Homemead specialises in dementia care, offering a comfortable and stress-free environment that is ideal for those living with the effects of memory loss, while being warm and welcoming towards visiting loved ones.

The focus is on an ‘Out Not In’ approach that looks holistically at both mind and body acknowledging that engagement with society and nature is key to experiencing life. It uses everyday events to stimulate and maintain cognitive function and uses retained conditioned behaviour as a tool to encourage engagement and reduce anxiety.

This converted Edwardian house is equipped for modern care practice, getting the best out of the skilled team who maintain the service with the long-term well-being of residents in mind. They have a variety of technology solutions that enrich their care offering. This pioneering use of technology saw Homemead named as a finalist in the 2022 Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards, while their ongoing excellence in supporting those living with dementia saw them receive the Dignity Award from Richmond Social Services.

Occupants have an active and interesting lifestyle supported, with a summer house, secure garden and Internet access being some of the additional features to enjoy. In November 2014, one of Homemead care staff won an award "Best Carer of the Year".

Lovely friendly staff. Such caring people. Home is clean and homely. Very spacious for residents and very good lock system on front door. Very happy with the care my Nan gets. Overall such a great place and I'm very happy with the care and love in the home.

Myself, my two brothers and mum's friends (who visit from time to time) have found all aspects of Homemead's care to be excellent. The staff are especially friendly and energetic and always keen to ensure that residents are safe and productively occupied. We are particularly impressed by the program

My wife has been in the care home for two years with Alzheimer's. For me, it is an absolutely horrible experience. However, the care home makes the situation much better. Of course, in this specific situation, all is not perfect nor would I expect it to be. But, it is a place where my wife has to be
and the staff are terrific, loving, hugging and tender (to me as well!). Well above the call of duty. The surroundings are pleasant. The management appears to make every effort to ensure all is as good as could be expected.
My wife does not know the names of anybody there, residents or staff but seems to be as happy as she can be under the circumstances.

My mother has been a resident of Homemead for 5 years and we couldn't be happier. She is treated with dignity and care and has a smile on her face which is invaluable and reassuring. The staff are caring and attentive and treat my mother like one of their own!
The home has recently had a refurb which
is great and although there are other homes in the area none for me offered the homely, communal, reassuring atmosphere that Homemead does. I would definitely recommend the home to others.

My mother has dementia and has been at Homemead since May 2024 - Her general health has improved since moving from her home and having regular care, meals and people around I believe are a great benefit to her. She has visits from her friends as she lived in Teddington her whole life, so being accessible
for them is a benefit. There is always parking, but not always private spaces to have conversations (other than her room).
I live far away I only get to visit once every 3 to 4 months, so it would be useful if I could have a regular (fortnightly / monthly) one-on-one with the care team (over video chat) to get some feedback on her condition.
The staff have always been helpful and have time to chat.
The staff have also attended to her specific needs where she requests them.

The carers at Homemead are a 10/10. They genuinely care about the residents and they will often cuddle, laugh, sing and dance with them. They are warm and kind and it shows in the way the residents interact with them. When I can't visit I feel assured that my mum is safe and well looked after. There
are lots of agency staff but that goes with the territory because of the poor pay for care workers, however, I have only seen them be hard-working and gentle with the residents. The team leaders are proactive and if you have a concern you know it will be dealt with. They lead with enthusiasm and kindness.
Homemead has recently had a facelift - it looks really good and suits the age of the property. I would like to see more activities to help pass the days, including more gardening and outside activities in the warmer months.

Visited my mother on 19th November 2024 to take her out for lunch. Spent a few hours at Homemead and found all staff to be polite and helpful in getting her ready to go out. Returned from lunch and again the staff went out of their way to welcome my mother back. Left her with a smile on her face.

I visited my mother and I was pleased how well she is looked after. The carers are attentive and kind. The standard of care seems consistently high and my mother appears to have everything she needs at the home.

