The Meadow care home in Muswell Hill provides residential and dementia care for 40 residents in purpose-built, en suite accommodation. The home is owned by MHA, a national charity helping to improve the lives of over 19,000 older people across Britain every day.

Personalised care plans are developed with residents and their relatives to enable the care team to provide personalised care and uphold the core values of dignity and respect.

A specially trained music therapist regularly visits The Meadow where they perform live music sessions in a group or one-to-one setting which helps to alleviate isolation and the symptoms of residents living with dementia.

My parents have both lived at The Meadow for nearly three years. They are cared for with professionalism and kindness. It is hugely important to my sister and me to know that our parents are well cared for, safe and happy in their declining years and The Meadows provides us with that reassurance every
time we visit.

The Meadow has proved to be the place we had hoped it to be for my brother after a diagnosis of late-onset Alzheimer’s. The admission process was great. I was impressed by the management and senior carers who showed us around, the thought and understanding behind their direction of the care programme
and by the respectful and helpful attitude of the care team. The deputy manager showed the utmost patience and sympathy in answering my brother’s questions, being prepared to wait as long as it took him to think out what he wanted to say.
He necessarily took a while to settle in, but is now happy, recalling names of staff and appreciating their attention to his needs and respect for his intelligence and resilience. The team’s handling of his medical needs makes me entirely confident leaving this to them. He says food is good but lacks variety. The efficient communication between the home and different care agencies and with me is impressive. Friends say how welcome staff have made them.

Reply from Sirisha Kodakandla, Home Manager at The Meadow

Thank you for your kind words. We are glad that The Meadow has met your expectations and that your brother is now happy and well cared for. We appreciate your feedback on the food variety and we'll work on improving it. Our team is dedicated to providing the best possible care and support for him. We value your trust in us and look forward to continuing to provide a welcoming environment for both residents and their loved ones. Thank you for being a part of our community.

I attended a recent garden party with friends of a resident who has been in The Meadow for about 7 years.
The staff went ‘all out’ to create a lovely atmosphere for everyone. All of them were involved in the cooking of a BBQ and the food was delicious and plentiful. There was live music and one resident’s
102 bday was celebrated.
Our friend is beautifully cared for by some really lovely staff. She can be a real curmudgeon but the staff are so kind and patient with her.
This home is highly recommended.

Reply from Sirisha Kodakandla, Home Manager at The Meadow

My aunt, who has mild-moderate dementia, has been at The Meadow for over a year now and I have been consistently impressed by the quality of care and the professionalism of the staff team. They manage to combine a business-like efficiency in the practical running of the place with kindness and real
humanity in the delivery of care. My aunt is happy there. It's clearly been a positive move for her and the initial transition was handled carefully and went smoothly.

Reply from Sirisha Kodakandla, Home Manager at The Meadow

My husband has been a resident at The Meadow for 14 months with advanced dementia. He settled well from the beginning and remains very content. The care and management staff are always kind, caring and supportive of him and myself. The facilities are good with a large, safe, enclosed garden. The home
is always sparkling clean and tidy. The food is good with tea and biscuits always available. I would recommend The Meadow for anyone looking for a residential dementia placement.

I visited my friend during an event/performance by a band. The atmosphere was positive and warm and the residents seemed to be thoroughly enjoying the excellent environment. They were enlivened and stimulated by the music and the excellent care staff took care of the residents throughout. It felt as
though it was a happy occasion for all. The musicians were positive and respectful of their audience throughout and literally struck exactly the right communicative tone.

Reply from Sirisha Kodakandla, Home Manager at The Meadow

Thank you for taking the time to write this lovely review. You might have visited when we were lucky enough to have three musicians from the Royal Albert Hall here for a live recital. It was a wonderful event. We will book this again for the Christmas period and depending on availability, have another little concert here and the same musicians. Feel free to call us at the beginning of December, as we will know by then and would be able to let you know and maybe you are able to visit again and enjoy the beautiful music together with your friend.

My long-time best friend is a resident but sadly I can only visit occasionally - from Scotland. I find, on my visits, that the staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful and seem to support my friend very nicely. She seems to be relaxed and comfortable and is also obviously well-fed and healthy. I was
glad to see that some activities have apparently been introduced and would be keen to see as much of that as possible as my friend is sociable and quite mentally able, so would benefit from as much of that as possible. Thank you.

