Placing your loved one into a care home is one of the most difficult decisions any family can make, particularly when all you want is to have them at home with you.
Then I had to come to terms with the shock of a complex medical diagnosis, a loved one with challenging dementia, all happening at the
start of COVID-19, and personally, it felt like a living nightmare.
We cannot think of anywhere else we would rather our beloved Dad have been; he had the best of the best throughout all his time with Asmall Hall.
We were losing Dad when he was initially admitted into care from a six-week respite. But with their love, care and support for our Dad and ourselves, we eventually had our lovely Dad in our lives for four more years.
We cannot thank the whole amazing team enough at Asmall Hall.
They managed all our rollercoaster of emotions, and I do not know how we would have coped at times.

Following a fall and a decline in our mum's mental health, we were advised that Mum needed 24-hour nursing care due to her complex needs we were offered Asmall Hall.
From Day one the staff from reception, management, nursing and care team, along with the catering team were amazing, kind supportive
and above all able to meet our mum's needs with patience, kindness and dignity.
Mum had very complex needs and could be very challenging. Thank you to the night staff who are often forgotten for the endless games of ball and singing /dancing and your patience, she didn't like to sleep!
Unfortunately Mum died in December, the end-of-life care was outstanding, the dignity and support offered to Mum and us as a family will never be forgotten, you are all angels.
As a family, we will never be able to thank you enough for all you did for our lovely, lively and often a bit naughty Mum, she loved you all.

Asmall Hall Care Home

I can't thank the owners and staff enough at Asmall Hall, they are caring, compassionate and thoughtful. It was difficult to find a suitable care home for my mother-in-law when she had to move into a fully supported environment 2 years ago. I visited many homes in the area and what stood out about Asmall
was the number of attentive staff who were with the residents in the lounge. Most of the other homes I had visited were lacking of any staff let alone staff actually interacting with residents. From the moment she moved in, she settled really quickly, this was helped by the many activities and entertainment provided for residents, she really is living her best life. She has gone from being depressed and anxious to outgoing and chatty, this is 100% down to the caring, compassionate activity-led environment she now lives in. I feel incredibly lucky that they had space for her when we were looking!
Thank you for doing an incredible job!

My mum has been a resident at Asmall Hall for a short time. when I visit my mum I can see a huge difference in her, she has improved in every aspect. She is happy, more talkative and interacting more and she is always spotless.
The staff at Asmall Hall including every single staff member from the
manager, nurses, carers, receptionist, kitchen and cleaners are all just fabulous, great care is given to all residents and going the extra mile shows. You feel so welcome when you arrive.
I have been in care myself for over 30 years but this home definitely beats any I have worked in or even seen for that matter and that is down to these fabulous people working at Asmall. I have finally relaxed knowing my mum is receiving the best care I could wish for and what my mum deserves.
I can't thank you all enough you are all doing a fantastic job. Just a lovely homely environment.

My mother has been a resident at Good Companions for some months.
She transferred from another care home following safeguarding concerns. Good companions have enabled her to self-actualise. She arrived with challenging behaviour and negative experiences from her previous placement. She is now more
at ease, living a more fulfilled life. Her advancing dementia poses occasional challenges still but I have observed how the staff treat her with kindness, listen to her concerns and try their best to bring some fun along the way. I have observed how the other residents seem to behave like they are part of this community.
This has been fostered by the clear leadership of the home manager. She clearly cares about her residents and has demonstrated her dementia skills in dealing with my mother's challenges. The staff are friendly and care about their residents.

After a 2-week hospital stay, it was clear Mum couldn't live alone in the short term, and the hospital wanted to discharge her to a care home. The first five I visited were dreadful. Thankfully Good Companions was next on my list. Immediately it had a great feel about it, it was warm and cheerful, and
they had a nice room available. Mum moved in the next day. Since she's been there, she's brighter, happier, chattier, she's getting all the hydration and warm nutritious food she needs, and the managers are acutely attentive. Making the decision to place Mum in a care home setting was a personal ordeal, and finding such a place has rested my mind. I'm happy that Mum is so well cared for, the food is excellent and is presented beautifully - that effort speaks volumes. I've seen such kindness and patience towards the residents, it is heart-melting, and there are so many daily activities! We are delighted that this care home exists, and its 'Good' accreditation doesn't do it justice.

Asmall Hall Care Home

from Rosemary J (Sister of Resident) published on 14 December 2023

My brother has Parkinson’s and dementia. Initially, we didn’t realise the extent of his dementia. After a fall we were told he needed one-to-one care.
We were worried about finding a care home where we could be confident he would be well looked after and his needs met.
Asmall Hall, what a wonderful
place. From the very first day, we felt a huge sense of relief.
The experienced nurses and carers are experts at managing his challenging behaviours. All the staff, from the top down, treat him with dignity, patience, humour and kindness. He is always clean-shaven, hair combed, and smartly dressed which was always important to him.
His behaviour is still very challenging and unpredictable towards staff, but we know that he is getting the best care at Asmall Hall and we are so happy and grateful to have him in such a wonderful place and to be so well cared for.
Words alone can’t explain how highly we regard this care home. He has been a resident here now for 14 months.
It's his home.

