The Oaks Residential Care Home is a charming property that has benefited from renovation, where care teams make the most of spacious interiors to offer clients a friendly service.

Life at the Home

The Oaks is run as a small family concern with the owners closely involved with the day to day running of the home. The objective of the home is to offer each resident individual care and attention which preserves their privacy and dignity right up to the end of their days.

A great deal of flexibility is offered to residents to make their own choice in all aspects of their day. Every encouragement will be given to the pursuance of their hobbies, interests and religious worship.

Accommodation

The house provides pleasant bedrooms comprising of all single rooms. All bedrooms contain fitted carpets, central heating and washing facilities; most include en suite facilities. In case of an emergency, a fully integrated nurse call system has been installed in every bedroom and bathroom. There are two spacious and comfortable lounges with colour televisions in each where residents socialise and an attractive dining room, and a quiet area. They also have a patio area overlooking the gardens.

There is a lift, which will accommodate a wheelchair. The garden is beautifully landscaped, containing two large patio areas with wheelchair-friendly access, and beautifully kept raised flowers beds and ample benches for sitting and admiring the view. Well balanced and varied meals made with fresh ingredients are served with a choice of menu and mealtimes. They also cater for residents who require special diets.

Activities

The Oaks looks to provide a varied array of either group or 1-to-1 activities for the residents to encourage communication and to reduce the risk of social isolation within the home. They have also found the activities beneficial to help stimulate the brain function of Dementia clients.

When I visit my mother, she always seems very happy and well cared for.
Because of Covid, I am still very nervous about going into a residential home
but I have been very impressed with the way the staff have coped during these
difficult times. I can honestly say that I am so grateful to them all
for looking after my mum.

From the moment we stepped into the home to view it for our relative it felt like home. The staff and environment were welcoming, the residents appeared happy and well cared for. The rooms were clean spacious and calming. The garden area is tranquil and relaxing. We left with the feeling “this is the
right home”. The following week we moved our relative to the Oaks. We couldn’t be happier, the staff listen and adapt to what the resident requires. Our relative has settled, is happy and above all well cared for. Thank you to all the staff at the Oaks, a weight has been lifted off our minds.

The home has kept my mother safe, well and as happy as these challenging times have permitted. The home is managed well, and the staff caring. Residents relations can raise concerns at any time, knowing they will receive a prompt answer, and requests will be acted on where possible.

My mother, who is s97-years-old, had to be moved from her care home in November 2020 as it closed down. In a very difficult situation because of Covid. The Oaks team isolated Mum in her room for two weeks. She was constantly checked to make sure she was ok. Mum is now very happy and settled, and The
Oaks team have catered for her every need. She is very content, and so are we. The best move we could have made.

Staff are always accomodating, friendly, understanding and helpful. This is a small (26 room) home with an outstanding level of management and care. Covid 'lockdown' safety measures were put in place before the Government instructed such action, which in my mind is a clear indication of the level of responsibility afforded to the residents here. The visitation restrictions
imposed upon families and friends are strictly enforced but caringly explained to the residents, families and friends and to my knowledge no objections or complaints have been made. A procedure to send messages and video call or chat over the internet, etc. were put in place from the outset. Regular newsletters are sent out keeping families and friends up to date with life in the home and individually, phone calls enquiring about the wellbeing, etc. of a loved one are always happily received and responded to in a welcoming fashion.

The manager and all the staff are wonderful; I cannot praise them highly enough. The care, love and attention they give my mum are second to none. I'm absolutely confident in their ability to look after her and meet her needs. They are always welcoming when I visit; it's like going into someone's home.
I used to visit care homes in a professional capacity, and The Oaks is one of the best I've ever seen.

The Oaks provide excellent care in a professional but very friendly/caring way. They treated the resident respectfully and like to laugh, joke, play game and dance with them. My father-in-law is happy and relaxed, and that's the most important part.

1) All staff supported my mother until the end of her life - all assessments (OT, physio, speech and language) arranged to help her and to plan. All equipment arranged e.g. Air bed for pressure sores prevention.
2) Mother treated with kindness and respect. The Oaks has excellent working relationships
with local GP and hospice.
3) Mother lived at The Oaks for four years - great activities (quizzes/art/exercise) kind and fun staff. Pleasant garden. Convenient location for shops/public transport.
4) Responsive and welcoming staff.
5) Strong and kind management team, who are willing to be creative and adaptive to changing needs.
6) Such a big thank you to all at The Oaks for looking after Mum and me and our friends.

Mum enjoyed her time at The Oaks. She found the staff friendly and also made friends with some of the other residents. She thought the food was very good and there was always tea and coffee and cold drinks available. She enjoyed the activities provided by The Oaks and will be happy to go back when we
are going on holiday.

With all the recent bad publicity with care homes, I was reluctant to place my father-in-law in the Oaks. My fears were unfounded with The Oaks. The care, kindness, attention and love he received was first class. He was in The Oaks for the last six months of his life and was treated with the greatest
respect and dignity.

I found the staff and manager to be so caring and helpful. The food looks really good and I think The Oaks has a really homely feel.
The place needs a bit of updating and the decor is antiquated but I was more interested in the care.
I will definitely use The Oaks again and hope to use it in December
and I have recommended it to a friend for her mum.

My uncle is cared for very well. By his own choice he stays in his room, but is frequently checked on by the staff, he cannot communicate very well as he is deaf, but the staff try to communicate with him by writing and pictures. Overall, the home is clean and has never smelled of urine etc, which is
something I have experienced in other care homes. Overall, this family are pleased with this level of care.

My mother moved into the residential part of The Oaks in January 2017 after not being fully able to cope living on her own due to poor health. My mother is now over 102 years old.
The manageress, who is very approachable, moved very quickly when contacted by my wife and offered suitable accommodation
at a reasonable price.
Under her guidance, my mother's health has improved tremendously. She is regularly seen by the doctor and chiropodist etc...
She has excellently prepared regular meals, her personal hygiene is excellent and clothes are washed daily, she is always well presented and there is a carer available to see to her needs day or night.
I am happy to know that my mother is being well looked after and in a friendly environment.

My mother was very well looked after during her recent stay here. Her room was homely, the food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. There was a range of activities during her stay and a visiting hairdresser who made my mum look like herself again so she was very happy.
