My father spent 4 weeks in the home for respite care. I was away during this time but other family members expressed how well he settled with his partner and delighted with the care he received over this period.

My mother has been a resident at this care home for 2 years now. On all my visits - regularly daily mostly - there is always a smile awaiting as you enter the home. The care is exceptional and the facilities are second to none. I have recommended this to friends and acquaintances and have helped a couple
who decided to opt for Thorn Springs, given my experience at the home, who decided on the home for their loved ones.

We looked at a number of Residential homes for mum and were so pleased that we chose Blakelands. Staff amazing, helpful and caring. Facilities second to none. Mum was difficult when we first had to take her but the staff helped to settle her in and she had a wonderful time. She enjoyed the quiz and
going out to the pub, as well as the animals and reptiles that were brought in. She enjoyed wine with her Dinner and made new friends. Cannot praise Blakelands high enough. Ultimate reference is that I have told my kids that when I need to go into a Residential Care Home I want to go here.

Launton Grange

from Emma F (Daughter of Resident) published on 4 March 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5

My mum was a resident at Launton Grange for 2 and a half years. During this time, she received some wonderful care but also care below standard with a high turnover of care staff and management. The facilities are good but some, such as the gardens, are poorly maintained. Activities varied. They have
a fantastic programme of musicians who come in, but otherwise, it was a bit hit or miss, again suffering from staff turnover. What really lets Launton Grange down, however, is its communication. Despite only being able to cope with low-dependency care needs, we were not kept informed of my mum's changing care needs and the need to seek greater nursing care elsewhere, even though the decline in her health was steady over a long period. Instead, she was left to languish in the hospital for weeks before being informed she could not return and we would have to find an alternative home at the 11th hour. Luckily for us, it led us to a truly wonderful care home, but the situation was needlessly upsetting and distressing.

Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Launton Grange

Thank you for your review, we value all feedback as this helps us to improve our service where required. We are sorry your experience was not always as expected. Since, this time, the team has worked hard to make improvements around communication to ensure our families are kept up to date. Additionally, we have also introduced new activities to our programme and for our residents' enjoyment, the home has carried out extra work on the gardens. The home's manager operates on an open-door policy and would be happy to meet to discuss the improvements made.

Mum put on weight and started using her walker during her 'holiday' (respite care) at Blakelands Lodge. Blakelands was more like a luxury hotel rather than a care home and my siblings and I would have been delighted if she had wanted to stay permanently. The staff were caring and wonderful with her;
hoping she will be back!

My mother came to Launton Grange for respite care and due to her declining health, my family and I decided she should stay.
The staff are very caring and my mother has been treated well and has adapted well to her new surroundings.
She celebrated her 99th birthday last November and Launton Grange
made the day very special for her, including a beautiful cake.
Many thanks to all the staff for their ongoing hard work.

Since my mother has been a resident of Launton Grange, she has been very well looked after. Dementia has regretfully made it necessary for her to have full-time support and despite her extreme reluctance to be in residential care which she has made obvious. The staff have been exceptionally kind and
patient to both my mother and myself.
I would definitely recommend Launton Grange to any future resident.

The home continue to provide top quality care for my father. Throughout his stay he has had superb support from the staff who really seem to want to go above and beyond to make their residents and the families visiting feel it's their home. The focus on care and quick resolution of any issues is first
class. They also seem to be able to give everyone some attention no matter how awkward some characters of this age / mental capacity can be! I for one have been so impressed and so grateful that we chose this lovely home for my father's final hurrah! My heartfelt thanks for all the support over a difficult period of emotional roller coasters for all involved.

My mother-in-law has been at Launton for over two years and is very happy there.
The management and care team have built a fantastic relationship with her and she feels very happy and well looked after. We travel for long periods and can happily leave her in the team's care safe in the knowledge that
she is well looked after whilst we are away.
The chef and her kitchen team are creating excellent food and my mother-in-law enjoys both her lunchtimes in the dining room and meals in her room when she's feeling less social.
We are very happy we chose Launton Grange to provide a safe and happy environment for my mother-in-law's long term care.

My mum moved into Thorn Springs in September after being given a diagnosis of Altziemers and I am so pleased we found this home for her. The staff and carers really go above and beyond and nothing is too much for them. The home is very modern, clean, and has so many activities laid on for the residents
and the food provided is plentiful and tasty. There is always plenty to occupy my mum within the home if needed and if she just wants to chill in her room that's ok too. I highly recommend Thorn Springs and can see a noticeable change in my mum's mood and well-being since she has moved into Thorn Springs.

I live abroad so I cannot visit very often and it is important that I can be confident of the care given to my mother at Thorn Springs. They have not let us down.
Whenever I visit I am impressed by the happy atmosphere and the friendliness and efficiency of the staff. The day rooms are attractive and
there is always something planned to stimulate the residents. It is a shame that there is not more outdoor space but they often venture out to the local café and beyond.
The rooms are clean, attractive and well-equipped but a little small.
Mother can be difficult sometimes, but the staff take it in their stride with great patience. There is good medical follow-up with a GP visiting regularly and they can arrange for eye and hearing tests.
The staff communicate well with relatives and are always ready to listen and answer questions.
The food is good and plentiful, with a choice of dishes. Hot drinks and cake are always available for all, not to mention the delicious milkshakes.

Handley House

from J H (Son of Resident) published on 18 October 2024
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

Very pleased that staff at Handley House know our parent, and their needs. The staff are attentive and react well to feedback or suggestions, based on my experience of our parent. Whilst there is currently a transfer between roles due to staff changes, activities are arranged every day morning and afternoon.
Perhaps greater encouragement could be given to service users to take part, and a little more variety in activities too. Generally though the activities meet the needs of the service users, and our parent enjoys the trips out that are arranged. Whilst some of the service users have challenging needs to manage, overall, staff ensure that all service users are respected and included, regardless of their situation. It would be great if the garden area, and especially the area around the main reception, were given a little 'love' - plants are there but not maintained.

Reply from Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at Handley House

Thank you for your lovely feedback and positive experience regarding Handley House. Regarding activities this is something we are always striving to improve on, activities are reviewed regularly in the home and resident and relative feedback and input is always listened to. With regards to the garden please be assured this is in hand, and arrangements are being made so this can be addressed. As you know we take a lot of pride in our gardens, and we are proud of how lovely they are, and all the work we did with residents, relatives, and the local community to make them a beautiful area within the grounds of the home.

My father moved into Handley House in August 2023. I was told my father would be on a floor where people were getting forgetful! My father did not have dementia.
To start with he had friends but over the last six months, this floor was filled with more and more dementia patients and a lady shouting,
'HELP ME!', night and day.
I cannot fault your staff or management (at the home) but for £1558 per week, my father was left in misery. I have moved him to a better care home.

Reply from Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at Handley House

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are genuinely sorry to hear that your Father's experience did not meet your expectations. While we are pleased that you found our staff, management and facilities to be of a high standard, we sincerely regret that the environment on the floor was not suitable for your Father. We strive to ensure that every resident feels comfortable and supported, and we are sorry to hear that this was not the case. We take all feedback seriously and will review our placement and floor arrangements to ensure that resident's individual needs are better met in the future. Should you wish to discuss this further or provide additional details please can you contact us directly. We value your input and would like to address any concerns fully.
