Chestnut Lodge

My father was a resident at Chestnut Lodge from March 2024 until his death in February 2024. Throughout his time here he was treated with respect and understanding, and the care he was shown, often in challenging circumstances due to his worsening dementia, was exemplary. My family and I were very regular
visitors - between us we were there around 4 times a week, often more - and we got to know the wonderful carers and nursing staff well, and were able to observe first-hand the care he was given. The highly experienced senior management team inspired confidence, and showed great compassion throughout his stay. We are hugely grateful for the care and professionalism shown by the wonderful team there, who go above and beyond, in challenging circumstances, to look after the residents.

Thank you for your very positive feedback. It was a pleasure looking after your father and I pleased you felt the care he received was exemplary. He took a while to settle but did. We had many interesting chats about his time in business.I am pleased we were able to support you all.

The first time my mum, who is very young with early onset Alzheimer's, has stayed in a care home for respite. The staff have been truly wonderful from start to finish and made my mum feel comfortable and safe and she really enjoyed her stay. This also helped ease my own sense of anxiety about leaving
her. Thank you so much for looking after her so well.

Camelot House took care of my mother for the last two years of her life. The care and attention that she had was fantastic. They kept me informed if there were any concerns. Visiting was easy and they always gave me time to ask about her. I have nothing but praise for all the staff at Camelot House.

My husband and I would like to thank the management team, and the entire team at Butterfly Lodge for the loving care and attention that they all showed my mother who, having been a resident for the last sixteen months, finally passed away recently. Her dementia had got progressively worse over time
and eventually, it caught up with her. The care that she was given and the kindness shown to me, towards the end, whilst I was with her, was exceptional and we can not recommend the home or the staff enough.

I can't speak highly enough of Butterfly Loge. My mum (age 102 in July) has been a resident there since May 2022 and has always received the highest level of care from every member of the team. I would highly recommend Butterfly for anyone looking for a care home for their loved ones.

It was a hard decision to commit my dear mum's care to a nursing home but I couldn't have chosen better. The comfort and support that both she and my family have received from both management and staff has been superb.
The surroundings are bright and cheerful and visitors are always made so welcome.
Mum is so well cared for and the standard of food and activities is second to none. The staff are all so patient and kind - the atmosphere is just so warm and friendly. I now have peace of mind and no longer worry about her having a fall or forgetting her medication.
Well done Avalon for providing such a lovely caring place.

After experiencing a number of other care homes, finally, at Butterfly Lodge, we have found staff and an environment that we trust are very well-equipped to take care of our parent's needs. The team understand dementia well and are patient, caring and compassionate, also creative in stimulating and
entertaining the residents. Food also very good! Thank you all.

I have visited different times of the day - always clean and welcoming. My mum is not encouraged to use a walking stick which she went in with and hospital advised. I understand it's now lost/gone missing. A secure post box into the office would be a great help as I pay the bill by cheque, having to
get staff to put it into the office each time. Never has her hearing aids in, it's hard I know but she needs them and I just got new ones in December at ÂŁ500 because the last home lost hers. Overall - great place on hygiene, food (I think), staff but a lot of money each week for things not to be getting 100%.

Reply from Graham Oakes, Registered Manager at Chestnut Lodge

Thank you for your kind words about the home. When you next visit, please either speak to me or one of the nurses so we can update on your mother's care needs, mobility, hearing, etc. We have at least two nurses working every day and I'm here Monday to Friday. Our receptionist can assist you to set up a Direct Debit to make your life easier. Thank you for your suggestion of a secure post box into our reception, we will look into that. I will pass on your praise for the domestic and care teams.

My mum was admitted in April 2024 with advanced Alzheimer's. The care she receives at Avalon Nursing Home is exemplary and far beyond our expectations. There is genuine love and affection for all residents and a determination to ensure that they are treated as individuals at all times and respected
as such. I can't recommend Avalon highly enough and the staff team are just amazing.

