She finds the staff
Music plays a big part in making for a cheerful atmosphere and to help the residents, particularly those with dementia, remember past times.

I agree that the building does not lend itself to the vast expanse of new builds but it does more than compensate in the care and warmth of the service provided. Sometimes, the many smaller rooms of interest to lend themselves to a more homely feel though as you have recognised yourself.
