The new manager has tightened up things, and it feels a lot more professional - her experience with dementia is a bonus as is visiting without the need for pre-booking - messaging by phone is swift and reassuring. Always a friendly welcoming atmosphere, clean, nicely decorated, no smells, and a lovely
team of people in all departments. The few I didn't rate highly have left. It would be good to meet the night staff. All staff work long hours and it would be nice to feel they had a little more time to check on frailer residents with dementia - things such as warmth and general comfortability and tidy wardrobes and drawers etc. The tea trolley is always a welcome treat especially the homemade cakes!

Initially, the home has well-kept gardens, frontage and interior. The management are very good, and try to accommodate your requests and new residents. Staff are friendly and hard working. The interior is bright and importantly clean. Each room has ensuite facilities. The home is warm, but not overheated,
which is ideal. There are communal, clean areas for residents and visitors, a courtyard, and well maintained rear garden. I would think Highfields would be one of the best residential homes in the region, overall very good.

Wyndham House has exceeded our expectations. Dad has settled in really well. The home has plenty of activities available if the residents want to join in, guests are invited in to talk, sing and even bring small animals in for the residents to interact with. The staff are kind and caring, taking time
to get to know each resident's little ways, nothing is too much trouble.

St John's House

My parents had a very good experience at St John's House. The staff were amazing in every area from care and cleaners, to management and front of house. We were made to feel welcome and overall the care was excellent. An area which could be improved is the catering with slightly larger portions for
the evening meal. It would be nice for residents to eat communally more than once day. I would certainly recommend St. John's to other people needing a care home.

Reply from Emma Bayne, General Manager at St John's House

Lincoln House Care Home

from Sarah S (Daughter of Resident) published on 31 January 2025

My mother was recently discharged from hospital and we were lucky enough to get her directly into Lincoln House for the care that she needed.
It has only been a short time that she has been a resident at Lincoln House but I cannot praise the team there enough, in particular the head nurse. If I could
give 10 stars I would. It was all very short notice getting Mum in and they did everything possible to make the transfer run as smoothly as possible. The care they give my mother is nothing less than what I could wish for. Within 24 hrs they had transformed her room to make it so homely for her. Sadly my mother isn't going to get better but since leaving hospital she has looked so much better and with the encouragement of the team there she is already participating in activities that I never thought possible when she was hospitalised. They treat every resident as an individual and do everything possible to meet their needs.

I have been a visitor to 3 residents from 2019 to date. Each time someone needs care I always highly recommend Mayfields as I have always been impressed by the facilities which are more like a high-class hotel than a care home. As you walk in the door the staff are friendly and welcoming. The caring
staff and catering are top-class. The coffee area is great as if your loved ones is able you can take them there for a drink together. As someone who hopefully has some time before I'd need this facility for myself, I would be pleased to think I could go somewhere like Mayfield.

We had no hesitation in bringing our Aunt to Mayfield as I have been informed with the care home from 2019 when a dear friend was transferred from hospital for palliative care. Since then I have recommended many people whom I continue to visit. The welcome from the start of the stay for patients whether
permanent or short stay is wonderful from all members of the staff. The atmosphere is so warm and friendly and a wonderful place for all who are involved with the 'home'. I have worked in care homes in my lifetime and this one is the top by far, for care for people in need. Super food from the kitchen and all who work in this wonderful home.

The place is so warm, friendly atmosphere when you first enter, this runs right through the home with the wonderful staff and their caring attitude towards all the residents. The Paddocks

from B E (Wife of Resident) published on 30 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 4.0 out of 5

My husband has been a resident in the Sandpiper Wing for just over a year. I visit as much as possible, I have found the staff very helpful and caring and feel he is being well looked after. The home is introducing regular resident care plan reviews and meetings with management have been reinstated
with relatives, both are a positive step forward. My husband's room is carpeted, which although regularly cleaned harbours smell and is stained, I have raised this and am aware of budgetary and other constraints, but feel hard flooring would be a vast improvement. Due to design and space, there is no family room available and the communal lounge is often full, which makes accommodating more than one visitor per resident difficult. Several items of my husband's clothing have disappeared despite being marked with his name and room number, the introduced tagging system seems to work reasonably well. Activities and events are really good, e.g., live music, buffets for friends and relatives on special occasions. They have recently introduced a visual offering of meals available for residents to choose from.

Reply from Ellie Whiting, Digital Marketing Executive at The Paddocks

Thanks for your review! We're glad to hear the staff has been helpful and that you feel your husband is being well looked after. Following your conversation with the Care Dementia Manager, the better flooring option has been addressed, and we are figuring out ways to manage the crowded visitor space. We're also working on improving our clothing tagging system. It's great to hear your husband enjoys the activities and new meal menu. We really appreciate your input and are always working to improve our home. Please do speak to us if you have any more concerns!

Fantastic team who do an amazing job supporting our dad who is ravaged by end stage dementia. This is a difficult job but the staff go above and beyond to do everything they can to support him. They have engaged the MDT team to support him in every way possible as his health and mobility decline. They
really do put extra effort into ensuring that now he is rarely able to tolerate getting out of bed he isn't alone. They visit him in his room, one of the staff goes and plays guitar to dad who used to be a wonderful musician. They continue to try to see the man that once was through the veil of dementia and treat him with such care and kind respect although at times he can be quite aggressive and confused. They also do a great deal to support the rest of the family through this difficult time. They are so kind and welcoming to us all. We are so grateful for the staff and only wish they received a greater proportion of the high fees paid.

The activity staff and carers are lovely. The activity staff keep the residents active and engaged, they show genuine care for the residents. The carers, who have a hard time as there always seems to be not enough staff to go round, are very caring and patient. The home is friendly and homely but unfortunately
I feel that the staff always appear to be under pressure, whether that's because of poor management or a lack of staff members I'm unsure. We did look at other care homes for my aunt and felt Lincoln House was the best one for her and still believe this is true, even with the few concerns we have.

Mayfields is marvellous! Leaving behind ones 'home', belongings and a familiar lifestyle is a very big and tough decision to make. But for my, I am so happy to be here - after living alone in isolation and fear of falling.
One must be prepared for a new way of life. There is always someone to talk
to and activities to get involved in but areas where there is the chance to sit and have solitude if required.
