The Borrins Care Home

from Clive H (Son of Resident) published on 19 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Mum moved in to the Borrins Care home in Oct 2023. She quickly settled in and I can say she saw The Borrins as 'home'. Mum wasn't cared for by staff, she was cared for by 'friends'. Whilst we are a close family, these friends became an extension of her daily social life, with wonderful interaction and
humour. The Borrins may not be a modern care home but the exceptional and attentive time given to mum was invaluable. What use are the newest and latest facilities, if it doesn't have compassion.

In her last couple of months in poor health, the care went up another level providing end of life care. And she left that home as impeccably dressed and made up, as the first day she walked in.

The outstanding care and approach starts with the care home manager and transcends down the line. There are just too many carers to mention special thanks to.

We got from the Borrins everything we hoped for and more. Thank you so much for caring for our mum and the friendship you provided her.

Reply from Sally Stones, Estates Manager at The Borrins Care Home

The Borrins Care Home

My mum was in Borrins Care Home from March 2024. I instantly liked the home and I was made to feel very welcome. Mum's care was very professional and showed genuine love and care for her well-being and indeed my own.
Unfortunately, my mum ended up in an end-of-life care situation with the support
of the district nurse. This is when I saw even more of the workings of the home and the amazing staff. They cared for both my mum and myself at this time. In my mum's last days, I chose to stay by my mum's side. I'll never be able to thank the staff enough for what they helped me through. These people are just incredible and deserve far more than I'm sure their salaries reward them. They show a genuine love for others. Far more than 'just a job' I'll never forget the staff who cared for my mum and me at this time. I'm unable to put into words enough praise for the team at Borrins but they know what I'm trying to say. Thank you for everything. You're amazing people with hearts of gold. Bless you.

Reply from Sally Stones, Estates Manager at The Borrins Care Home

We are glad to have been able to help and comfort you and your Mother and are very grateful for your lovely words which we will pass onto the Manager and her staff team.

The Borrins Care Home

from Jane L (Daughter of Resident) published on 11 April 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Mum went into The Borrins during Covid following a broken hip. She settled in well and loved all the staff, the food, the company, and the activities. She had a new lease of life. During Covid the staff coped extremely well in very difficult circumstances. Mum enjoyed her time there and had a lovely
room overlooking the gardens where she could watch the squirrels and birds. When Mum suffered a series of strokes The Borrins staff gave her the most amazing care, love, and support including helping myself and my family cope. Mum decided she wanted to remain at The Borrins at the end of her life and she passed away peacefully in Feb 2024, she was surrounded by people who knew her so well. She received the most wonderful care, support, love, and attention during her final days. I cannot thank all the staff and management enough for the care she received throughout her time there. It does feel like a special place and one Mum called home.

Ashgrove House

from M W (Daughter of Resident) published on 7 June 2023
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My mum went to live at Ashgrove nearly a year ago, after quite traumatic circumstances. All the staff, especially two of them were just wonderful. They gave us limitless kindness, understanding and support and that continues every day whenever we need it.
Because of the staff, Ashgrove House, in my
opinion, stands head and shoulders above other care homes. It really does feel like a home from home. It has such a warm and friendly atmosphere, there is always laughter and chatter and it seems like one big happy family. My mum has flourished since she moved there and I feel confident that she has the best quality of life possible.
It's also reassuring to know that the staff have so much experience, knowledge and endless patience. It is very apparent how much the staff care about each of the residents and they go above and beyond to make their lives as happy and comfortable as possible. The manager is an inspiration. I can only imagine how challenging her role must be.

Burley Hall Care Home

from Robbin D (Brother of Resident) published on 18 April 2023
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

I am living in Switzerland and had made occasional visits to see my sister and her husband.
There were already clear signs that my sister required more attention and care than he could cope with. After the passing of the latter, it became even more urgent that she be in an institution with not only
professional care, but an environment to which she could still relate.
Burley Hall Care Home was the perfect solution. The attention they give to all of their residents is a real tribute to their professionalism, but perhaps more importantly, genuine respect and care for each and every individual.
My visit to Burley Hall last week only reinforced my admiration for the ongoing staff, who genuinely lighten the atmosphere for all of their residents, whilst remaining professional and understanding. Thank you and with great respect to your dedication.