Reply from Sirisha Kodakandla, Home Manager at The Meadow

Thank you for your kind words. We feel your friend did really well, as soon as she moved into our home a couple of years ago. It’s wonderful to see how many friends she has and how dedicated her family is too. The many visits she receives mean that she continues to be able to do all of the things she enjoys with people she loves. We are very grateful for all of your support. Your wonderful feedback will mean a lot to our team, who strive every day to create a home that people love to live in and work at. We are looking forward to seeing you soon, again. Please know that our door is always open for any questions, comments or suggestions you may have. In the way of activities, we are pleased to say that a local nursery is visiting regularly again. We also have a Chaplain who offers church services and pastoral support. We are fortunate, as we also have weekly music therapy – both group and 1-to-1 sessions and beauty treatments at least twice a week.

The process from viewing the home to having my great aunt assessed and moved in has been outstanding. She has been treated with respect, patience and compassion by all members of the staff. We feel totally confident that she is in safe and capable hands. All the staff we have met are wonderful, they
listen. They treat each resident as an individual. Communication has been excellent too, what could have been a very difficult transition has been made very smooth. Thank you.

Reply from Sirisha Kodakandla, Home Manager at The Meadow

Thank you for your kind and encouraging words. Your aunt is a lovely and very spirited lady and it has been wonderful to receive so many friends and family members as visitors. Your support during her settling-in period was amazing and ensured that everything went as well as it could. My mother moved to The Meadow care home just before Christmas and is happier now than she has been in years. She had been isolated and lonely but now feels part of things. The care is excellent, and the environment is safe and comfortable. They are recruiting an activities manager, so once that happens,
then they will be able to provide more activities.

It has been a real pleasure getting to know your mum, you, and your sister. Myself, my brother and sister are so grateful our mum lives at the Meadow. The care there is superb, compassionate, thorough and informed by great expertise, commitment and a warm, loving ethos with staff demonstrating such fondness and sensitivity towards our mum's needs. At the height of the Covid
pandemic, senior leaders and the wider team worked tirelessly to keep everyone safe while allowing as much family contact as possible, establishing excellent systems and communicating clearly with everyone. Now that we are through the pandemic, delightful activities (eg visits from the local reception class children, music therapy) are happening, which is wonderful. The entire staff team at the Meadow ensure it is a very special place and we are over the moon our dear mum is here.

Reply from Sirisha Kodakandla, Home Manager at The Meadow

We are very glad to have been able to make your mum feel loved and supported here. We appreciate how close you are as a family and that your preference might have been to live with your mum and care for her, if possible. It, therefore, means even more to get such positive feedback from you, as we know that only the best will do for your mum, and whilst we are not perfect, we certainly strive to give our best, every day. Your frequent visits mean that your mum has everything she needs to be happy, and we wanted to thank you for enabling us to look after your mum so well. Your kindness, respect, and trust in our team also give constructive feedback, knowing it will be received in the right spirit, resulting in even better care provision.

My stepmother has been at The Meadow for three years and has dementia. Throughout that time I have found the staff to be loving and caring to all the residents and my stepmother seems to be very content. The residents are clearly very well looked after, and are always clean and well turned out. The
premises are well maintained with good facilities. Visitors are welcomed and kept informed of any medical issues. I am so pleased we found The Meadow and were able to entrust my stepmother to their care.

Reply from Sirisha Kodakandla, Home Manager at The Meadow

Thank you for this warm-hearted and succinct review. Your stepmother is very lucky to have such a devoted and caring stepson in her life and your diligence and interest in her life and the care we provide here. Our success is of course also based on your support, your visits, phone calls and continuous availability. We would like to thank you for the kindness you have shown to all of us over the years.

I can't speak highly enough of The Meadow in Muswell Hill. They've cared for my mother so well that she was 100 in October and they even helped us celebrate that extraordinary event. The staff are magnificent in all they do.

