Understaffed & underfunded! Night staff either unable or unwilling to help patients to the commode, patients are told to use incontinence pants - NO DIGNITY! Had to ask for my mums hair to be washed. Was told it was done weekly, but it was over 10 days since she had been admitted!
Little interaction
or encouragement to get mobile again whilst recovering from a broken ankle. When she pressed her call button to use the toilet, no urgency & she was constantly told about all the other patients waiting for attention.
Initially my mum was put into a room with a faulty bed, it didn't raise and for 2 nights 'slept' on a disconnected air mattress!
I asked if there were any other rooms available and was told there wasn't. I asked again for my mum to be transferred to another room, finally she was. I asked how long this room had been available & it had been free for about a week!! Staffing issues need to be resolved, it's not acceptable that people have to live in these conditions.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are very sorry to hear about your experience and your concerns regarding the care your mother received during her stay with us. Please know that we take all feedback seriously, as it helps us to reflect on and improve the quality of our care and services. We are genuinely disappointed to hear about the issues you've described, particularly around dignity, communication, and the availability of support. These are not the standards we aim to uphold, and we are committed to addressing any shortcomings. Unfortunately, these concerns were not brought to the attention of management at the time of admission or during your mother's stay, which meant we were unable to intervene or resolve them in real time. Had we been made aware, we would have acted swiftly to investigate and support both your mother and your family.

Mum was transferred from hospital to Croft House at Bedford care home. This was our first experience and we were apprehensive about what to expect. From my first phone call to the home, throughout all our visits to the last call the staff were amazing. To provide end of life care is a huge thing to
ask but the staff were caring to Mum and a great support to us. Although some of the fittings and decor looked tired the place was spotless and cleaned to a high standard. Thank you for all you did

On arrival to visit my nana, there was other family members waiting to access the building to see their loved ones for over 20 minutes, there was at least 6 residence in the corridor on their own banging on the door and shouting because they can see their family trying to visit them and residance was
arguing amongst them selves... there was not a member of staff in sight checking to see what the loud commotion was. Once we gained entry a rude member of staff ignored family members concerns and she pushed past visitors causing injury to a young girl and then got confrontational saying it was accident and refused to apologies and walked off. There is a few lovely members of staff there that we are grateful for their hard work.

We cannot fault the care shown by the staff at Burrswood. My husband was in Kay Unit and was suffering from mixed dementia. The staff were lovely and caring. There was a friendly atmosphere on the unit and the staff couldn't be more helpful.
My husband enjoyed the food very much and care was always
taken to make sure the residents had plenty of drinks.
The rooms and common areas were cleaned regularly. His clothes were always washed, ironed and returned quickly.
We could visit whenever we wished and offered tea or coffee or we could use the kitchen.
During his final days the nursing care was excellent and the staff couldn't do enough for him and for us.
It was so nice that members of staff attended his funeral.
I would recommend Burswood to anyone needing residential for care for a loved one.

Its a pleasure to give a review for Gorton Parks Care Home. Mum has been at the home since February 2024. We are so very grateful to all the staff for the wonderful care, compassion and dignity they give to Mum. Inspite of her dementia she has flourished at the home, we can see she is happy, settled
and has made friendships with other residents and the carers. As a Health Professional myself I would highly reccommend Gorton Parks Care Home, they have supported us all as a family and we would not want Mum to be anywhere else. A huge ' Thank-You' to each and everyone one of you, you are all amazing!

We are pleased with my mum's care. The carers are friendly and always show care and concern towards our mum on times when we've visited. I've had to mention a few things when concerned e.g occasions when she's been thirsty, cold (needed a blanket, or didn't have socks on). Also, the crash mat had been
taken from against the wall next to her bed to stop her hitting her head on the wall. Fortunately, I was visiting to see this.

The staff at beech house were truly amazing with my dad in the two weeks he was there
Whilst his needs were assessed.
As a family we felt like they kept us fully informed at all times and if we had any concerns they were more than happy to help. All the staff were extremely friendly and always made
Sure
my dad was clean and comfortable even the times he was being difficult. I can honestly say the staff work so hard and they engage with all the residents even when they are really busy they treated my dad with dignity and respect at all times that goes for all the staff from nurses to the cleaners. We felt reassured that my dad was receiving the correct care whilst he was at beech house. We cannot thank the staff enough for making my dads time at beech house a positive experience and it was the only the distance for us that we knew we would have to move him to somewhere closer to home.