Our mum has been here a few weeks now, having moved from another nursing home, this place is a home in the true sense of the word, warm, welcoming, with wonderful, caring staff and I mean the whole team. Our lives have been enriched from getting to know the staff and them getting to know our mum and
us, we can finally sleep at night, safe in the knowledge that our mum is getting the care we know she needs. Alzheimer's is a dreadful disease and it has impacted the whole family but Butterfly Lodge has finally given us the peace of mind we so desperately needed for our mum. We never worry about asking things and discussing them with the management team who always welcome us warmly, always a smile and a friendly greeting. What a joyful place this is. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The food is fresh and wholesome and always prepared and served with a smile. The nursing staff are well-trained and exceptionally caring. This place is outstanding in every way.

Butterfly Lodge

from Diane H (Regular Volunteer) published on 23 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

I am most impressed about the very caring culture of staff in Butterfly Lodge. Their skill at managing difficult behaviour. Everyone, from the cleaners, the laundry workers the handyman etc., has time for the residents. The care staff are very busy but still make time to listen and show interest in
everyone. All of the staff know every resident well, their personalities, their likes and dislikes as well as their backgrounds and previous lives. Which means they are seen as whole persons and not just how they present under the effect of dementia. I work with the activities team who take people out whenever they can and if not, find things to do indoors. Special dates are marked, for example at Valentine's, a meal is arranged for them with their partners and the tables are laid up like a really nice restaurant. Burns night will involve a Scottish piper and haggis for dinner etc.
I love helping out here and really enjoy the time I spend in Butterfly Lodge.

I would like to thank the management and the staff of Butterfly Lodge.
We had to move Mum from a nursing home in 2024.
Since being at Butterfly, Mum is walking on her frame.
Mum is doing and enjoying activities daily with some fantastic staff and volunteers.
Mum is less agitated, less bored and
being cared for.
On my visits to Mum, I find every member of staff so caring and supportive to the residents and the relatives that visit.
The home is kept absolutely spotless.
I absolutely love that the home takes the residents out on the little minibus that is funded by raising money throughout the year.
How fantastic is that?
Thank you all for being there for all residents and families.
I would recommend Butterfly Lodge to any relative that needs to put a loved one into nursing care.

The care/nursing staff are all so very friendly when I visit and treat Mum with a lot of care and compassion. When Mum hasn't been well, I always get a call to inform me and one to update me on how she is doing, I could not have asked for a better care home for Mum to have been placed in, keep up the
good work.

My mum has dementia and has been a resident at Butterfly Lodge since 2024. She has flourished since living here. We were really struggling, as a family, to meet her needs at home but since moving here, Mum has received the absolute best care, round-the-clock care, regular updates from all the staff.
There's always a friendly face when we visit. Highly recommend.

My father has received excellent care over the past couple of years. He is treated with patience and kindness by all of the staff at the home, who work hard looking after him. Especially now that he has mobility issues and has to depend totally on the help of the carers. He really enjoys the food and
often tells me that it is very tasty. His room has been kept spotlessly clean and tidy, as are his clothes. Each week there is either entertainment, singalongs, pampering sessions or trips to the memory cafe. I am kept informed of any changes to his health by the excellent nursing staff who are always on hand.

Camelot House and Lodge

from N B (Son-in-law of Resident) published on 21 January 2025
Overall Experience  Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5

My father in law spent just under three years at the Camelot House and Lodge after entering for respite care. Not having spent any time within a care home, and my wife struggling to accept the situation we now found ourselves in, our minds were soon put at ease with the level of care and compassion
the team at Camelot provide. From the beginning to the end, almost three years later, the level didn't drop and we were kept up to date with any changes or situations on an immediate basis. The space, environment and activities suited our family member during his residency and nothing was too much trouble. We were able to take him out for short periods, they would offer to accompany or even bring him to family events. The professionalism that was displayed and delivered through the entire period, will not be forgotten. We'll continue to try and support Camelot, where we can, for as long as we can, out of respect for way they looked after us and our family members.
