I really enjoyed my 2 weeks at Hawkstone, a lovely easy going atmosphere, very needed, the staff are very kind and lovely as well as the others members of staff. The physiotherapist and use of the gym were used in my recovery from a knee replacement and I really benefited from the rest and care - not
to mention the cakes!

from V P (Daughter of Resident) published on 17 March 2025

My mother came to Cornford house for 2 weeks respite care following a small operation on her hand.
Unfortunately the surgery took place later in the day then expected, which made her admission to Cornford house later than expected. I kept the home updated during the day and when we eventually got Mum
there, they could not have been more welcoming.
She was very tired and a little emotional and they were so kind to her, offering her a warm drink and something to eat.
This level of care continued throughout her 2 week stay.
Everyone was friendly to us when we visited and nothing was too much trouble.
I would recommend Cornford house to anyone who needed care. Also, the food was excellent and nutritious.

I'm so impressed with everyone that works at Cornford House. They genuinely care and have been really supportive of my mum from the first day. You can tell that care and compassion is at the heart of everything they do. I'm reading things that my mum is doing (playing piano, joining in singing) that
I couldn't imagine her doing. Her diet has improved so much too. Gone are the ready meals replaced with Sunday roast and fish n chips. Cornford House was recommended to me and I'm so glad it was.

Reply from Tanya Markides, New Resident Manager at Cornford House

Thank you for this wonderful review. We always ask ourselves; 'If this were my parent, what would I want for them?' I am happy that this comes across in the care we give. I will pass on your lovely words to the wider team.

I cannot recommend Dover House highly enough. From the very first interaction, it was clear that this care home is a place where both residents and families are treated with the utmost care and respect. The staff are not only highly professional but also incredibly warm and compassionate, the environment
is clean, comfortable and well maintained. The dedication and compassion shown by all staff gave us peace of mind knowing our mother was in such good hands. Truly a wonderful place!

Rodwell House

from T F (Son of Resident) published on 8 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

When we first looked around Rodwell House it compared very favourably with others we'd seen. As a modern purpose-built home it simply doesn't compare with older buildings which have been adapted. The care suites are large and airy and the communal areas are spotless. We regularly see the entrance hall
carpet being cleaned (not just hoovered).
Mum is bedbound but the built-in hoist and nursing chairs mean she can be taken downstairs for a sociable lunch and to enjoy the entertainment. She adores the pet therapy sessions! We were encouraged to make Mum's room her own by taking in belongings to personalise it. The kitchenette in her room means we can make our own drinks and sit in her comfy chairs for a natter, we know other visitors have a meal with her in the lounge - the flexibility is great.
The staff are all extremely friendly to residents and visitors alike - and that includes housekeeping, laundry and catering staff too. There is definitely a can do culture.

Harmonia Village

Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

I consider myself lucky to have my Mum staying at the home under such wonderful caring staff. All patients here have extra needs and complexities, but I have been consistently impressed by the genuine caring nature and patience of the staff, I feel a sense of commitment and joy in what they are doing.
The home is well led and genuinely has an ethos of wanting to serve their residents well. I work as a GP locally, and have been to many residential and nursing homes across Kent. I can honestly say this is an excellent place. There is also lots of tech - cameras and sensors in the bed to also monitor your loved one. The entertainment programme is dynamic and varied, the staff (carers and nurses) really know the residents well. The care is the most important thing, but so is the beautiful setting as well. I love the European model of the dementia village where people have their own apartment in a real house, but the security and company of the hub - this place is truly legendary!

Hawkhurst House PAU

from S L (Daughter-in-law of Resident) published on 11 February 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 1.0 out of 5

When our mother first came to stay here it was on a hospital discharge pathway and our initial dealings with the management seemed positive. However as time went on (she was there for 8-9 weeks) the care delivered by the staff was very poor. We recognise that our Mom could at times be difficult, she
had quite a few healthcare needs and could at times be depressed. But I don't think this would be unusual when caring for elderly, dementia patients and that training would be in place so the staff would know how to deal with this. Instead the so-called carers told her she was known as Moaning **** and often ignored her buzzer, and were rude and unhelpful and made very little attempt to communicate with her. They put her in incontinence pants instead of assisting her to the toilet and on at least one occasion lowered her mattress all the way to the floor knowing this stopped her getting out of bed (she had some mobility with a walker but couldn't get up off the floor).

Reply from Gail Watkins, Registered Manager at Hawkhurst House PAU

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We are truly sorry that the care did not meet your expectations. The team at PAU are virtually the same team since we opened and have received extensive training. The call bell system is monitored and any call taking over 5 minutes which is rare is looked into. The bed was lowered to the floor for patient safety and is designed to do this and the incontinence pads were worn by patient choice, but the reviewer may not have known this. I have shared this feedback with the team including the Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist and they are truly upset as they felt they had a good rapport with the patient concerned. However, we do not always get things right and we have taken on board the reviewer's comments and will endeavour to improve our practice where needed. My door is always open and I would have valued the opportunity for the reviewer to have come to discuss any concerns she had at the time. Kind regards, Gail and Team

Prior to going to the care home he lived alone, in a cold home unable to look after himself. He is in the

I had a very comfortable and pleasant few weeks. My room was large and well equipped with sturdy furniture. The staff were marvelous and willingly gave as much attention as necessary. Visitors were welcome and could help themselves to refreshments, my husband even joined the exercise class! The big
central room had a dining area, plenty of comfortable chairs and a large television in the center. The games area was the other end with a long table for games and a jigsaw table. All meals could be taken in your room and there were quite a lot of residents who never appeared.
The gym was well equipped. All in all, I enjoyed my stay. Thank you to everybody.

Hazeldene House

from S A (Partner of Resident) published on 10 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My partner went to Hazeldene House from hospital. He was frail, unsteady and refused all assistance. The staff were patient and kind, the change in his health and frailness was wonderful. Each day his hearing aids are checked to make sure he can hear and his speech is better. He started to use the dining
room and interact with the staff, having jokes with them and chatting. They welcomed his beloved dog and with regular meals, regular medication etc. The improvement in his mental well being was enormous. He has good capacity and tells me how kind they all are. It's important to me that someone who is aware of his surroundings and what is going on is giving me such positive information. He sees a Doctor regularly. Staff are always available for information and help. It is very well staffed.
The Manager and Administrator are always available. Going into care is traumatic for both user and family and I thank Hazeldene House for making it as good a transition as is possible.