My Father was placed in Bedford Care Home after 2 strokes, Wigan hospital said he was moving to a home, it was a worry for my sisters and I, to be fair we had not heard of Bedford Care Home, however, there was no need to worry as all the staff where fantastic, my Father had his own room, but spent most
of his time in the communal lounge, where the was always staff around to cater for all his needs, the staff also created interesting things for them all to do, my Father actually enjoyed the care, and they helped him with his recovery, as he began to feel better, and eventually we took him home.
I have to say, "The staff helped him in his recovery and my thanks go out to them".

Gorton Parks has not only cared for my ailing dad but every carer we have encountered has cared for me and my family as well. This isn't just a professional establishment, it is personal as the staff care personally for the residents in their care.

Before my Mum was moved to Bedford, she stayed inside all day, she didn't eat well, didn't sleep well, was reluctant to mix with other people and was becoming more and more agoraphobic and morbid. Since she moved to Bedford in January, she has really started to enjoy life a lot more. She has been out
to dancing and singing events, Bolton aquarium and museum, attended parties and made new friends and is even going ten pin bowling next week! I am so thrilled with the love and care provided by the whole team at Bedford, especially the way the activities team are able to get my Mum involved. It must have taken an enormous effort to get my Mum to believe she can be happy again and I can really see that she enjoys every interaction with the carers, nurses and staffing team. She now eats like a horse, sleeps in a proper bed and she even thanked me on my last visit for "giving her, her life back!". Thank you to the Bedford team for caring and helping my Mum to 'be happy' again!

Wouldn't put my worst enemy in this care home, the lack of care and acknowledgement the staff give their patients is evil. My nan sat from 6am to 4:30 pm in her own filth and was only changed as I requested it. This was done on multiple occasions. 40 beds and 5 staff at best. Ridiculous. Luckily we
moved my nan to a different care facility after 2 weeks. I would give this place 0 stars if I could.

Reply from Paul Lawson, National Sales Manager at Bedford Care Home

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are deeply sorry to hear about your experience and understand how distressing it must have been for you and your family. At the time of your nan's stay, our staffing levels were 6 staff to 30 residents (4 care staff, a nurse, and a nurse assistant) This ratio meets the needs and levels of dependency in the house and previous reviews are testament to the high standards we set. We apologise that we did not meet these expectations for you and your nan. We wish this issue had been brought to our attention sooner so we could have worked together to resolve any concerns. We are committed to continually improving our care practices, and we take your feedback seriously as part of that process. If you would like to discuss this matter further, we would welcome the opportunity to speak with you. We truly value the trust families place in us, and are dedicated to providing the best care for all residents. Best wishes.

I would like to say that the staff, from the people behind the scenes, to the staff on the units, are amazing. The care and love they give, without it being false, is truly humbling. Both our parents are there and I can say hand on heart it was the best thing we could have done for Mum and Dad. There
is joy and laughter, the rooms are clean and if mum is having one of her off days, shall we say, they go above and beyond, even making her jam butties, as she loves them. Never have I left there thinking I'd chosen the wrong home. I know I couldn't have done any more. All the staff are brilliant.
I don't know the management hence 4 stars, but everyone else is 5.

My mum went into care in October 2024 due to her Lewy bodies. She was initially assessed in a unit and then was moved to Astley House. Since being there, my sister and I are much happier. She is more settled and content. My dad came into Astley House in December 2024. We tried to keep him home but he
wanted to be with mum. He is well cared for. The carers are kind and look after all residents with a passion for ensuring they are engaged in activities and happy.

My mum moved to Bedford Care Home in December following twelve months in another care home. We chose Bedford due to my mum's rapid declining health with dementia and Alzheimer's. The care home she originally went in did not meet her care needs, since moving to Bedford last month, I have noticed a massive
change in her everyday life.
She has now settled in relatively well, has a lovely room which we have been able to make a "home". The staff from senior management, carers, domestics and activity workers are brilliant.
They are very knowledgeable when dealing with advanced dementia and very caring.
This for us, as a family, has been the best and right decision for my lovely mum.
I used to dread visiting her in her other care home as both she and myself would be quite stressed and get upset, now, thanks to Bedford, I do not have the same worries and anxiety, this is due to them actually caring for my mum like one of their own.

Reply from Paul Lawson, National Sales Manager at Bedford Care Home