My mother is a resident of Benridge Care Home, she is very happy with in the home, she is always clean and well cared for, she has made good friend with one of the residents. Staff are excellent always friendly and welcoming. I would always recommend the home due to its homely atmosphere, the food is
fresh and cooked on the premises daily. I have no concerns about the care my mum is receiving, I can call anytime throughout the day, and if I have a question it will always be answered by staff. I highly recommend the home, especially to anyone living with dementia.

My mother suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and has been at Benridge Care Home for nearly a year. The staff have been wonderful with her. She has put on weight and looks much healthier. The senior healthcare assistant and the staff are lovely and they recently moved Mum to a ground-floor room as her
mobility isn't great. After caring for Mum for three years, I am now reassured that she has 24-hour care and is happy, safe and well.

Mum's been here since 2014, and during that time, her care has been fantastic. Her needs have been met on every occasion, especially over the last twelve months, as her health has deteriorated. The staff at the home are great - anything Mum needs, the home accommodates. Our family feel that we are always
involved in Mum's care and are welcome every time we visit.

My mum was in Good Companions care home in August for two weeks respite. The management were really helpful in getting her in there while we went on holiday. My sisters said my mum was happy, clean, looked well and alert and appeared to be looked after and cared for when they visited her, while I was
on away. They immediately contacted the family about any concerns or queries they had about my mum’s well being. Thank you all.

From the moment I arrived in Good Companions, I was met with friendly faces.
I was told that some of the staff have worked there for 20 years.
When we visited my mum after only a few days, she seemed better than she had for months, happier and more alert; she was saying how pampered she was and how
lovely the food was.
Mum has vascular dementia and was always anxious at home, but now she seems alot happier.
The staff are all so lovely, kind and calm; they are loving to each and every resident.
We are so happy and relieved; it's a big weight off our shoulders.
I cannot thank each and every one of the staff enough for all they do to ensure Mum is living the best life she can.

Good Companions was our clear number one choice having visited about half a dozen homes. This was mainly due to the look and feel of the home/room, but mainly due to the obvious care and attention given by the team, led by the amazing care manager. Throughout the entire time, we were in no doubt that
Mum was being cared for, both professionally and with genuine love. The entire team became Mum's 'family' during which was a terrible time with lockdown, right up until she passed away. They very quickly learned of Mum's needs, despite her being unable to communicate through speech due to her condition and when she deteriorated, they always made her feel loved and respected. They made the whole ordeal so calming for all involved. It made our family feel so confident that she was being looked after all the time. We will forever be grateful to the care manager and the team for the genuine love and care that they showed Mum and would have no qualms at all about recommending Good Companions to anyone.

My father has recently been in respite care at Good Companions. I am of the opinion that his stay was most enjoyable. The staff treated him with the utmost respect and dignity and the care was excellent in all aspects. The care manager was very supportive and readily available for any issues. Based
on this experience, I would recommend Good Companions as a trusted and caring company. I would have no hesitation in putting my father in their care for any future occasions.

Mum has been cared for at Good Companions for 9 years, the care she has received is exemplary. Having had a terrible experience in the first care home we tried it was a massive relief to get Mum safe and cared for by people who understand dementia. Mum enjoys her food, it’s been excellent! Staff are
always caring despite residents sometimes showing challenging behaviour. Activities are varied and frequent, even though Mum is now bedbound she is included when it’s possible. I am very grateful for the care Mum has received and do not hesitate to recommend Good Companions Care Home.

When Mum started living here, I fully expected some of the care to not be very caring. This could not be further from the truth, as all staff demonstrate genuine care towards their residents. I believe that this comes from the dedication to care and respect shown by the manager, who I believe has dedicated
her career to caring - she leads by example. I have seen residents truly enjoying life, and there is always an ‘occasion’ to enjoy, made all the more enjoyable by the top-class catering on offer; some of the homemade dishes (especially the cakes and desserts) would be appreciated in any restaurant.
Wonderful staff who deserve appreciation and thanks for the invaluable work they do.

I have been very pleased with the care that my sister received over the past 6 years until her death on 11/6/23.
Staff at the home have always been very caring and I have not had a moment of anxiety other than she was being cared for to the highest standard.
My sister was always well-groomed and well
dressed and her room was very clean and welcoming. Her clothing in the wardrobe was always well presented.
Staff at the home (including the chef) have always been welcoming and there was always a birthday cake and a birthday tea for her and the relatives.
It is the care and support that sets any home apart from others and the home led by the manager was exemplary.
At the end of my sister's life, the home continued to be supportive of the next of kin and I thank them sincerely for their care.
