The management goes above and beyond for my granddad. They help through day to day and always keep him included in every activity. Always giving him a reason to smile every day because not only are they carers they are family to him now. I have so much trust in this care home and I know my granddad
is always looked after and cherished.

Staff are caring although there never seems to be enough of them at times. A few more activities would be good. I am grateful that the staff keep me informed of any changes to Mum's health or welfare.

The staff are excellent, very caring. The furniture in the lounge is very tatty, the home desperately needs a refurbishment.
The garden area is nice but always lots of cigarette butts everywhere. Once again chairs very tatty.

When you place a parent in a care home, there are lots of things that cross your mind, such as facilities, activities and staff. I must say how impressed all my family are with the care given to my Mum. She feels she is part of a larger family now and the peace of mind this has given me is second to
none. Well done to all Cedar Court staff.

My husband was really worried when choosing where he should place his Mum, but after choosing Cedar Court we do not think we could've made a better choice. Professional, polite and always helpful. The staff are brilliant and the home is managed excellently. Well done to all concerned, we can sleep easy
at night knowing Mum is being looked after well.

As I am a regular visitor the staff are always pleasant and I am greeted by my name. I enquire how my husband is and if the staff member/s have just come on shift, they will ask a colleague who has been there longer to give me some update. I receive calls if he has seen the doctor, even if it is to
say he is being monitored, drink and food wise. The atmosphere is friendly, calm, caring and responsive to any concerns.

The home was recommended to me by a former resident family member and came highly recommended. The staff are very professional and very helpful. I have no concern with the home and would not hesitate to recommend them.

Mum was extremely ill last November, spent two spells in hospital and we thought we would lose her by Christmas. The staff at Cedar court worked closely with us to get Mum back to the home and then restore her health to a position for better than the last couple of years. They continue to ensure Mum
is carefully monitored and keep us informed and importantly included in her continual healthy state. Every one of the staff makes a positive contribution to Mum's health and welfare and we feel included. Cedar Court is a happy home and they always work in Mum's best interest.

The home provides a safe and secure caring and friendly environment and we feel confident to leave our mother in their care.
They provide a home to mum where she has the freedom to be herself and where our family can visit at any time of the day or night.
They provide extra activities for residents
to take part in if they can and want to and they encourage our family to be part of the home.

Cedar Court is an exceptional care home. Warm, welcoming and lovely friendly staff. My mum spent three years in Cedar Court and the care provided was extremely professional and loving. Mums room was clean, bright and comfortable. Staff are quick to spot you and will tell you something that happened
during the week, or will tell you if your relative is off colour. The Foyer is lovely to walk into. Clean and bright and always sweet smelling. Tea and Coffee available to help yourself. Occasions are celebrated and the home beautifully decorated at Christmas, Halloween, Easter and Royal events. The animals that wander around help to create a homely atmosphere and the Garden is simply beautiful. The parties are legendary and residents are entertained and well fed. I cannot fault the care and commitment of all the staff and we are just so grateful that our mum was able to call Cedar Court her home. It's a lovely place to spend your final years.

Enjoyed yet another musical entertainment provided by the home. The artists allow the residents to have the microphone and sing the song and everyone can join in. I am looking forward to the next one in a couple of weeks time.

It is a pity that more people do not attend the relatives' meeting when

the staff have given up their time to tell everyone what is going on but I presume that they have no worries and do not feel that it is necessary to show support.

Current Review Score: 8.3 (8.291)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.3 (8.291) out of 10 for Cedar Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.6 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.722 for Cedar Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (27 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 4.722

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.569 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Cedar Court Care Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 47 registered maximum number of service users is 9.4. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.4 = 0.319

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Richard

Richard Buckland

Job Title: Home Manager, Cedar Court Care Home in Abbeywood

“The residents are what makes my job so special and enjoyable.”

Richard has worked in the Health and Social Care sector for 18 years. He began his career at Cedar Court as a Care Assistant, before working his way up to becoming Home Manager in 2016. Richard has always enjoyed the company of the elderly and hearing about their life stories, which is why he jumped at the chance to work at Cedar Court.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
The residents are what makes my job so special and enjoyable. Every day brings new stories, challenges and lots of laughter.

What are your favourite hobbies and pastimes?
My family along with my residents are my biggest priority. I finally married the love of my life in 2019 after 23 years!

I also love to be out in the garden, which is a bonus as Cedar Court has a lovely big garden and my residents love to get involved in helping me with gardening

Are there any highlights in your career you are particularly proud of?
I’m extremely proud of being nominated for and winning the Dementia Care Champion of the Year 2019. I was also nominated for Best Dementia Home Manager at The National Care Awards and I was selected for the final 5, but unfortunately was pipped to the post for that one.

What are your Qualifications?
I started as a Care Assistant in 2002 and after completing my NVQ2 & 3, I was offered the job of Team Leader, which I thoroughly enjoyed, as I love a challenge. In 2013, I became the Deputy Manager and then Home Manager in 2016, which I feel is my vocation in life.

What top tips would you give someone when looking for the right care home?
Pick up the phone and have a chat, do as much research as you can and don't be afraid to ask lots of questions. If the home is right, you will just get a gut feeling as soon as you walk in (well, this is what all of our relatives tell us anyway!).