During the few years that my godfather (uncle) has lived at the Meadow we have always been relaxed knowing that he is safe, well cared for and supported and happy. My uncle has dementia and minor health issues and staff have always informed us when there have been issues around his health and support
needs. Times were especially challenging for them during the worst of the covid pandemic but we were in regular contact with staff and my uncle which made all the difference. They took and still take extra precautions because some of our family members are very vulnerable. We have to comment on the kindness and sensitivity shown to our uncle and us throughout his stay. That coupled with the continuity of staff who have got to know us and who know my uncle well has made it a happy and well supported experience for us all. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Meadow.

Reply from Sirisha Kodakandla, Home Manager at The Meadow

Thank you for this lovely review. Your godfather (uncle) has been with us for a long time now and fortunately, we have always been able to support him with his changing needs, also thanks to you. Your many and continued visits and your imaginative and loving support through times of visitation restrictions, including music and videocassette, meant that your uncle always knew how loved he was. Being able to work with families, like we do with yours, means that we can create the very best of what support in a care home can offer, and that the depth of daily experiences, emotional and otherwise remains substantial, resulting in contentment and an inner feeling of homely safety for our residents. I feel we have been able to create this atmosphere together, from the beginning, and my team and I are very grateful for your kindness and reliable support, practically and in spirit. Please let us know whenever you feel that we could do something differently or better, our door is always open.

My aunt, for whom I have POA, has been at The Meadow for nearly 3 years and we are very happy with her care. They have supported her from being quite mentally able and socially active to a diagnosis of dementia which required an increase in support and a move to a different room. She had a few months
before Covid when there was much more external interaction, e.g. local school children came in regularly to do a cooking session. Hopefully, this will resume and senior managers have tried very hard to appoint to the activities coordinator role since Covid and are seeking alternative ways to provide activities for residents. The Covid period was managed well and all local health authority advice was adhered to which protected residents and the staff were excellent during a very difficult time. Staffing is stable and I'm impressed that this has been achieved since recruitment is difficult. Staff are very caring and the atmosphere is always calm.

Reply from Sirisha Kodakandla, Home Manager at The Meadow

Thank you for this very positive review of our Home. I will pass your kind compliments on to the team. Hopefully, we will have an Activities Co-ordinator soon. We appreciate your positive feedback on us stepping into the role and doing the best we can. Your aunt did indeed join our Home just before the pandemic started and we are glad to say that we are all still here and appear to have overcome this challenge together. Hopefully, the future will be brighter than some of the difficult times over the last two years, or so. The toddlers from a local nursery are visiting again; we have registered for pet therapy and are waiting to hear back if they have a volunteer available. Thank you for your trust in our team and your always reliable feedback and support of both your aunt, and our team.

My friend has been living at The Meadow for almost two months having moved from another placement. I was worried about the transition, but the team and fellow residents at The Meadow have been incredibly welcoming. It is obvious there is a real sense of community here. My friend is a vegetarian and
can be quite particular with food, but the staff have been very accommodating around her preferences. I like that there are a consistent group of carers and core staff that get to know residents well, rather than a revolving door of agency workers. Administratively, the management have been brilliant - very proactive, organised and responsive. The garden and facilities are well maintained. I would like to see a more regular schedule of activities once they get a new coordinator in place, but the care staff are doing their best to keep residents engaged – my friend enjoys the exercise classes and music sessions. I highly recommend The Meadow if you are seeking a new home for a loved one.

Reply from Sirisha Kodakandla, Home Manager at The Meadow

Thank you for your wonderful feedback. The team will be delighted to see that their consistent and kind care for our residents has made a positive difference to your friend's and your life. Your friend is extremely fortunate to have you in her life, as you are truly committed to her well-being, always going above and beyond, so that she has everything she needs and that everything is taken care of. We hope to recruit a new Activities Coordinator soon, with any luck, the right candidate will apply in the very near future. Please know that we really appreciate your positive comments and that we continue to strive for an ethos of excellency - we are, therefore, also grateful for constructive feedback on where we could do better. My wife has Alzheimer's and I sought professional advice when her condition had declined to the point that I could no longer care for her at home, even with assistance from carers. I approached The Meadow on the advice of my doctors and assured myself this was the most appropriate facility with special
provisions and training suited to Alzheimer's sufferers near to where we lived so I could easily visit often. I was impressed when a senior manager visited us to reassure my wife and me and was even able in one visit to gain her consent to trim her fingernails, something my wife had allowed no one to do for two years. With advanced Alzheimer's, she needs a great deal of understanding and care; and there is not the slightest doubt she receives that from skilled and professional staff with medical attention whenever called for. Her likes and dislikes are sought and respected and she enjoys special attention to her interests and predilections. She is happy in her new social setting.

