Baltimore House

My mum has been a resident at the home for over 2 years. She was admitted as a result of her advanced Alzheimer's and my sister and I were so worried about her moving into a home. However, the staff were so welcoming and understanding and we couldn't be happier with the level of care and attention
that mum receives. The staff at Baltimore made a very stressful situation much easier to deal with and mum now views Baltimore as her home and place of happiness.
The staff always keep us informed of any issues immediately and we are encouraged to call in or telephone anytime that we feel we need reassurance or just an update.
There are always plenty of activities throughout the week and mum is encouraged to join in. She especially benefits from the musical activities as she loves singing and dancing. The staff are always kind, caring and compassionate.
I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Baltimore House.

My husband has been at Bellavista Nursing Home Barry for nine months. My husband's bedroom has been decorated with painting and curtains to what he wanted. Staff are very friendly with my husband, activity girls go above and beyond to help my husband join in. Food is very good and presented with thought
and care, as he always has eaten by the way food is put on his plate.
I can't thank staff enough as most go above and beyond.

I have always been satisfied with the standards maintained at Bellavista Nursing Home Barry in relation to my mother. If I have had any concerns, these have been dealt with professionally and courteously. Although my mother is bedridden, I know from my frequent visits that every effort is made to keep
my mother engaged in activities, both in the home and also outside trips where appropriate. Her condition is stable which I think is attributable to the level of care she receives.

Overall, a very good home, good staff, very helpful. Good standard of cleaning. Rooms are very tired, need to be refurbished, furniture is very shabby and quite dirty chairs but that's down to the management not the staff. Pillows and bedding need replacing and lots of his underwear and some clothes
have disappeared. They should all be labelled.

One of the hardest things in life was having to place Nan into a nursing home but seeing how fast she settled in was a great relief. Nan was loved by all staff who worked in the Waverley from carers, nurses cleaners, kitchen staff activities, maintenance and office staff she truly was in the best place.
Even in the last stages of her life, all of the staff couldn't do enough for her and my family and we cannot thank you enough, you truly are the best.

On the whole we are very pleased with my husband's care. The care staff and care assistants are sensitive to his needs. The nurses always call the GP when needed. He is as comfortable as he can be here given his disabilities. One suggestion for in service training is to educate care assistants on the
difference between dementia and severe stroke. My husband has a good measure of cognition though severely disabled in his 70s and has had a lot to come to terms with because his life was normal the day before it happened. The emotional trauma is difficult as is the paralysis.

My husband has Alzheimer's and Dementia, he is difficult, unpredictable and challenging. I was recommended The Waverley. I removed him from another home to be in The Waverley. The difference in care The Waverley is simply in a different class. My husband is always clean, the staff are plentiful, always
watching the residents and at the first sign of distress or challenging behaviour, they are on hand. They intervene early, reassure him, distract him. He is settled and does not have unexplained bruising. Their wonderful entertainment staff keep residents active. I cannot praise them highly enough. Staff are plentiful, caring, friendly, professional, always on hand and I am always told about any issues (this was not the case in other homes). I feel I am listened to and supported, often in distressing situations. Other care homes may have fancy coffee cafes or pretty gardens but residents are never in them, here it is residents first, they have a nice coffee shop and nice gardens as well.

Dad was transferred to the Waverley Care Centre, the end of July 2023. After spending 10 weeks in hospital after a bad fall. Dad has two forms of dementia.
The hardest thing I have ever done was admitting I could no longer provide the care he required and trusting strangers to look after him.
The
first weeks were so difficult for me as he took a while to settle/adjust. Moving forward to May 2024. Yes, Dad has deteriorated as we all know dementia is cruel. My dad is at the content stage of this dreadful disease.
Thank you, falls short. The manager and her team (too many to name) have made the last few months and I hope many more. A total pleasure for Dad, nothing has ever been too much. Transparency all the way, always kept up to date 24/7.
Collette be proud of your team; you all do an amazing job in exceedingly demanding situations. I will say thank you even though it does not fully represent my gratitude.

The Waverely Care Home already came highly recommended before we chose the home for my wife's mother. My mother-in-law had been a patient within the healthcare system during Covid- 19 pandemic.
Her physical condition had deteriorated together with her mental health; which is a very complicated Alzheimer's
presentation.
All the staff have been exceptional, the care has been second to none. The terrible bed sores that were present in hospital were treated and have disappeared. The psychiatric care is very thorough, the staff have a very detailed knowledge of conditions beyond which I have experienced in the NHS, surprisingly. We have regular updates and if we wish to talk to someone about 'anything' we can.
The activities for the patient are really good, they engage everyone, inclusivity is amazing.
The daycare staff who look after and care for my mother-in-law, are so caring and loving, they really do care for every individual patient. They all are so compassionate and empathetic.

Awful experience with my relative. His room was absolutely filthy constantly. At various times it was infested with ladybugs. Instead of getting someone in to sort it out properly their answer to this was to board up the windows with plastic screens therefore allowing no air into the room and making
it sweltering hot in the summer. We could always see dead bugs then between the window and the plastic which were never cleaned and removed. Dust and dirt everywhere. Tablets on the floor that they had dropped and not realised. So whether they had even given the right dosage to my relative we’ll never know. We were asked to take in yoghurts and a mini fridge. These were rarely given to my relative and left to go off in his room. The food was absolutely vile. Constant scooped lumps of mash and god knows what else. When the windows were in use they were smashed and had a block of wood holding one slightly open! I could go on and on. We have moved our relative to somewhere much better! Avoid!

Reply from Helen Randall, Manager at College Fields Nursing Home

Hi Casey,
We take all feedback seriously. We aim to provide the best possible care. It is disappointing that when we spoke last you informed me that you had no concerns about anything, including care provision. You stated that you wanted your friend moved so he was living nearer to his disabled wife so she could visit him more frequently. You informed me that you were not his niece, but a friend of the family but you are now referring to him as a relative. I apologise if I misunderstood the relationship. When there were issues with lady bugs we called out our pest control contractor. The plastic screens were secondary glazing, as the home is a listed building we cannot have double glazing so these screens keep the rooms warm in winter. Your friend never complained of being too warm, if he had we could have removed them. If you had provided me with details at the time of your other concerns, I could have investigated them thoroughly for you. I am pleased you are happy with the new home.

Mum was moved to the Waverley Care Centre on 17th March 2020 from the hospital as she had several bad falls in a matter of weeks. I had already been in discussion with Social Services about moving her to Scotland to be near myself and my family. I had been looking at care homes in Scotland for mum when
Covid happened and she had to be moved from the hospital straight away. I then did not see my mother for about 8 months and only spoke to her on social media (which was a blessing) but it was obvious from the start that my mother was in a good place and was being well looked after. She was happy and always told me how lovely the staff were and how well she was being looked after. I was always kept informed about everything to do with her care and despite having Alzheimer's disease and other health problems which would have caused her pain seemed to thrive there. No words could ever express how thankful and grateful I am for the wonderful staff who work there.

Reply from Collette Woolford, Dementia Manager at The Waverley Care Centre

It was a difficult time for everyone. Covid did take its toll on many people in different ways. The Home Manager, myself and the whole team on the unit thank you for your kind words, balanced view and support shown to us also.
