Normanton Lodge

This is such a lovely home, the staff and managers are amazing, its clean, and bright and good food which my Mum commented on to me, plus drinks always available. Residents are treated with dignity and care, nice social spaces and a garden area. Managers are super organised and kept me so well informed
all the time. All staff were always happy and helpful, kind and well trained. Sadly, my mum's time here was cut short as her needs escalated suddenly, but I would 100% recommend Normanton.

Fantastic care home Mum has been there 6 months and such a wonderful improvement in her overall health. Yesterday 29th July an amazing garden party for residents and friends/relatives. It was an astounding success with a singer who managed to bring a smile to every resident's face. Tears came to many
eyes when a resident (who rarely shows emotion) was with help dancing and smiling. It was lovely. My mum although suffering from dementia remembered every word of Lambeth Walk and joined in. I will never forget the experience this home provided for all the people in their care. They always find time and empathy when I have a question about my mum's health and financial affairs. cannot praise them highly enough.

Thank you so much, we love all our residents and our aim is to be open and honest with everyone involved. Your mum is a very special lady.

Hooklands Care Home

from David K (Friend of Resident) published on 15 February 2022

My Father has just passed away, after 18 months as a Resident of Hooklands Care Home.
It was a difficult adjustment for him, having been struggling with dementia and having endured hospitalisation for delirium episodes.
I cannot praise the staff enough for their patience and compassion shown to my
Father and other residents. It is a difficult and emotionally taxing job, compounded by the Covid measures we had to endure and the isolation the elderly were subjected to.
The property was always clean, and staff were constantly vigilant as to the needs of the residents. The position on the seafront makes it quite special. I have fond memories of sitting on a bench looking over the Solent towards the Isle of Wight.
Thank you to all the dedicated staff for your kindness

My mother has been a resident for over 2 years. The care she has received is second to none and I am completely satisfied with all aspects. She is very happy and tells me how lovely all the staff are. The home is very clean and the staff are very helpful and good at communicating with the family.

My Mum and my stepdad have been at Hooklands for nearly two years and both have a form of dementia. Both are very happy there and it is a great comfort to me and my brother and the rest of their family and friends how well they are looked after. Hooklands is a very happy place and the staff there are
always cheerful and welcoming.
Nothing has been too much trouble especially dealing with the pandemic they have been reassuring all through. The environment is lovely being on the beach and the views are amazing even on the dullest days. I couldn’t wish for a better place for Mum to be.

Chalcraft Hall

From the day she arrived my aunt was made to feel welcome. She was well looked after always looked clean and tidy and was very comfortable. There were plenty of activities going on to which she was encouraged to get involved and join in.
Sadly after a few weeks she became unwell and after a stay in
hospital returned to Chalcraft Hall where she was looked after until she died.
I cannot praise the staff highly enough for the care she was given as she approached the end of her life. Nothing was too much trouble whatever the time of day or night.

Mum has stayed at Chalcraft Hall a number of times as a respite resident. It is such a comfort to know Mum is safe and well cared for while Dad recharges his batteries.

The staff at Chalcraft Hall genuinely cared for their clients both residents and the families of.
Our mother spent her last few months at Chalcraft Hall and was treated with respect and compassion. The staff went out of their way to adapt to our mum’s needs and wants to personalise the care they gave
her.

Firstly, how the home took Mum in where others had written her off due to her advanced dementia. Alas, Mother did not live long enough to enjoy fully the home's facilities. The staff were excellent and did all they could and more for her.

This home is dirty, the staff don't care about the resident. The residents seem not to have choice, dignity or are shown any respect.

I reached crisis point with my husband and they responded magnificently. They took him straight away and made him feel very welcome - settled him down and the attention they gave him (a demanding patient) was wonderful. It was very reassuring to know that he was being so well looked after. I can never
thank the staff enough for the way they looked after him.

As a family we were so lucky to have found this care home for my father. The staff are a wonderfully caring bunch of people run by an excellent manager. The warm and friendly care my father, who has dementia, received couldn't have been better. I would highly recommend Chalcraft Hall.

I am very satisfied with the care mum receives. The introduction of the Activities Co-ordinator is making a huge difference to the residents - well done. Improvements to furnishings/furniture have recently been made and are ongoing to ensure better standards of comfort for the residents.

As soon as we walked through the doors, we knew we had found the right care home for my 95-year-old mum. The cleanliness, activities, safety, care, dignity and staff were second to none. It felt like one big family home.

My late cousin's wife could not be in a better home. She has been there since October 2010. There have been changes in ownership and staff but fortunately, has not interrupted the care given. They understand her sad illness which is so common these days. It was fortunate that social services placed
her in this home which specialises in dementia. We had to purchase a special bed on her behalf in May 2014, therefore making it easier for the staff to move her in and out of bed. They also have a hoist to move her into a wheelchair when needed. Obviously, this is costing her a lot of money, but she is not aware of this.

Clothes seem to be a problem, especially underclothes that we keep on having to replace. Also sometimes she seems to be wearing things that do not belong to her. We feel perhaps her possessions are with another resident, including furniture, so a closer control of each resident's possessions might prove
helpful.