Reply from Sirisha Kodakandla, Home Manager at The Meadow

Thank you for your kind words and praise for The Meadow. We understand the scale of the decision this was and that you looked after your wife for many years, in the most loving way possible. We feel much obliged to care for your wife; she is a wonderful and very kind lady who knows that she is very loved. We will continue to support you and your wife and want to encourage you to always share your thoughts with us, and to ask any questions which you may have, or indeed suggestions. We also wanted to thank you for the wonderful way you supported your wife and the team with the move and made it much easier for your wife to settle into her new home.

Since mum moved to the Meadows we have been so impressed with the care and kindness the staff show her on a daily basis and she is now settling into life there. The facilities are excellent and Mum loves the food thanks to the wonderful chef and catering team. There are activities and chaplain visits
weekly and we are always welcome to visit Mum or take her out locally. We have found the communication with the Manager and administration team to be prompt and highly professional. I would highly recommend this beautiful home and caring staff to anyone considering a residential setting.

My mother spent the last two and a half years at The Meadow. She was the type of person who never wanted to go into a home and was a fussy eater, she had been a chef. To my surprise, she became extremely happy, thereafter, a very short while and continued to be so until she recently died, at 98. I cannot
praise the home too much. From the excellent management to all the caring staff. It relieved me of my worries because The Meadow provides such excellent care. I cannot thank all the staff enough.

Reply from Sirisha Kodakandla, Home Manager at The Meadow

Thank you for your kind words, which will mean a lot to my team. Your Mother was indeed a very spirited lady and it was a pleasure meeting her and being able to support her in later life, as we did. Your Mother knew how loved she was and we feel very privileged to have been able to support you and your family, until the very end. We would like to thank you for your unwavering support of our team here and your kindness and words of encouragement over the last two and half years. We would like to wish you and your family all the best for your future. It was a pleasure meeting you all.

This is a beautifully situated home, close to nearby shops and amenities, and yet, nestled within its own peaceful oasis, surrounded by expansive lawns, trees and many birds. In addition, the residents have direct access to a large, beautifully maintained and safely enclosed garden and also a spacious
patio.
It has surprised me how quickly the staff got to know my father after moving in; a testament to treating him very much as an individual.
The Meadow has taken a careful but logical approach to the pandemic, a sensible balance that has proven very successful. I am looking forward to seeing the activities schedule start up again, once visits are reinstated.
The staff seem very cheery, gentle and patient. The management, in particular, is very organised and capable.
We feel blessed to have found this little pocket of calm for my father.

Reply from Sirisha Kodakandla, Home Manager at The Meadow

Thank you for this wonderful review. I will pass your compliments onto my team; everyone will be very happy.
The last year has been testing for all of us and new admissions especially - all families had to put an enormous amount of trust in us, as visitations are still so restricted. However, as you say, we are all doing what we can under the circumstances, trying to make the most of each day. Hopefully, things will be more normal and our doors fully open again when summer is here.
We would like to thank you for your kindness, support and understanding approach towards our team. Please know that you can always approach us with any questions or comments you may have.

My mother is a resident of The Meadows.
She has lived here for four and a half years.
During this very difficult year, the staff and management have done a wonderful job of keeping her safe, and she has emerged at 101-years-old, no worse for wear.
Thank you for all your kindness during this very
stressful time.

Thank you for this lovely review. I will pass your comments onto my team – they will be very pleased.

Your mum is looking forward to her 102nd birthday this year, which is so amazing – she continues to do really well, and we have come through this last year together, with a better understanding of how important our mutual understanding and support for one another is, and the knowledge that we have protected everyone to the best of our ability. We would like to thank you for your kindness towards our team, your encouragement and your good sense of humour, at times, when it was really needed. We are looking forward to better days, with fewer restrictions, to make the most of the summer in our beautiful grounds.
