The staff look after my brother with kindness, patience and dignity, they listen to him and calm him if needed and encourage him to join in activities. Any medical concerns are dealt with efficiently with a GP if necessary. The staff keep me informed I have no concerns about talking to the staff if
I am worried about anything to do with my brother's care. They always listen and take action if needed. I have peace of mind that my brother is in a safe environment.

I cannot fault the home in any way. The care my mum receives is top level. The staff are so caring and friendly, they make everyone feel so welcome. They go above and beyond caring for the residents and helping us (family) when we are struggling with watching our loved ones health decline.

What an amazing place! The staff are genuinely friendly, caring, and loving. I asked my Mum how she feels living at Cedar Court and she said "Part of something.". Due to Mum's dementia, she has some very challenging behaviours which are managed very well. The carers are absolutely outstanding. I can
never praise and thank them enough! I feel Cedar staff are part of my Mum's and my family, thank you.

Warm, friendly atmosphere, really nice staff, always get a warm welcome. I find comfort in the fact that my mum is being looked after by such caring and kind people. Clean building and well-maintained rounds. The staff seem so much more friendly than the care home my mum was previously at.

Our experience with Cedar Court Care Home has been amazing. My mum was here for over two years in which she was well looked after and wanted for nothing. The staff are absolutely amazing and extremely caring and helpful which with us living in Spain made this easier and peace of mind as we knew Mum
was being looked after.

From the day my mother arrived at Cedar Court, she has been well looked after, has been treated with dignity and friendship. The staff have been respectful, also always willing to talk and keep me updated. Every visit, they are friendly and welcoming. My mother adores them all, and I can see why every
time I visit.

Cannot thank staff (including the handyman) for all their care and kindness during a very difficult time for everyone. Whatever is happening you are always treated as family and made welcome. This facility always seems filled with laughter and love, so very important for clients and visitors.

I regularly go in and do a hymn sing with the residents.
I am also often called in when there are end of life issues.
I have always found, over the past seven years, the home to be friendly, helpful and dignity-giving to the residents.

My sister became a resident of Cedar Court in March 2021. She was in another care home for 11 weeks and went from there into hospital for 6 months. I was very anxious about her moving into another care home because of previous experiences. I was very soon made to feel reassured that she was happy and
well cared for. I have been kept fully informed of any changes to her health/care (she was very underweight) and needs constant encouragement to eat. They have even managed to get her to put in a few pounds. I have nothing but praise for the care and kindness she receives from the staff who work in a very challenging profession as well as the additional pressures that the Pandemic has presented.

I visited Cedar Court Care Home to spend some time with my Mother and brought along an old friend and neighbour of hers. We were greeted in the usual warm manner and taken to my Mother's room. She has a lovely room overlooking the garden and as ever, it was spotlessly clean. She has settled well in
the home and is very well looked after. I can see just how much she is cared for and the amount of effort the staff go to to ensure she is comfortable and relaxed. I know quite a few members of staff now, all of which are lovely. They really are like a family, for which I am very grateful.

Mum loved being at Cedar Court. She loved the staff and chose the home because of the animals. They were brilliant with me, keeping in touch and letting me when she wasn't well. Because I am in Australia, it made me feel so much closer. I always thought that she was safe, and they did that for me. Nothing
but praise for them. She would not have lasted had she stayed in her own home. A big thank you to them all.

From the terrible day that I took my husband to Cedar Court, knowing it would be the last time he would ever see his home again, the greeting they gave us was lovely. The home may be a little tired and need updating, but that is irrelevant as to the care they provide. They always make me feel welcome
when I visit. Now under these most difficult times, they are more than happy to keep me updated on the phone. I cannot express my gratitude enough for the care and understanding they give my husband.

I would like to thank a lot of the team at Cedar Court for looking after my sister until she recently passed away. Over the years I have become friends with a lot of the staff. Even when under extreme pressure they still made time to tell me how my sister was. I wasn't there at the end but I know the
carers were. Knowing that she was not by herself is very comforting. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and I will keep in touch.

My visits always found the staff very helpful and friendly. As time went on my wife became very ill until she passed away. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to be by her side but the carers were and that is very comforting to me. At this difficult time, the team at Cedar Court was amazing, very caring and
compassionate.

Cedar Court's staff cared for my husband for nine years with so much love and respect. It is a lovely home where the staff go above and beyond the care they give. I was also made to feel so welcome, part of a living, caring family. I will never be able to thank them enough.

Current Review Score: 8.3 (8.291)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.3 (8.291) out of 10 for Cedar Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.6 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.722 for Cedar Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (27 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 4.722

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.569 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cedar Court Care Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 47 registered maximum number of service users is 9.4. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.4 = 0.319

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Richard

Richard Buckland

Job Title: Home Manager, Cedar Court Care Home in Abbeywood

“The residents are what makes my job so special and enjoyable.”

Richard has worked in the Health and Social Care sector for 18 years. He began his career at Cedar Court as a Care Assistant, before working his way up to becoming Home Manager in 2016. Richard has always enjoyed the company of the elderly and hearing about their life stories, which is why he jumped at the chance to work at Cedar Court.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
The residents are what makes my job so special and enjoyable. Every day brings new stories, challenges and lots of laughter.

What are your favourite hobbies and pastimes?
My family along with my residents are my biggest priority. I finally married the love of my life in 2019 after 23 years!

I also love to be out in the garden, which is a bonus as Cedar Court has a lovely big garden and my residents love to get involved in helping me with gardening

Are there any highlights in your career you are particularly proud of?
I’m extremely proud of being nominated for and winning the Dementia Care Champion of the Year 2019. I was also nominated for Best Dementia Home Manager at The National Care Awards and I was selected for the final 5, but unfortunately was pipped to the post for that one.

What are your Qualifications?
I started as a Care Assistant in 2002 and after completing my NVQ2 & 3, I was offered the job of Team Leader, which I thoroughly enjoyed, as I love a challenge. In 2013, I became the Deputy Manager and then Home Manager in 2016, which I feel is my vocation in life.

What top tips would you give someone when looking for the right care home?
Pick up the phone and have a chat, do as much research as you can and don't be afraid to ask lots of questions. If the home is right, you will just get a gut feeling as soon as you walk in (well, this is what all of our relatives tell us anyway!).