My mum is (I think ) the longest serving resident of Homemead. She became a resident in December 2016. She is now advanced Alzheimer's. I can only say Homemead is fantastic. I know mum is in the best place and the staff are so caring and know my mum so well. I know they will always call me with any
concerns. I am so glad I chose this home for my mum.

Homemead is a small, friendly home with a caring staff team and my mum always seems happy and well looked after when I visit. As her needs have changed and she needs more input, the staff have always responded quickly and kept me informed which I appreciate. A couple of areas for improvement would be,
less reliance on agency staff, as obviously they are less involved and less aware of individual needs than the permanent staff. Also whilst I can't fault communication when it is an essential or emergency situation, sometimes on an everyday level it can be a bit up and down, it would be great to have a more regular update on mum and any needs she has or activities she's been involved in etc. However, overall, I am happy to have found Homemead for mum as she is happy, safe and well cared for.

Pros: All staff are friendly and helpful.
Staff, especially the team leads and keyworker take time to communicate with relatives.
Lovely feel to the home.
Mum is well cared for and we are generally very happy.
The provision of physio as needed is great.
Prompt response to any medical needs.
The
management team have improved in the last few months with 2 new members.
Cons: A lot of agency staff - some of whom have become regular. Permanent staff are very busy and under a lot of pressure.
Unsure how many activities take place each week. Residents are often sitting in the lounge with the TV on when l visit. (Could be timing).
Would be good to use other rooms and garden more for small group activities.
More opportunities for physical exercise would be good.
Front door is not ideal from an access point of view - narrow doorway with steps.

We acknowledge the high agency use and have been working hard to address this so I am pleased to share that we have recently recruited a number of new staff who will be starting with us soon. We have also reinstated our activities board so that residents and families are able to see what is happening in the home and we have a number of exciting events coming up including regular exercise classes and days out. We also have a full redecoration programme planned this year and whilst unfortunately, we are unable to change some of the structural aspects of the building we will put in place all we can to ensure the continued safety of our residents. I find the staff very caring. Nice garden too. I think my father is well looked after there and the staff are always very friendly when we visit. Good parking too. It’s a good location as well for taking out my dad.

My father was admitted to Homemead very quickly in November, and the staff and managers were extremely helpful and sympathetic. They looked after my father extremely well, even though he was only there for a short while. I would like to thank them for all their care and patience when caring for my dad.
He also enjoyed the food and often said how good it was. I was grateful for that, as he was known to be a fussy eater!

Excellent service and very friendly care, at the core of which are a team of highly professional and patient staff. My mother settled in far more quietly that I even expected, and now has a far better standard of life than she ever could have sustained at home.

I was able to spend an hour "chatting" with my Aunt in her own room (she has dementia), she was brought from the lounge (communal) so I do not know what she was doing there.
The staff who came to fetch her for her lunch were smiling and greeted my aunt as old friends. So no real conversation but all
in all a successful visit.

The staff are excellent. This is a warm and caring home that is run by a charity (i.e.not for-profit) that focuses on dementia care. I am so happy I found it for my mother.

I would like to just add to my original review regarding my 95-year-old mother, who has been a resident at Homemead since April 2018. My family and I continue to be very happy with Homemead as we feel that she gets a lot of wonderful care there and the staff are so kind and caring. There is always a
lot going on, which keeps my mother happy as she loves being around people. The manager is extremely hard working, is always very proactive with any concerns you may have and is a great communicator. The team leaders are all lovely, as are the rest of the staff, and all of them are very helpful and cheerful and really care about the residents. As I always tell the manager, Homemead is very homely, unlike some I visited when looking for a home for my mother.

Homemead Care Home in my opinion provided my dementia suffering parent with the love and care they received when living at home with me. I will go further and say the compassion they showed went beyond anything I could ever provide. Through patience, understanding and great communication, we saw how
much our loved one benefited and improved their quality of life. Through continuous engagement my parent had a feeling of belonging, they settled easily and a reduction in anxiety was seen by friends and family speaking to them. The most important aspect of care was the medical duty of care, Homemead managed hospital visits and took ownership of the best next steps which could only be replicated by a close loved one. I cannot recommend Homemead enough.
