The Devonshire Care Home is a specialist dementia care home and day centre with over 35 years of experience with consistently high CQC ratings.

The home has been successful in breakdown placements from other homes where needs could not be met. Small adjustments in care make a huge difference.

The unique care model supports the exceptional staff to weave thoughtful and subtle interventions and therapies into the daily life of residents and day guests. Residents thrive not just survive.

Each day is, therefore, more meaningful and residents and day guests experience an increase in well being and reduction in anxiety and agitation.

The home has a day guest programme for those families who are not quite ready to make the transition to residential care.

Residents are not restricted to a floor or a wing and can enjoy exploring the whole house, the street garden and visit the Devonshire Lyons Tea Room for afternoon tea, the market stall, hairdressing saloon/barbershop, tool shed in the day centre.

The care that my mother received was second to none. The home is run like a family environment and each resident is treated with respect and keeps their dignity. Mum loved the meals too! Families are updated immediately if there are any changes. I would recommend this home to anyone.

The Devonshire has maintained high standards of care and management during these difficult times. They look after my mother with constant attention to whatever can improve her daily life and well being. The staff at the Devonshire are truly exceptional. They take the time to get to know residents and their families in order to provide the very best of care and treat every resident as if they were a member of their own family. I can't thank the Devonshire enough for their warm, caring and compassionate
approach where nothing is impossible. My nan spent two very happy years at the Devonshire where staff did everything possible to give her a very good quality of life. This includes upskilling themselves in the latest research into dementia and providing a wide range of therapies to help residents cope with this terrible disease. The Devonshire will always hold a special place in my heart. The staff are true heroes.

It became apparent that because of advancing dementia our elderly mother could no longer remain living alone at home safely despite the attendance of daily carers and the decision was made reluctantly and with a degree of trepidation to transfer her to a care home.
We were extremely fortunate to be
able to locate the Devonshire Dementia Care Home where a room became available and where all of our mother's children and their families would be able to visit her regularly.
Because the Devonshire was able to offer specialised care she was moved to an environment in which all of her requirements could be met without distraction by dedicated dementia care staff who would prove to be sympathetic and without exception genuinely very caring.
Our mother's room was redecorated beforehand and personalised by hanging some of her own paintings and family photographs on the walls.
When she was moved she immediately became accustomed to her new surroundings and encouraged by the staff felt very much at home despite being unaware that she was now living in a care home.
Her quality of life was much enriched by humour, stimulating activities and encouragement until her death seven months later.

The moment we walked through the front door, we could feel the friendly atmosphere.
The staff are all so very friendly and caring, I have not yet come across one member of staff that is unapproachable. It doesn't matter what time of day you visit, they are always very welcoming. No complaints about
laundry or food. My mother has been there for a year now and I am very pleased with her care. Lots of communication and the rooms are kept up to standard.

My mother has been in this care home for 3 years (after being in 3 different ones). From day one the staff have been amazing and with the wrap around care and hour by hour care (which I had never heard of) she has been looked after with the most caring staff I have ever met. I get regular monthly updates
and yearly reviews. We have quarterly advocates meetings where other relatives can meet and speakers are often arranged. My mother has twice daily outings in their very own bus which she loves! They have a little pub area which is open daily from 4 pm to 5 pm for residents and visitors and are always thinking of new ideas to make life more comfortable and homely for the residents. They have annual BBQs and Xmas parties and other events too. I can call or visit at any time day or night and nothing is ever too much trouble. The staff are always understanding and really have the time to care for my mothers needs and I feel relaxed knowing she is so well looked after.

As soon as my mother arrived at Devonshire, it was clear we had chosen very well. The facilities are very good and the staff are wonderful.
Each time I visited, I witnessed extraordinary care, the interaction between staff and residents gave me a satisfaction that my mother was being really well looked
after.
The entertainment trips (to the park, art galleries etc) gave my mother quality of life which made our entire family very happy.
The Xmas party was fantastic with everyone involved. Wonderful.

