The Review Score of 8.3 (8.291) out of 10 for Cedar Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.
a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.
b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.6 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.
The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:
a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.
The Average Rating of 4.722 for Cedar Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (27 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 4.722
b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').
The 3.569 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cedar Court Care Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:
The 5 points available are broken down as follows:
i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25
ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 47 registered maximum number of service users is 9.4. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.4 = 0.319
When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager, Cedar Court Care Home in Abbeywood
“The residents are what makes my job so special and enjoyable.”
Richard has worked in the Health and Social Care sector for 18 years. He began his career at Cedar Court as a Care Assistant, before working his way up to becoming Home Manager in 2016. Richard has always enjoyed the company of the elderly and hearing about their life stories, which is why he jumped at the chance to work at Cedar Court.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The residents are what makes my job so special and enjoyable. Every day brings new stories, challenges and lots of laughter.
What are your favourite hobbies and pastimes?
My family along with my residents are my biggest priority. I finally married the love of my life in 2019 after 23 years!
I also love to be out in the garden, which is a bonus as Cedar Court has a lovely big garden and my residents love to get involved in helping me with gardening
Are there any highlights in your career you are particularly proud of?
I’m extremely proud of being nominated for and winning the Dementia Care Champion of the Year 2019. I was also nominated for Best Dementia Home Manager at The National Care Awards and I was selected for the final 5, but unfortunately was pipped to the post for that one.
What are your Qualifications?
I started as a Care Assistant in 2002 and after completing my NVQ2 & 3, I was offered the job of Team Leader, which I thoroughly enjoyed, as I love a challenge. In 2013, I became the Deputy Manager and then Home Manager in 2016, which I feel is my vocation in life.
What top tips would you give someone when looking for the right care home?
Pick up the phone and have a chat, do as much research as you can and don't be afraid to ask lots of questions. If the home is right, you will just get a gut feeling as soon as you walk in (well, this is what all of our relatives tell us anyway!).
