My mum has been a resident for the last 5 months. The care has been first class. I am always informed if anything happens with my Mum. The communication between the home/GP/and family is good. Facilities are first class.

From day one, my mother (and family) have been very happy with the support provided at Bilton Hall Nursing Home. Bilton Hall Nursing Home

from Linda W (Cousin of Resident) published on 11 September 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

Sadly my cousin died in July after 3 years in the care of Bilton Hall.
I found the staff to be very friendly, and approachable and, more importantly, they were kind and caring towards my cousin who always seemed pleased to see staff when they visited her room, despite her problems and being totally
bed-bound. I saw staff interacting with other residents in the public areas and they were always respectful and kind and spoke with good humour, obviously enjoying their work.
I was kept well informed of any issues, and on the occasion of a more serious problem was able to speak to the temporary manager about it.
I always felt the home was clean, none of the stale odours found in some care homes.
In the end, my cousin was well looked after, as I was at this difficult and upsetting time.

Bilton Hall is not the most modern home but it is homely and the staff create a lovely atmosphere. I can see gradual improvements since my mother moved in. Mum is happy, safe, and well cared for which are my main priorities.

The home is shabby and requires refurbishment. Areas often smell although the new managers have improved things somewhat. The gardens and car park areas need tidying up. The staff are pleasant and friendly and kind to the residents but seem to be short in numbers. Agency staff are not the answer. My
resident friend enjoys his cup of tea and piece of cake in the afternoon and says that the food is good. He is contented and well-liked by all the staff who always speak to him.

I have not been a regular visitor to the home. I do know that my cousin was well looked after and loved by the staff. I dealt more with the financial side and I always found the staff so helpful and kind with everything I needed to sort. He has now, sadly, died and at the funeral there were two lovely
representatives of Bilton Hall Nursing Home. It is a beautiful building in lovely countryside. I would recommend the home without hesitation.

I have visited Sowerby House a number of times over the years and I am now more confident in my loved ones being there. The new manager has made tremendous improvements which are evident throughout. The staff no longer look terrified of the management who are completely approachable and appear to address

My elderly mum was discharged from the hospital to Sowerby House on the 20th of December.
From the moment she arrived, she was treated with care and respect. Her physical needs were met, and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. I cannot thank the team at Sowerby House enough for everything they

The care my mother receives in Bilton Hall Nursing Home gives me complete peace of mind. She has really settled down and enjoys interacting with the staff.
I find the receptionists and staff welcoming and kind, nothing is too much trouble for any of them. Everyone always has a genuine smile on their
faces and are always willing to help if I have a certain request. The home has such a 'family' atmosphere. Well done everyone.

Bilton Hall Nursing Home

from Linda C (Friend of Resident) published on 4 October 2023
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5

My friend became a resident at Bilton Hall Nursing Home in April 2023. The staff were very enthusiastic for her to be there but on day one she was left alone and we had a telephone call from her because she didn’t know where to go and didn’t know where her room was.
On our first visit it was extremely
warm and when we mentioned this the housekeeper she told us ‘ They just sit around all day’.
Our friend sadly passed away in August and when we went to collect her belongings the lady on the desk never even said sorry.
All of her personal items went ‘missing’ including jewellery and items we had taken in to help her pass the time and feel at home. We were never advised not to take in personal items.
Her clothes had been packed into two bin bags and when we got them home we found they had included three pairs of heavily soiled knickers! This was very distressing. We sent a list of missing items to the care home manager and still haven’t had a reply. Not what you want at such a sad time.

Reply from Lynn Billingham, Business Development Manager at Bilton Hall Nursing Home

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review at this difficult time. We are sorry for your loss and to hear about the experience you have had and apologise for any undue stress caused. We know how difficult and disorientating it is when people move into a care home and would like to reassure you that all our new residents are welcomed into the home and introduced to the team as well as being introduced to other residents and encouraged to socialise with them to build friendships. We have an extensive programme of meaningful activities in the home for the health and mental well-being of residents, which everyone is encouraged to take part in. Our team is caring and compassionate at all times, treating residents with the dignity and respect they deserve, even when they pass away. The manager would have been happy to address your concerns at any time during your friend's stay at the home, but no concerns were raised, she would be happy to address your concerns in more detail.

The outside of the building looks very good with plenty of parking spaces. The inside of the home leaves a lot to be desired, could do with an update and some paint.
Rooms are very basic, the food seems to be well prepared and looked appetising.

Reply from Lynn Billingham, Business Development Manager at Bilton Hall Nursing Home

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review for Bilton Hall. We are really surprised about your comments as we have had an ongoing programme of decoration within the home and we have had positive comments from residents and relatives within the home. All our bedrooms are decorated as necessary when they become vacant. We have also made improvements in areas of the home not visible to visitors, including the kitchen which has helped us gain a 5 Star food hygiene rating. We are also surprised with your low score for our activities as we have a wide programme of activities and over the last few months this has included entertainers, alpacas visiting and a weekly cheese and wine afternoon. We would be happy to speak to you to understand your concerns.

My mother was very ill during the spring/summer of 2023. We were discussing end-of-life care. She needed regular attention help, support, care, feeding etc. All the staff from the most junior to manager cared for my mother with dignity, love and care. They couldn't do enough for her and I attribute
her getting through this to the care she received at Sowerby House.

Sowerby House care home is a special home. They have been looking after my mum for 4 years and their care for her is wonderful. Visiting her can be a bit daunting - you can never tell what Mum's mood is going to be. The staff always greet me with big smiles and time for a chat which puts me at ease.

Mum, as usual, was obviously happy and content, and her room was clean and tidy. All the carers we met during our visit spoke very fondly of Mum, and she told us several times how well looked after she is.
Living as far away as we do, we are unable to visit Mum as often as we would like, but knowing
how comfortable and well-cared for she is, makes it much easier for us between visits.

My mum moved into Sowerby House straight from hospital eighteen months ago, after many bad falls and what we now know was the start of Alzheimer's. This was a decision we were dreading as Mum always specified she never wanted/would go into a home. Thankfully, this decision was taken out of our hands
by a wonderful social worker assigned to Mum and there was a vacancy at Sowerby House.
Mum moved into a small 'temporary' room for a trial. Mum has never looked back. 'I love being in my little room'. What more can we, as a family, ask for? The care team at Sowerby House is second to none. It really is a team, from the manager to the gardener. Absolutely superb. As Mum's Alzheimer's has progressed, she still gets the best care and attention. My partner and I visit most days and have never witnessed anything other than the best care, not just to Mum, but to all residents. Everything about the care given at Sowerby House must be celebrated. Thank you everyone.