Throughout mum's stay at Burley Hall, she was treated with kindness and dignity. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and any issues were dealt with promptly. Mum came to see Burley Hall as her home and was very happy and content. Mum built up a good relationship with many of the staff who got
to know her well. Her end-of-life care was amazing - from management, carers, kitchen staff etc. Their kindness extended to all of the family. I cannot thank them enough. They made mum's last moments peaceful and comfortable.

from Janice G (Daughter of Resident) published on 16 December 2022

Our dad was here for just under 2 years. He received the best and most personal care unfortunately that we couldn't give. The staff always knew who we were and talked to us lots and had good communication when doctors came. When dad passed they were compassionate and asked how we were, whereas they
looked after him 24 hours a day and could see they were upset but professional at all times. As a family, we wouldn't have wanted dad anywhere else and we are grateful for the care of all the carers and everyone who worked there. What an amazing job they did looking after him. We are very grateful and a massive thank you to everyone. Love from all.

Straven House Care Home

from Tina H (Daughter of Resident) published on 31 October 2022
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

Mum has been in Straven House for two years now, recently becoming frailer and requiring palliative care. The staff are all very attentive, often popping in just to chat with her. The senior staff are very proactive and ensure families are kept fully informed and involved, even through the Covid epidemic,
they made every effort to facilitate visits wherever possible and excellent communication methods when it wasn't. It is a small home, which enables a cosy family feel whenever I visit. I am very happy with the care Mum receives.

My uncle has received wonderful care at Burley, on the Greenholme wing. The staff are always kind and compassionate. My uncle was always beautifully clean and shaved and looked well cared for. He always looked the same even when we were not expected. The staff attended to his every need with grace and
I would not hesitate to recommend Burley Hall. His final year at Burley was as happy as it could be for someone with advanced dementia. Thank you all.

My mother is currently a resident at Burley Hall. A variety of social activities are available for residents which will stimulate and help their general well-being. Many of these activities are within the home which residents are encouraged to participate in. The activities often have a theme and give
the opportunity to reminisce. Planned trips outside the home are also available and residents are invited to take part if they wish or are able.

Mum is a lot happier since she moved to Burley Hall. She's more active than she has been recently and is more involved with other people, making friends and taking an interest. She is well cared for and has a lovely room. I feel confident that this is the right place for her. It's a big weight off
our shoulders. The staff are welcoming, kind and professional.

Burley Hall Care Home

from Jayne K (Daughter of Resident) published on 20 December 2021

Dad was transferred from the hospital in November 2020. He had vascular dementia, Parkinson's and diabetes. All the staff are professional, dedicated, loving, caring, and compassionate. Each and every member of staff has made a difference to the quality of my dad's life. They have given him love and
comfort when he has been at his most vulnerable, and unable to care for himself, always treating him with dignity, sprinkled with a sense of humour which dad appreciated. He was stimulated with the activities, and general hustle and bustle going on around him. Burley Hall was a light at the end of a very dark tunnel for my dad and for us his family. When covid lockdown kept us at the window for five months, the staff became dad's family. I was kept updated on dad's progress and changes to medication. In September, dad passed away peacefully in his comfy chair, surrounded by the other residents and the staff who loved and cared for him. You will all hold a special place in my heart.

from A L W (Daughter of Resident) published on 16 September 2021

Mum has been in Burley Hall for 6 months and is very happy. Having been in another ‘luxury’ home for 18 months it was a difficult decision to have to move her and as it was also during a lockdown it was a very traumatic time for me and her.
Firstly the admin staff and the manager really supported
me through the difficult move and mum quickly settled in.
Mum loves the food which is prepared on-site, the care is good and mum also enjoys the activities which are offered and the special events which are organised.
At the previous home mum never went outside but at Burley Hall, the residents are encouraged to use the garden in the nice weather and my mum has found a new interest for life at Burley Hall.
I found out from our previous care home experience that the luxury of decor and large rooms are not what you need in a home, it’s the care, general well-being and individual surroundings that are important and I recommend Burley Hall on these grounds.

My sister was admitted to The Borrins in March 2020, just before the start of the Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns and restrictions on visiting residents of care homes. As a result, this review is based on what has been a uniquely difficult 18 months for Care Home residents, staff and relatives of residents.
All have coped remarkably well and staff particularly deserve our fullest praise. My sister was admitted to The Borrins having had several falls over Christmas 2019, for which she was hospitalised in Bradford Royal Infirmary for 3 weeks. Despite a period in a Social Rehabilitation Unit afterwards, she was not deemed well enough to return to her sheltered housing flat in Shipley, where she lived alone.

Lovely setting, peaceful, well-appointed. Very caring and friendly staff in all areas. Reception staff are very helpful, which reflects excellent management all round.
Only a small observation and not a bit problem was the delay in returning communication but I guess Covid got in the way! otherwise,
I would highly recommend.
