals and deliver this to our best abilities while making it person-centred. We are sorry you felt the need to leave this rating with no explanation for each point rated at 1 star. But rest assured we will continue to audit and check on all areas to make sure we are giving quality service and care.

I try to visit my sister as often as I can and always find her being well cared for. The staff I find go out of their way to look after their residents, very friendly for what I have seen, in my visits. I also find the home very clean, I was there today 19/8/23 and found all well.

My father went to Valley Court two months ago following a stay in hospital after being diagnosed with dementia, all the staff gave outstanding care to my dad and always found time to talk to myself, my mother and my brother. My father has been at Valley Court for just over two years. He recently turned 100 and, despite his health, the home enabled it to be a really lovely, memorable day. Nothing was too much trouble. All the people there are very caring and this is evident in the way he has been looked after and cared for.

My mother has been a resident of The Hurstway since February 2023. I cannot sufficiently express our gratitude to the staff team for everything they have done for our mother. They are a fantastic team, well-managed and incredibly committed. The home has a warm and friendly feel. Communication with us
is fantastic and nothing is too much trouble for them. My brother and I wish to thank them for their dedication and we cannot recommend the home highly enough. Should you need to find an establishment to care for an elderly relative we would readily suggest giving the Hurstway a call and visiting.

In general, the staff were as helpful as they thought they could be. Unfortunately, I took my dad out for a few hours and came back to a dirty room, his breakfast plate and drinks were exactly where he had left them, bed sheets unchanged, nothing washed up.
Losing all items of clothing. No one seemed
to know what was going on, couldn’t tell me if he had had a shower or if he had been offered a shower and then declined. Slept in his clothes that he wore all day.
Excuses were made as to why he had no clothes, no PJs. I was told it’s the family’s job to label clothes, however, I don’t live in the same country so unclear how I was going to do that when this was my first visit. It’s very disappointing.

Reply from Care home manager, Care home manager at Valley Court

Thank you for your feedback. It’s disappointing to read this review, as you can see we generally receive feedback the opposite to this. The manner in which you found Dad's room is way below the standards we expect in our services, this has been addressed with the team that we’re on that particular day. I’m glad following this review you decided to come and raise your concerns with myself directly, this has allowed me to look further into your concerns and address these as I promised. As discussed, you witnessed Dad's refusal for care and support, Dad does have consent, however, the team should ensure all records of refusal are recorded, again this has been addressed with our team. Dad's care plan has now been reviewed with the information provided by yourself and hopefully, this will support the team to deliver the quality of care we aim to deliver each day. Apologies if you feel you were given excuses, as agreed our domestic team will label any clothes that require labelling.

My mother was admitted to Valley Court Care Home a few weeks ago. This was a concern for me as I had a very negative view on care homes. I am very pleased to say that this has now been proven to be completely incorrect.
Without exception, I have found all of the staff friendly, supportive and some
of the nicest people I have ever met. They are enthusiastic, caring and always exceed our expectations. I could write so many positive reviews on how I have found them and the care they provide to my mother, not to mention other residents. Also, It has to be said that I personally have had such fabulous support in helping me deal with the emotional impact of my mother's condition.
A significant highlight has to be that of the entertainment team, with support from other staff members, they have already provided us with such wonderful memories which have lifted our whole family at a time when we have felt so worried and concerned with such an amazing, positive impact on my mother!

When Hurstway Care Home was suggested as a possible place for Mom's care. we were very wary due to previous knowledge and some of the reviews we saw. We paid an on spec visit with literally five minutes warning and were pleasantly surprised. The manager showed us round answering any queries we had.
The vibe we got from the whole visit was a very positive one. Mum has been a resident since the end of April and we couldn't be happier with the care she is getting. Every single member of staff from cleaners, management, carers and kitchen staff do everything possible to make residents as comfortable and happy as possible

Became a resident at Hurstway Care Home on the 23rd February 2022. It was my first experience of being in a home. l was made welcome and staff were friendly and helpful from the start. I got settled into my room and became more aware of the routine. All staff, from management to carers, were really
helpful and gave me full attention. Been here for fifteen months and it has become my home. l am happy here and really grateful for the love and kindness they have shown me. One of the beautiful ladies at Hurstway reassured me and took me out after years of being indoors. The activities lady has been super great and never fails to put a smile on all of our faces. She made this place very bright for us and therefore I am thankful for her. I have loads of friends here and a lot of company to keep me going. I love it here and l hope to remain here, at Hurstway, the rest of my days.

It is always heartbreaking to make the decision as a family to place your mother into care. We could not provide 24/7 care, for my mother's complex needs. But the Hurstway Care Home do.
As a family we could not be happier with the planning, support and handover provided by the home's Manager. She
promised us our mother would be in safe, caring hands. She was right! The staff are all wonderful, thoughtful, caring and make our mother very happy.
In my mother's words 'the staff are lovely, very caring, I could not wish to be anywhere better'.
We can't thank the staff enough for making our mother comfortable and happy.

We recently had to make the sad decision to put my nan into a nursing home due to her declining dementia. We, as a family, went and looked at many different nursing homes. This was the best nursing home we found. The staff and manager were so friendly towards us and the residents. My nan often refuses
care, and the staff do everything they can to help persuade her. They are always engaging with us about how best to help her the most. They are like the residents are family. The atmosphere is welcoming and calm. The residents are always dressed appropriately, and their clothes are clean. I have had dealings with quite a few homes, and I wish I had found this home sooner. I can't thank all the staff enough. They have made the hard decision easy and stress-free.

I placed my mother in the care of Cole Valley Nursing Home just before the lockdown. As self-financing, my mother's medical and personal care has been exemplary. Wonderful, caring staff that work in a very organised, clean environment that does not suffer from some of the clinical smell associated with

My mum was transferred to Valley Court in October 2021 with a terminal cancer diagnosis of 3 months, during Covid. As with many care homes, they had their trials and tribulations of Covid outbreaks and staff absence issues, but that did not detract from the care and dedication they provided for my mum
during her stay. Mum was as sharp as a razor and more than aware of her diagnosis, but the staff helped her navigate through her darkest hours with dignity and resolve. Mum was fortunate enough to spend the last few months of her life in the care of Valley Court, with the most caring of human beings anyone could wish for. From the nurses, carers, cooks and cleaners; every single one of them a ray of sunshine whom I am eternally indebted to. Thank you Valley Court.
