Shaftesbury Court has a wonderful environment for its residents to enjoy and a team who are devoted to enriching their residents’ lives.

Providing residential care, the team also offer respite care breaks, which can be booked in advance. These are perfect for carers looking after loved ones at home, who need a short break themselves, with the peace of mind of knowing their relative is in safe hands and being well cared for.

The apartment-style bedrooms at Shaftesbury Court are stunning – spacious and beautifully decorated, they have ensuite wet rooms, kitchenettes, lounges and even a small dining area. They are a lovely space to enjoy spending time alone with family and friends, who are welcome at any time. There are also double suites for couples and many of the bedrooms overlook the gardens.

There are welcoming lounges, where residents enjoy so many activities, from baking, arts and crafts and spending time with visiting school children, to gentle exercise sessions and pet therapy. The home also has a hair salon for pamper sessions and regular appointments with the mobile hairdresser.

Residents enjoy delicious home-cooked meals every day, prepared by the home’s chef. From roast dinners with all the trimmings, to fish and chip Fridays and lighter bites like freshly-made soups and pies. And there is home-baking every day for afternoon tea.

The enormous gardens are a real highlight, with vast lawns, a water feature, harbour-style seating, wheelchair friendly pathways and raised planters, for residents who enjoy gardening. They are a lovely place to relax in the summer and enjoy garden parties and barbecues.

But it’s the team, many of whom have worked at Shaftesbury Court for years, who make this home feel really special, creating a really warm, family feel.

It is such a relief to have Mum in a safe environment with 24-hour care. Her apartment is ideal, and the good is excellent with a good choice each day. The staff are really friendly and caring. A big thank you to you all.

The staff are generally very welcoming and have strictly adhered to the Covid regulations. Generally speaking, the facility deals sympathetically with problems that arise and are available to relatives.

My father moved into Shaftesbury Court in April. He settled straight away. All of the staff were very welcoming. The staff couldn't do any more to make sure dad is safe and cared for. They provide excellent care. My dad reports how clean it is and says the food is lovely. He compares Shaftesbury Court
to a "five-star hotel". We couldn't ask for more.

My stay at Shaftesbury can only at this stage be excellent. The warmth and welcome when I arrived were quite unfailingly satisfactory.
My main concern would be the diverse menu as we now live in a diverse society so my marks fo food, I can only give food.

Since my dad's arrival, he has been much happier, and although he is currently only a temporary resident, he is keen to remain on a permanent basis. He has not complained at all, which is very unusual! You all do a fantastic job; thank you.

Before the lockdown, everything was great for my mum. We spent our first Xmas together, and then no more due to Covid restrictions. The home is well-run.

I'm very happy with the way my mum is looked after. Mum always appears clean and tidy, her room the same. The activities are good. In general, I'm happy with the way my mum is looked after.

An elderly relative was a resident in this care home. She was taken into hospital where on the fourth day, she passed away. I notified the care home on the same day. The care home fees were up to date. I now received an invoice from the care home for a fee of 4 days, £628.57, dated from AFTER her death.
I queried it and the reply was “a contractual 3 days charged after death”. I was shocked to hear that. It seems a very heartless and cold way to charge extra after someone dies. On the contract, it says “fees will continue to be charged at the daily rate until the room has been cleared of all personal belongings”. But I would challenge anyone who would prioritise clearing personal belongings from the care home soon after a close relative’s death. And I was never told to clear the room ASAP or charges would be incurred. In these days of lockdown, how could the room be cleared after a death? I have no problem with the staff who were friendly/helpful. I am disgusted with the contract.

My mother is extremely pleased with the care she receives. She doesn't have a bad word to say about Shaftesbury Court and all the carers who work there. They take good care of her and it's a great relief to me that I know she is well looked after.

My mother is very well looked after. I visit at least twice per week to see all is well. Most of the staff are caring and attentive to my mother's needs. There has been a change of management recently which has caused a few issues with the staff. The residents don't seem to have been affected.

Wonderful staff . A comfortable caring place to live. My father was a resident from Jan 2016 until Nov 2017 and not once was there a concern. I am confident he was happy and very well cared for. Nicely decorated and furnished rooms where you can add your own personal homely touches. Lovely meals and
drinks provided. A nice safely enclosed garden is available. My dad had his favourite staff and I'd like to thank them and all the ladies for the care and warmth they showed my dad. I recommend this home and it's wonderful staff.

There are nice equipped flats (bedroom, living room, kitchen, walk-in-shower, walk-in-closet and a balcony. The rooms are renovated. There is a nice garden in the middle of the care home.
On one side you have care if you want, on the other side you can be on your own.
Laundry is done, there are
coffee, tea, sugar, fresh milk and biscuits in your kitchen. Meal is delicious, my aunt mentioned.

Although it is a care home and never can be compared with the own home, it has a real nice appearance. Could not find a better place for my aunt. I am pleased to know that she is in a safe place. Thanks to the manager and all the staff for the good care, also helping me with entry and all things around. Regards

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.672)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.672) out of 10 for Shaftesbury Court Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.872 for Shaftesbury Court Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (84 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 94 Ratings = 4.872

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Shaftesbury Court Residential Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