My Mum had asked to stay in her own home and it was difficult for the family when this was no longer possible. It took a while for us to decide that Mum would benefit from specialist dementia care.
I researched online and found the Devonshire. The initial visit convinced us that the Devonshire was
going to be able to provide the kind of care Mum needed. Mum lived in the home for seven months until her death in December. During that time the family spent many hours at the home and were continually impressed by the standard of care and the ethos of the home.
Everyone working at the Devonshire has training about dementia and this provides a safe and stimulating environment for the residents. Mum settled in quickly and was able to go out most weekdays on 'fresh air drives' to places she had loved all her life.
The staff are endlessly kind and there is humour and fun that I would not have expected. I have no reservations about recommending this home.

The Devonshire Care Home has provided my mum with an environment that is familiar, comfortable and where all her needs are met and encouraged to be as active as she chooses to be. The staff are truly amazing. They are well informed regarding all aspects of Dementia care. Thoroughly professional at all
times, the staff are positive and always find time to be involved one to one with each resident, listening to stories from the past, sharing a laugh and a joke, holding a hand or giving a reassuring hug. I can recommend The Devonshire Care Home without hesitation.

First, visit to the home I was made to feel very welcome and taken to my aunt. Offered a drink and spent one and a half hours with my aunt in the lounge area. Lots of staff visible and available for residents. Staff happy to answer any questions I had.

Smith

Smith Sasi

Job Title: Care Home Manager

Joined: 2015

Smithmon, who likes to be called Smith, joined the Devonshire team in 2015.


He has an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, a Level 7 Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership and Management in Health Care and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.


Smith started at the Devonshire as an Assistant Manager. Next, he helped establish and run the Devonshire Dementia Day Centre as Director and is now Care Manager of both the Care Home and the Day Centre.


He has studied Dementia and each Montessori method. He is also a Positive Approach To Care® (PAC) Champion Coach, Trainer, Consultant, and Engagement Leader, as he continues to work with Teepa Snow to improve care standards all over the country. Smith is also a certified dementia mapper.


After graduating in India with a Nursing Degree, he worked for two years and then came to London. While studying, he started working in the care industry. His love and respect for his grandparents, his Indian heritage, his gentle manner, and passion to provide exceptional care has led him further down this path. He is leading his team to learn the most effective approaches in dementia care and works tirelessly to make a difference in people's lives.


Smith’s ultimate aim is to provide seamless care for the Residents and Day Guests, at the same time educating and reassuring every family member struggling to provide care to their loved ones.

Donna Bedford

Job Title: Deputy Manager

DEPUTY MANAGER: DONNA BEDFORD
Donna joined the Devonshire Care Team in May 2013 as a Carer; she had never worked in care before. She was promoted to Assistant Manager in 2016 and Deputy Manager in 2019. Her stellar rise to Deputy Manager is a result of her caring personality, popularity with Residents and her calm nature, together with her organisational skills at multi-tasking and going that extra mile. Donna has a QCF level 3 in Health and Social Care and is a certified dementia mapper. She has taken validation training, is a Positive Approach to Care Champion and is presently completing her Trainers Certificate. She loves every aspect of her job at the Devonshire and says her heart is at the Devonshire, the Residents are like family and she wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. She tries to make every day different and special for the Residents and Day Guests.


Yvette

Yvette Nwagira

Job Title: Assistant Manager

ASSISTANT MANAGER: YVETTE NWAGIRA
Yvette was born and grew up in Uganda. She came to the UK in 1997. Nuwagira joined our care team as a carer in February 2016.and was promoted to Assistant Manager in 2017. She has a degree in Psycho Social Studies and is completing her Mental Health Nursing at the University of Kingston. Yvette's soft, gentle and caring manner is very popular with our Residents and her lovely smile is infectious. Her observational skills together with her attention to detail ensure that our Residents’ needs are all identified. Yvette loves the Residents, Day Guest and Families and feels the culture of the Devonshire feels like home. Yvette particularly enjoys the training and experiences and says that working at the Devonshire has been a life changing experience for her

Jola De Koker

Job Title: Admin Assistant

ADMIN ASSISTANT: JOLA DE KOKER
Jola joined the Devonshire Team in June 2018. She has a Masters degree in Teaching and Translation and before moving to the UK worked as a teacher in Poland for 4 years. Jola has an NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care. She loves working at the Devonshire because every day is different and broadens her knowledge about dementia. It makes her appreciate the small details about life even more. She loves being surrounded by friendly people and the special joy she feels when Residents and Day Guests smile!
